Trains are nice too if a little pricey.

I've been on four of those things today.  Therefore I disagree!

@Weird Car I've had the bonnet cable thing too, on my 1980 Buick Century.  I got in by fiddling with screwdrivers through the grille, and hooked up a fresh cable from my scrap spares storage; unfortunately it was from a completely different design of car and was significantly shorter than the Buick's cable, so I ended up having to mount the release handle in the left-front wheelwell!  Good Luck with yours.

Just to check, some of the older Jag autoboxes needed to have the level checked with the engine running and I think one even needed to be in drive.  Have you checked if there is anything specific with you model to ceck the fluid level?

Also I recall some of the Jags had a cable kickdown which might have gone out of adjustment, if its not set right it can wreck the box very quickly so if yours is one with a cable make sure its all set right.

I've dabbled a bit with autoboxes and a sudden lack of changing sounds like either the box is stuck trying to kickdown or something is stuck in the valve block.

makes me just want to get a bus pass

With your job? 🤣

It's a BW 35 or 65? Not the most complex, if the warranty sucks there are people who know them.

Worth noting that a few of the BW boxes back around then need type F fluid, NOT normal Dex 2/3 etc.  Know that's caused a few Saab owners headaches as the BW 35/37 box used in the classic 900s falls into that category.

Without knowing exactly which box it is though it's hard to say.

Jags from this era are lovely, but god they've always seemed to be perpetually needy buggers judging from the experiences of a few folks I know who have owned them.

I’m probably gonna just cut my losses on it if anyone wants to make an offer? I can’t really be bothered anymore, Mazda is still here after a deal fell through so same applies to that

don’t want the headache anymore

You really should check for vacuum or kick down linkage problems before getting rid of it. I once bought a Granada 2,3 coupé for scrap money with a ’broken’ auto that didn’t want to change up to second and third. It did in fact, but not below 35 and 60 mph respectively, and it was all down to a vacuum hose split.

I’ll just keep on using the Rover for the time being, I really like it and as long as I have a few days for my back and ankles to recover it handles the trip absolutely fine and only costs £70 ish in fuel

I swore down that after my first 740 I'd never own another Volvo, that fucking thing was cursed.

Then I bought the Council Estate 740 as a stop gap... it is still here nearly fourteen years later. The current XC90 daily I think is my 23rd Volvo.

Plus BMW never made a music album so they're quite clearly dogs eggs etc.

M52 or M54 engine?

I found the 2.2l M54 engine in my Z4 to be far better than it had any right to be. 35+ mpg easily.

To set expectations...it's an old BMW 🙃

However there is tonnes of DIY info out there on them and I haven't found them that hard to fix. Especially the small engined examples that are designed to fit much bigger lumps.

I don't like BMWs however I've had 4 and might be on my fifth soon. So I might be turning into a bit of a fanboi on them.

Not sure on the codes as BMs are still new to me but it’s a 2.2 6 cylinder 😅

That'll be the M54 iirc. Same lump as in my old Z4 E85.

Never say never 😀

Also to set expectations… I used to have an E39 2,2 as well. Precisely once in two years of ownership did the obc show below 10 l/100 km (that should be about 28 imperial buckets per horse alen). I almost bought cake.

Daylight pictures of the new Bimmer

I’m not particularly excited like I normally would be after getting a new car, I feel like I’ve had all the fun sucked out of the hobby, I just hope this car doesn’t turn out to be a dog too

that's lovely, back when BMW could design a simple/handsome car.  Hope it does you a good turn after your recent run

That looks smart. Peak BMW for me, but then the nineties is pretty much peak everything for me!

bugger! missed the mx... oh well im sure there will be something else, looks like a decent bimmer, was expecting it to be plastered with tomy logos when the thread starts my first... tho lol...

dose this mean the daim bar is still misbehaving?

from what i know of bmws the newer ones seem quite problematic, wheras the older ones seem pretty solid, my old pub work mate had a 5 series of similar age with the 3.5v8 and slush box, smooth yes but wasnt as much of a kick as my 2.0 diesel mondog - tbf that was a fast mondog tho. 2.2 injectors definatley helped lol

Yeah unfortunately so, it’s currently on the for sale thread as I’ve had enough of classics for a minute, I’ve got too much on my mind surrounding other personal things

I’m hoping this falls into the older category
