Save Donnington

People;

If you're not aware, there's a campaign starting up to save the Castle Donnington circuit. The company who until recently owned the circuit wanted to host the Grand Prix this year, and started work to revamp the track - unfortunately they went into administration partway through the works, leaving the track with chunks missing and a building site in the centre. The track is now longer usable at all.

Yesterday there was a 'gathering' of people at the circuit, designed to show the current/future owners that there would be much interest in the circuit reopening and it would be a viable prospect. I toddled down to have a look - couldn't argue with free admission and a cloudless sky!

Here's some of my more interesting photos. I was ridiculed by my co-attendee for the day for ignoring such rubbish as a -10 Plate Porsche GT3 or something, and snapping away at MG Montegos and primered Sherpa Coupes. I don't care :)

A real shame about the plates, this was otherwise mint

Definately shite.... in a glorious way.

I used to live 50 yards from this guy, but never got a photo of it in the street (mainly cos the guy looks bloody scary)

Years since I've seen one of these, it was a daily too - occupying the space that the TVR club had after they went

Looked fun!

You know a subtle camera-by-the-side shot when you see it. That was queueing for a grubby hotdog.

The thought of Donington being no more makes me very sad. I have fond memories of my dad taking me from quite a young age. As he was a flag marshal I was left to my own devices to wander around getting either sunburn or frostbite (there is no moderate weather when it comes to motor sport spectating, I find). Happy days.

Not that I'm aware of, never seen one around there. Think he had a 24v Scorpio previously, spent a good 12 months up on 4 ramps with the gearbox on the back seat.

My driver for the day (the chap in the silly hat and the MX5) used to volunteer for marshalling, and his dad was on duty on Sunday - hence we turned up late, drove through the crowds and parked where we damn well wanted to :)

Musta missed that! Was it on display somewhere or just parked up?To be fair, the F1 exhibition was so damn massive that I missed my traditional walk around the carpark - the shot of the orange saab though the fence is all I got. By the time we'd done the exhibition (£7 for room after room after room of exhibits - well worth it!) the carpark was mostly empty.

She was parked with the FUCEM lot (East Midlands Fry Up Club) wherever they were. Sadly I couldn't make it myself.
