If you can spare a few hundred quid the SGS ones are really good for the money, if it’s spraying you are doing you probably want the 14cfm one but I have the 9.6CFM and it’s fine fit tools and applying rustproofing. The tools are all really cheap once you get the initial investment of the compressor.

You might be surprised, I'm not sure if I'm in a minority here but, for some reason, I definitely still have all the paperwork for cars which I know were scrapped 10-15 years ago. It's all stuff that the previous owners have gone to the trouble of keeping, it's part of my "motoring history" (as sad as that may sound when I'm talking about wheel cylinders being replaced for the previous owner of my Daewoo Tacuma in 2007...) - it just feels wrong to throw it all away!? Just in case I ever want to look back on it... 😅

Good news. The new exhaust system arrived today and it looks a perfect match. Win.

I have purchased a 1 litre tin of Rust-Oleum paint, matched to the blue paintwork of the Sierra. I must have misheard the man in the shop on Saturday, as I paid £15 for the tin, not £50 as previously suggested.

I have also acquired an engine oil filter.

More parts to come later this week.

More parts arrived today - cam belt, fan belt and rocker cover gasket.

I've gone for decent brands as I only want to do the jobs once.

Replacement window winders fitted. Thank you again @lisbon_road

At some point, the Sierra was fitted with aftermarket front fog lights. The lights have been removed but redundant wiring remained.

All removed for that factory fresh look.

I am no expert on ignition systems. 

What is going on here? Are these cables ok?

Possibly some sort of suppressor fitted to try and deal with radio interference.

Would it be worthwhile changing the spray bar that lubricates the cam while the cam cover is off. Because with sketchy servicing and age it's not unknown for them to get blocked and ruin the cam etc.

Is that not for retarding the timing for different types of fuel? Ford ESC II rings a bell.

I think it was to save touching the distributor.

I think that's right. Struggling to remember but had something similar on my D reg MK1 2.0 Pinto Sierra.

You guys could be right, there’s a sticker on the inside of the fuel filler flap that states that the engine has been adjusted to run on unleaded fuel.

I remember shredding all the masses of history my silver laguna had after sending it to scrap. Was quite sad.

That's what Ford called the base model, despite it being a hatchback!  They did the same with early Mark 3 Escorts.

What's the difference between "1.6" and "1.6 economy"? 

Ford really knew how to make a grim bASe model. The 1.6 base estate was on my step dad's company car choices but the Astra 1.6L estate was better in almost every respect (he had five).

1.6 economy had a "computer controlled ignition system" and a high geared 5 speed transmission. 

The price was the same as a regular 1.6 5-speed, at £157 more than a 1.6 4-speed.
