neil1971 Posted August 14, 2022 Posted August 14, 2022 I found an old Barnard Marcus property auction catalogue from 1989 and the photos of some of the lots captured some period street scenes and old shite. Sorry for the picture quality. Soundwave, Dyslexic Viking, adw1977 and 25 others 27 1
inconsistant Posted August 14, 2022 Posted August 14, 2022 One of the only things keeping me on facebook is the group ‘British road scenes 1955-1995’, some lovely pics on there. neil1971 1

Soundwave Posted August 14, 2022 Posted August 14, 2022 Now, is that a combined printing/tattoo shop or is the tattoo sign just an example of the print shop's work? If it's the former, that's a pretty weird combination, and I imagine the tattooing is done by shoving customers' limbs into the printer. CaptainBoom 1
Bren Posted August 14, 2022 Posted August 14, 2022 I did work experience at an AR main dealer the late 80's. One of the mechanics bankcrupted himself to buy a commander. Lacquer Peel 1
Missy Charm Posted August 14, 2022 Posted August 14, 2022 'happy highways where I went and cannot come again...' Funny the feelings that photos like that stir in one; the intense desire to open the front door and step out and find, just once perhaps, that it's all been put back to how it was then. The eye is conditioned, somehow, to view what's there as better; it wasn't and it was, of course. We didn't have lots of money in those days, but that was tempered by the world seeming a little younger and more optimistic in certain ways. The streets were meaner, crime and unrest felt palpably closer, but with the frisson of danger came fun and freedoms to do what we now cannot. Thank you for scanning the photos: nostalgia is addictive. timolloyd, bunglebus, RayMK and 6 others 9

HMC Posted August 14, 2022 Posted August 14, 2022 I’m glad the catalogue isn’t online. I’m almost having flashbacks of sainsburys archive. I got a bit obsessed about that 🤪 RobT 1

neil1971 Posted August 15, 2022 Author Posted August 15, 2022 Bit more mediocrity from the 1980s. Not sure if 20% of a CF justifies tagging @eddyramrod 😀 Dyslexic Viking, RayMK, bunglebus and 6 others 9
eddyramrod Posted August 15, 2022 Posted August 15, 2022 OOh slideys! And a Chevette estate, where have they all gone now? I had one way back in... hmmm...87 or 88 I think. UWW 92R. Joey spud 1
motorpunk Posted August 15, 2022 Posted August 15, 2022 Great thread. I follow David Jazay on Twitter who similarly documents street scenes of Dublin.

somewhatfoolish Posted August 16, 2022 Posted August 16, 2022 Strong Bonusprint discount film that's been rattled through a cheap camera by a non-photographer vibe; I have similarly muddy looking film in a folder somewhere. neil1971 1

Are mkiv and v Cortinas the same stud pattern as Talbots from that era? I've got a clear memory of my parents neighbour's son owning an immaculate red W plate Cortina estate which was sat on white Wellers. He had running issues so took it for a spirited drive around the block, only to smash it up on the first blind corner. A few days later a clean looking white Sunbeam appeared on his drive next to the ruined Cortina and I'm sure I remember the Wellers being swapped onto the Talbot. It looked great! Joey spud 1

Then photographed on an £8 digital camera by an amateur before uploading to here 😀. Here are the last few, hard to tell as it's very much in the background but might just be a Cherry Turbo in picture 7? Also love the old school spares shop with the pre-facelift Mk2 Granny outside and the shonky beige Cortina outside the Prudential. somewhatfoolish, D.E, RayMK and 4 others 7

Wonder if the Granada estate ended its days at Foxhall Raceway? Apparently it made it to 1995. somewhatfoolish 1

The oval was probably the most likely fate for the Granada, clean looking Ghia X by the look of it. somewhatfoolish and Spottedlaurel 1 1
