Mr Pastry Posted June 17, 2022 Posted June 17, 2022 I can't help feeling that for £7k the seller ought to change the fuel pump and get it running properly, not expect the buyer to do it. Rust Collector, stripped fred and 500tops 3

But Grogee reckons it'll give him a good opportunity to see what he might be letting himself in for in terms of the underbody etc. This is Autoshite, don't forget, not a Quentin Wilson buyers guide. grogee 1

Yeah but would you buy it on Ebay on those terms? "£7k, should sail through an mot, doesn't drive, might be fuel pump, but no probs M8 bring yr own tools and parts and you can try and fix it in my driveway." I don't think so. LT84 and SiC 2

I reckon Grogee knows how many beans make five! Very interested to see how this one works out.

That's kind, but I'm not great on bean counting. The other part of the story which I forgot to relay is that the fuel pump fixing job is paid, so I could just go and do the job and get £100 or whatever for that on its own. Also, he's not said it's definitely for sale for £7k firm. He's ummed and ahhed about wanting a Boxster which he would use instead of the MG garage ornament which isn't getting used. So the situation is fluid and what's more I work with the guy so neither of us wants to piss the other off... CreepingJesus, BorniteIdentity, Yoss and 3 others 6
bangernomics Posted June 24, 2022 Posted June 24, 2022 Buy a boxster a better proposition all round and likely cheaper. Could it get any worse?
grogee Posted June 24, 2022 Author Posted June 24, 2022 Turns out a lot of his mates are asking if he's 'selling it cheap'. He wants top dollar for it and will be advertising it on Car & Classic. Fair enough, I'd probably do the same. Just need to work out when I can get round and sort out his fuel pump. Will have to get my Leyland kicks from something else (preferably an Ital).

I know a lad who might be persuaded to let this one go... May* also need a fuel pump, mind. Plus some general* tidying. But I'd say that if you were to offer him £7k, he'd almost definitely take it. 😉 Wibble, LT84 and 500tops 3
grogee Posted July 25, 2022 Author Posted July 25, 2022 Here's the offending item. No chance of a mate's rates discount unfortunately. Anyway my head's been turned by some other BLARG shite which I'll be boring you all with soon. https://www.carandclassic.com/car/C1478578 Erebus 1
mk2_craig Posted July 25, 2022 Posted July 25, 2022 Don’t know if I’ve become massively out of touch in the last few years but I can’t equate an £8k asking price with something needing that amount of work done to it. But good luck to the owner - must be a decent profit in it if anything close to eight grand is actually achieved. CreepingJesus 1

I concur… to get that to be worth £15k, it’s going to need at least £10k spent on it , if it’s done professionally

Split_Pin Posted July 28, 2022 Posted July 28, 2022 A Metro restoration project for eight grand. I can't mentally process that. Still it's good to see that it's not just Ford products that have skyrocketed in price, 80s MG Turbo models seem to be really desireable now which guarantees that a good few will survive.
sierraman Posted July 28, 2022 Posted July 28, 2022 It’s great it’s survived but £8k in this climate? Not a chance.

True that; since about 1995, Mk1 Metro Turbos seemed to only exist as things you'd find on the drive of a Mini enthusiast with the front end hacked off, before immediate dispatch to the scrappie. No-one seemed to actually drive them back then, just strip them for bits. Two brothers down the far end of our street who were into motorsport must have pillaged the engines from about a dozen of them in the 90s, including some that looked really clean. They also had a Lancia Delta HF Integrale rotting away in a corner of the garden for years, plus various Mantas, Mk2 Escort Sports, RWD Starlets and Skoda Estelles. Split_Pin 1
