austin maxi offered free but must be to a good home only!

during a major re-shuffle of my fleet and having far too many cars to lookafter ive decided to part with my maxi, it has MOT until the 19th of June 2010 an tax until the end of May(exempt anyway). i am still using the car daily but it does want a new clutch(slips under harsh acceleration or on an incline). the car was given to me a year ago by a man from my car club, i got it mot'd and have used it since, he gave me the car on condition that i look after it or give it back (it is of sentimental value and is not to be sold or scrapped) . ive spoken to him today an we have agreed the best thing for the car is if i offer it to someone on the same terms it was offered to me, so here it is. ideally will go to someone local and is free to be well used/driven/maintained and enjoyed for aslong as you want it and given back if ever you cant lookafter it anymore!

I'd be interested - reminds me of my messerschmitt, which was sold to me on the condition that I returned with the car when it was restored so the last owner could drive it again!I took it back almost three years after I had purchased it so he could have his drive.

Get on it RG! I'll even give you a hand with the clutch if you want, we can put a day in on it next time my Mrs goes off to her needlework club . Is it an engine out job on these? I will check tonight if necessary as i've got a haynes knocking around. I'm going to take the engine out of my 'Crab tonight to fix the clutch!

Sounds like your problem is the missus tbh If my wife got to have her Subaru as well as a 2cv Charleston then she'd let me have whatever I damn well wanted

Ooh. Has anyone claimed this yet? I'd love another Maxi. Not got room for it at the moment like but being taxed it could sit on the road outside for a week or two until I shift something to make a space. I'm a long way away but I haven't used my AA Relay membership this year so still have some "lives" left...

still available, was hoping for it to stay local (its a local car from new an the man i got it off had it 30 yrs an likes the idea of it staying nearby!) but the most important thing is it goes to someone who will do right by the car an help keep it on the road for another 40 years!

thanks guys for all the kind offers of a home but i would like to hang out for someone local for the time being, it drives ok, keeps plodding on just very slow gaining speed and getting up hills, i drove to stoke on trent in her a few weeks ago an was fine but think i annoyed a few people behind!lol

Cheers for that offer Mr B, would have been very useful if 'she' had let me have it.However, I may have to call upon your superior welding skills on the Escort when I start to clean them up. It all seems quite solid but you never know eh!

ive just scrapped two maxis they were very rotten tho and would have been only gd for parts....i did get some lights and the grille and other small bits if anyone needs owt

bet thats the only ones i avnt got,theres a coupla boxes tho of bits what was in the boot,i didnt actually take them off meself and i avnt had a proper look,saw rear lights tho....will have a look for u tomoro and let u know

Hey Billy, seeing as im visiting you and Joe this weekend I could give you a lift.Id love it myself but an Allegro is enough at the moment. I dare say it will need work to ensure it stays on the road. Besides, its not a convertible ;)Ive got a used but good friction plate for whoever gets this Hydragas suspended beauty. It would be advisable to do the crank seal too.
