Currently laid in bed with Only Fools on and am wide awake. Im a bit nocturnal as it is, the added excitement of buying a 212k mile vehicle that is a 50 min car journey followed by 4 hours on a train isn’t helping.

It's the Welsh factor - nearer you get to here, colder it gets. Fact.

This Aberystwyth train I’m on to Shrewsbury is very nice. Feels like some sort of sports train.

Very smooth, comfier seats, seems to be going fast.

If it was a sports train, would it not have bigger wheels, lower profile tyres and dropped suspension leading to a harsher ride?

Home! Knackered now.

Drives very nice for a 212k mile van.

It’s painfully slow, like really slow. 0-60 in 3 to 5 working days.

He’s given me an ECU with a stage 1 remap on it so I’m going to fit that when I get a chance, other than that I’m well chuffed with it.

Just popped to Halfords for a battery as the chap was very honest in saying it likely wants one as it’s not been used much this summer.

Really happy with it! Well worth the long day.

Is it the 2.5 meat grinder or a normal pd?

It’s a PD, all 84 horses so coming from the 335D I felt like getting out and pushing it at times 😂

They apparently map well and the ECU he bought but never fitted has a “Livewire remaps” stage 1 and an EGR delete, their maps quote around 140bhp which is a much more useable power. Looks like the ECU is under the battery - I’m going to change the battery tomorrow so may as well chuck the ECU on and see if it’s any good.

All of mine were 5 pots. Much as I liked em, I'd reckon the pd is a much safer bet. My crafter flat bed ate its cam in impressive fashion.

I really like this. Well bought!

Stuck the mapped ECU on it today whilst I was swapping the battery over, also blanked the EGR as the new ECU has it disabled.

Night and day difference. Doesn’t feel mapped, just feels normal now rather than scary slow. They claim 140bhp so if it’s anywhere near that I’m more than happy.

Looks good that. Has it had all the Door Jams painted as well?

Are they the standard 16inch wheels with all terrains on? Standard ride height as well?

All of the shuts and insides of the doors are Matt black, along with the roof. Actually looks really good, better than being green IMO

They are 16” steels but new, they’re not VW, running 235/70/16 GeoLandars

Its on coilovers so it’s sitting a bit lower than standard

I am sure one of the contributers to Car Mechanics magazine bought a 2.5 that had issues around idling which pointed to possible cam issues.
