Despite doing everything I was told my phone still doesn’t work in Ireland.

Are you with EE, out of interest?

I had similar issues whenever travelling down to ROI, and despite spending hours on the line with customer services assuring me it would definitely work next time I was in Dublin or Galway, they never ever managed to sort it out.

I ended up switching networks in the end. No bother after that.

Sorry, appreciate that's absolutely no help to you right now!

Nah Vodafone, this happens literally every time I leave the country, so I’ve just gotten used to it.

It’s how I found out that there are no working payphones in Barcelona

Odd, my company phone is with Vodaphone and  always works fine in ROI.

Yeah it’s weird, like everything shows up as connected to signal and data but it won’t connect to the internet, make calls or texts... Even though I activated all the roaming stuff on my account

I have to admit to being extremely curious as to what is so interesting to bring you all the way to Clonmel?

Good news, message from the seller last night, he’s already got the car out of storage, so no headache there then?

Won’t post a screenshot of the satellite image of the guys property for privacy’s sake, but let’s just say it looks like heaven (in that there seem to be about 30-something cars dotted all over it)

In bathroom-related news:

also no hand soap, so my toothpaste has assumed a dual purpose

Careful where you put the Euthymol - it stings and it does not cure piles

My missus is from Clonmel. There's nothing so interesting that it would bring me all the way back there.

Excellent news!

Expectations are high for this, it is a proper collection thread covering three countries and a ferry journey. Something parked up in 1986 should be interesting especially as it is unlikely it was new when parked up. I am hoping for an estate from the 1970’s, a Cortina or Granada is probably too much to hope for but any estate is interesting. Driving a car home after it has been parked for  37 years sounds very optimistic. I am looking forward to updates. Great thread so far, good luck!

People from Tipp love it when people do this, in my experience 😁

I keep refreshing this page hoping that the OP will mysteriously find some WiFi (McDonalds is always a good shout).

It's like the world's slowest car crash 🤣
And then he's going to pull an absolute stunner out of a hat. Like a really rare Maxi 1500 or something (We had one of those in the 1970s, and they were as rare as rocking horse shit - never seen another in my life)

And we’re off

first hiccup, can’t find my Loose Ends tape

There’s something like 40 of em in the car and over time they all end up in the wrong boxes, which pisses me off to no end.

Do you moonlight as a Port Said cab driver? Not seen unique* interior decor like that since I visited Egypt.

I'm on train, looking at two and a half more hours to go. This thread keeps me alive!

I'm absolutely riveted to this thread.

1979 Morris Marina 1.3 estate, 1 owner, 33000 miles, Ziebarted from new m9. In the best BL colour, 'Autumnal Shart'

I bet in two weeks time that thing will bimble along quite decently. I thought that shed was a corner of heaven!

I wish, I do actually have family in Egypt so I’ve been in quite a few taxis that look like this. Maybe subconscious inspiration?

What an amazing shed full of stuff he has.

Yeah I always wondered where they all disappeared off the road to, I guess now we have our answer

Actual Port Said taxi cab. 🤣 Didn't ride in a poojoe in Port Said but did take a mildly terrifying cab ride in a 504 saloon from Ismailia to Cairo to see the Pyramids at Giza.

Epic!  And bonus shite points for poverty spec 😁

Ooooft.

Wow.

YES!

That's an absolute winnermobile, right there.

Not many 504 estates around these days... fingers crossed indeed, that the logistics all pull together and this arrives safely over with you. Delivery included! Awesome.

All this reminds me, I really should arrange a visit to MrsDC's uncle in Leitrim and see if he fancies thinning out his barn these days...

They call them ‘Flying Coffins’ in Egypt for exactly this reason - they look like a hearse, and they fill em up with people and bomb down the motorway between cities at night (and inevitably crash)

I’ve wanted one since i was like 6 years old - what a weirdo I am

Told the lady at customs what i was going to buy and she just looked blankly at me like “what’s that?”
