My Mini...

After getting a new battery and replacing a load of fuel pipes, various leads and ignition parts I had this running for the first time in 2 years yesterday (it's been off the road for four...) so I thought I'd celebrate by cluttering up this place a bit with some pictures.

I know Autoshite don't generally 'do' Minis, but I think mine's great and hopefully you won't mind too much...

I bought it in 2006 from the old lady who bought it new in 1981, and only used it a couple of times before leaving it in the garage (I didn't intend to leave it in there for so long though!). It's still only done 39,000 miles.

It's a 998cc Manual HL, so it's got luxuries like carpets, opening rear windows and those plastic wheel trim things, no radio though. According to the original invoice, the colour's called 'Mace'. I don't remember seeing another Mini (or anything else actually) in it though. I expect that any that existed would have been painted a 'nicer' colour now anyway.

It'll probably need a couple of little bits of welding for the MOT (front subframe mounts/front of the floorpan) and the bottom of the A panels is a bit crusty but overall it's pretty good. I'm well pleased to have it running again, hopefully it'll be MOTd by the summer. Then I'll just need to polish the faded paint, get a proper style front plate and drive it! I'd like a proper HL badge too - the old one disintegrated, the one on it now's a cut down HLS badge from a Triumph Acclaim.

:D

The original gearknob will be reinstated as soon as I can find it - this one's off my old Mayfair (my first car - written off in a fight with a Corsa)

I think it's great - love the seats and those plastic HL/Mayfair wheel trims are ace.

That's the perfect Mini, can't remember when I last saw one without the stupid plastic sticky out wheelarch rustraps.

That looks nice. Nice to see one thats not a Cooper or modded to look like one. Original, none Cooper Minis are WIN as far as I'm concerned.

She didn't do bad only using it a couple of times and managing to rack up 39K! I like them with those wheels, you never seem to see them with those now. And the black grille/bumpers! Lovely.I've got an Austin-Morris price list from 5/11/1980 and the Mini 1000 HL is £3122 after all taxes. To put it into perspective, £3094 would get you the absolute base-spec Metro (not even an "L") and £6482 for a Princess 2.2 HLS!

£3122 is the equivalent of nearly £9000 in todays money.

That is absolutely GR10!!! I'm not sure that we don't do Minis, more the case that we dont do drilled alloy window winder handles/sportspack arches/raging bigotry about BMW minis etc.If I saw a mini like yours at a car show i'd be all over it with my digicam!

Noice that is and plus eleventy on the lack of spaccy bits glued on.

Like Bo1 said, it's a cracker that, no cooper parts, no alloys, no bucket seats just plan old granny spec, perfect!

That's rather nice. Would be better with alloys, drilled winders, dropped steering column ;)
