i was sat at the laptop this morning when the missus asked me if i had any jump leads as a neighbour was trying to get a jumpstart.. so after digging out the leads and getting his car started he informs me that it was the 1st time its had trouble startingand seeing as he had bought a new car he was just about to drive it to the scrappy to be weighed in  my brain hit "AUTOSHITE ALERT" :D i told him about the quest of autoshite and that we wanted to save cars like his from being scrapped. so i said rather than scrap it i will buy it off him and save him the journey :) looking around the car there are a few dings and dents and apart from a bit of bubbling on the plate above the front bumper, its rust free.. so he agreed but the real surprise was that it has tax until august and the mot runs until september  comes with a mountain of paperwork of stuff thats been done to the car... has service stamps up until 2002... i thought yay . but it got even better when he said that there was a sony 10cd changer in the boot  ... so for a oner i snapped it up here are a few pics below

Is it a keeper or a seller-onner?I only ask since I've been looking out for Mk3 GTIs for a while, quite fancy one as a daily cruiser :) Battle scars apart it looks quite nice that!

That doesn't look bad for a ton, Just get a S/H tailgate from the scrappy, Maybe a S/H front wing also (they are only bolt on), An afternoon with an aerosol on the front panel and a good polish and you'll have a fair profit there. What's the mileage like?.

Nice work!Is it just me or are the wipers the wrong way around? See quite a few motors like that. Mk1 Mondeos and Bertilingos look VERY wrong when that happens, but clearly the chap who fitted 'em didn't notice!

Well done.Do you live next door to Stevie Wonder or Ray Charles?

^^^ :D he did let his wife use it as her runaround.. and as we all know women + parking = ouch! i joke, i joke went out and tried to start her... boom! started on the button.. all lights work except front p/s indicator... notice it has water in it..(trigger) mileage is just over 121ki think im gonna do the bits n bobs it needs doing and keep it... it's either that or keep trying to squeeze myself into the ford ka :D

Good result! Especially at the price. As said above, a days work would have that as a decent enough daily.

It looks pretty miserable, but I can't believe people would scrap a serviceabl, road legal if battered car, even if it is a Mk3 Golf.

Nice save! whack some stickers all over the rear windows, checkerboard the roof, strip the bonnet paint, cut the springs for some OMG SLAMMAGZZ!!11! then punt it on for a grand.

That needs precisely fuck all doing to it.Except check the tyre pressures, fill the washer bottle, tank it up, select your 10 favourite CDs, and piss off into the sunset!!

GR16 save! Hard to believe someone would scrap that. Good job well done.

Nice to see that something as rough as that survived the Scrappagecaust. Here's hoping that it doesn't get into the hands of a eurotwat if you sell it on.If she's a keeper, what are yer plans?

I hate mk3 Golfs. And Mk4s. We always get them coming in for wheel alignment and they're always slammed and rusty as hell underneath. Scrap the muthas I say.

Superb move there 8) .I've owned a mk2 and a mk3 golf and driven more mk4s than I remember and my favourite of the lot is the mk3, they just feel so much nicer and dare I say more solid than the mk4 and the 2.0 8v whilst won't get anyone moist it was a reliable lump and economical so much so that VW replaced it with another design for the Mk4 golf but found the 2E was better so replaced it with the old 2E again. Best gearchange EVA!That front panel by the way is a two minute job to remove and cheap to buy from VW, I replaced one on mine once as it was dented.

Jobs a good un! Bolt thoses buggers on and a quick clean and you'll have a decent motor then.

they're always slammed and rusty as hell underneath.

Just like a Golf !
had her up on ramps today.... underneath is RUST FREE!!!!

Sh*t, I'd happily roll in that. Ultimate virtually free not-giving-a-monkeys-motoring in what is ultimately quite a sensible motor (unless you are Brammy - GTI OMG GR1 for insurance premiums)

I was of the impression that Mk3 Golfs tended to stay rust-free on the underneath, just the body panels were a bit fond of the tinworm.Milford - my near neighbour uses a Bedford Rascal for that very same purpose

Tailgates on post '95 ones are Galvanised, why the hell they didn't dip the whole shell until MK4 came out is anyone's guess.

The only new, modernish cars I ever bought were a pair of MK3s, 1st one a K plate 1.4 CL, had done 155000 as bought and never gave a moment's trouble, the next was a 30000 mile P plate 2.0 CL Variant which looked decent enough, if horribly unreliable, apart from the bodywork from the middle of each back arch rearwards, the bits added by Karmann to create the Variant from a 5 door hatch shell in other words. In those areas, it was full of holes, had large slabs of lead in places where Karmann had clearly set their apprentice on doing the job that day and he'd cut too much off so had to join it all together somehow.....

The only completely split-new car I ever bought was a Polski-Fiat 125P so it doesn't count. Wish I still had that.....
