New car! 2CV Dolly.

This has been owned by a lady down the road from us for the last 10 years, it's been kept outside and used everyday, rain or shine. Well my dad was coming past the house and noticed a for sale sign sellotaped to the bootlid. 'Tax and Mot, £400 ono' I went round, had a look, established it's Mot'd until October and taxed till August, and bought it for £350. Sadly the owner had to get rid as her husband who did all the work on it had become ill and could no longer work on it - she has a V reg Clio now.

It needs a good polish, oh and we need to check the chassis carefully for rot as it's still the original. We fitted a new battery and new spark plugs to improve the starting, it's a bit fussy when cold. Pandamonium picked this up in his spotted thread :)

I really like it :)

Nice work Dicky! £350 sounds like a steal, most of the ones I've seen are well beyond autoshite budget, especially if they're road legal.

Better not let my wife see this. She used to have a charleston and wants another bloody 2cv now.

Noice.Maybe get rid of the number plate surround and the dog footprint stickers. Or you could keep them in a 'can't be bothered to get rid' sort of way.

thats lovely, i had one of these about 2 yrs ago anpaid £400 for it but was in much worse condition than yours an i still sold it for a profit, seems you got yourself a good bargain there :D

Thanks! Already taken the numberplate surround off but left the dog footprint stickers as I quite like them. It's seen a bit of welding around the front scuttle, inner sills, seatbelt mountings and floors but it all seems solid enough. The body is actually very tidy for a 2CV. :)

ZOWIE, CAVIE!!!That's a pretty good deal you've got there.

Yep 1963 FB, nice car that :)

Here's Pandamonium's picture of the 2CV taken last year (hope he doesn't mind)

Keep forgetting to post this, lives across the road from where I work.

Thats a good buy well done - yep the chassis needs to be checked if it's original, check the steel panel underneath for bodgery too, same reg plate age as mine, I got one with a galvanised chassis and looking at the price of these recently I was lucky to get it for under £2k, if you want any advice me, Dollywobbler, and I think theres someone else with one just shout. Please keep the paw prints!

Posted

Thanks! Don't worry, the pawprints are staying :)

yeh keep the paw prints they add a bit off character  all our cars are covered in them but they wash off and are then suddenly back in the morning. i would love a 2cv as the diane i had was one off the most fun cars to drive, its probably the only car ive had that could be driven flat out everyware and as for the lean in the corners that is so much fun a bit like a fairground ride gone wrong.

Unusual colour, is it just the photo or are the wings Metallic Burgundy? Never seen one like that. I think more people should get 2CVs done in metallics, there was a restored one near me in Metallic Black, it looked really smart but also unfamiliar and strange.

Posted

Very nice! Bargains, much cheapness!

Posted

Are you going to keep A WOMAN'S PLACE IS IN CONTROL on the rear plate as well as the paw prints?

Posted

Yay! More 2CV action! £350 really can't be bad, though the rear panel's looking a little crusty (as is mine...)

As has been said, any queries, let us know. And ahem... www.2cvgb.co.uk (well I ought to really!)

Darn it. Wondered why I hadn't seen it in a while. I would like it when you are done!

Thanks guys, it's rare to find a 2CV that doesn't seem to need much doing to it for a decent price, so we're hoping to hang onto it for a while yet. It passed the MOT last year with no advisories, so I'm hoping the chassis is sound - we'll check it out this afternoon hopefully.Dollywobbler - It's not nearly as smart as yours, but it's reasonably tidy :) I might join the 2CV GB.Vicsmith - The colour is called Plums and Custard I think :) It is the original colour scheme.

WOW! Thats nice, bargain as well!I've got a bit of 2CV lust going on at the moment so am rather jealous.

Not sure that purple paint is standard - is it actually metallic? It's the right shade for 'plums and custard' but does have a metallic look to it. Quite funky. 2CVers generally aren't originality freaks anyway!

Slam, Matt, and Blingin' Rimz or Moondiscs?

Doesn't matter what colour it is at the moment once your have Matt blacked it, YO!Great find BTW, I do like these, even though they all seem to be owned by eccentric old woman who work in a library, Or JJ's mum in Skins (Hot milf).

Yep metallic dark red/purple, I'd say the red bits have been resprayed at some point as the finish is a bit orange-peely. I did one wing with wet and dry and it looks much better. I did think the red paint was originally metallic, but maybe not?

Anyway, we had it on the ramps today and had a good poke around. The good news, the chassis although clearly original, is mostly sound thanks to being coated with waxoil at some point. The bad news, one of the front chassis rails looks a bit frilly, a section about 4 inches long, then on the driver's side there are a couple of outriggers which need repairing, and one on the passenger side, about 3-4 inches long. The only other iffy bit is the front floors, which have been plated from inside the car and passed the MOT but the rotton original floors are hanging off the underside and look a mess  We'll probably end up replacing the complete floor sections. Where is the best place to get parts for these?

Unfortunately I snapped the original dealer rear plate while removing the surround :( Is this an MOT fail?

I thought PJN was a familiar plate, Roy Tolley's was local to me as lad, I lived a few door down from his mum who always had new Citroen's in her driveway.

That something I need to join as well - as for parts just go a google - 2CV City seem to sell quite a few bits and DW's link above - just beat me !
