bunglebus Posted June 18, 2023 Author Posted June 18, 2023 This one's for my partner's neice who's just passed her test. I have a fairly short snagging list but it's MoT'd until March, has electric widows and central locking plus rear pop-outs - and cost £500. I think the stickers put other people off as that's about half what they're going for currently - and it includes the plate that the guy paid £300 for Maybe @LightBulbFuncan shed some light on the previous registration? We did a size comparison with the FIL's Vitara he's just bought (on the drive in a couple of pics). Other than the spare wheel they're almost the same length LightBulbFun 1

Won't the stickers come off with encouragement from a heat gun? People are so lazy. Electric widows sounds alarming, a euphemism for those things that used to be advertised in the back of gentlemen's literature. 🤣

bunglebus Posted June 18, 2023 Author Posted June 18, 2023 It was a slightly odd purchasing experience. The Mrs saw it on FB as a "VW Luppo" for £800. Messaged the seller and was getting one-word answers then no response at all. She was also asking about a Corsa elsewhere and asked me to try the Luppo guy. I got the same, one word answers and just a postcode/number for the address. We were thinking maybe it's someone who doesn't speak English very well. Turned up to the address on the seafront outside a few restaurants and a harried looking white guy rushes up, thrusts the key, logbook and reg. transfer paperwork into my hand and says he'll leave us to it. OK then... Had a look over it, I can see it has some needs but is basically good and runs well. Mrs says it would be good to get it for £500. At this point matey reappears and says he's popping out for a bit. I hand him the keys etc back and say we'll have a think as there as some things to fix on it. He says £500 will buy it and walks off. No brainer then, we message him we'll take it, so after a futile search for a cashpoint that Google insists is nearby, we agree on bank transfer and are ushered through the kitchen of his restaurant into a tiny office where he prints us a receipt and lets us take the complete V5 as he'll forget to deal with it. Happily it's still showing as taxed etc so we scuttle off home without a further ado. Performance seems to be identical to the 1.0 because of higher gearing, so is less revvy on the motorway. Drives really nicely all things considered goosey, Datsuncog, BL Bloke and 4 others 7

I first noticed it spitting out previous registration marks around Christmas time, I figured they had started including it, because they still have to pay for all of every lookup even if they are not showing all of it LOL On 26/12/2022 at 21:56, LightBulbFun said: Little late Christmas gift for those who follow this thread! but I noticed just now that https://www.freecarcheck.co.uk/ now spits out previous registration marks if a vehicle has previous plate history but I will mention that since then, I have noticed all tools that use the Experian backend have become a a lot more flakey in spitting out exact car info/history for some reason On 25/09/2022 at 20:47, quicksilver said: I can't see any mention of TAO488S here. 1977 Leyland Cars Princess 2200 HL owned by former shiter Breadvan72 (but for sale) and piloted to today's BL Autumn Rally by the esteemed Mr @Skizzer. Also in attendance were known cars KKN840P and LRX19P, all attracting a lot of attention. for example if you take this Princess On 15/06/2023 at 23:08, LightBulbFun said: technically we do already have that one, but as SAK739S but its sadly been robbed of its plate (why?!) and given TAO488S as an age related plate (as I said on Page 20, when you have studied the British registration system as hard as I have even suffix age related plates stand out like a sore thumb to me LOL) and run it through car-check https://www.freecarcheck.co.uk/free/VEFPNDg4Uw-MTY4NzEzMzgyNg/ it will claim theres no plate history when there is, so thats something to keep in mind when using this tool to check for plate history, if you suspect a car of having previous plate history, id also run it through Carbaba which wont tell you what the plate is, but will tell you if there is a plate change (Carbaba however does also use Experian as its back end so can still give false negatives, but I have found it to be the most reliable) RoverFolkUs 1

bunglebus Posted June 19, 2023 Author Posted June 19, 2023 Did somebody say just eat? No. Came off easily enough, hot air gun actually made it worse as the glue melted and left residue Rear wiper arm was in the car - all works but needs a blade Name is staying Found the front for the cupholder, cleaned 20 years of gunk out and got it working Refitted the gear lever gaitor Sill lip was bent Straightened Got the boot open, still needs a lock barrel but locks from the central locking. Did discover a new problem though Took the seats out, removed various cigarette filters, lighters and coins - someone has been at the driver's one before and it's FUBAR Adjusted the clutch so that's got a nice bite now. bunglebus Posted June 20, 2023 Author Posted June 20, 2023 Rear brakes adjusted. NSR adjuster is right the way out, think the drums are a bit worn Adjusted loads of slack out of the handbrake cables, now it works and doesn't point to the ceiling. OSR wheel bearing is noisy but it can wait for now
bezzabsa Posted June 20, 2023 Posted June 20, 2023 Nice buy..... im sure one of those 'we buy plates' places will jump at that plate to flog off to some vegan place bunglebus 1
bunglebus Posted June 20, 2023 Author Posted June 20, 2023 Yep got it listed already. There are various similar ones for about £250-300 but they suggested £600 odd? That would be nice, free car! somewhatfoolish and Datsuncog 2
bunglebus Posted June 24, 2023 Author Posted June 24, 2023 Took a trip to Brightlingsea again today for some Lupo bits, so it's out with the old... ...and in with the new © Chrisfix One had a broken spring on the fore-aft adjuster but soon swapped off an old one.
