In Chigwell, that might be worth going to have a look at. :?Edit: I skyped the link to Mrs_Seth and got a simple shaking head "smily" back. :(

Is this how relationships work in the modern world?...

Hey this looks tidy enough. Not many of these that have made it this far, without having a shitty RS turbo engine fitted, boost cranked up to grenade-spec level and loads of gay stickers wanged on.

got nicked from my home but only got the wee car 2 the end of my street as every night i take the lead of the distributor cap lol so when the wee nova wouldnt start they attempted to burn it out but it got caught in the nic of time as they were a fire engine coming along my street

it is a shame for such a stunning car 2 go 2 waiste

You're right about that, its wasted sat on your drive when it could be blazing away at the end of the street, bumpers melting into a black sticky gloop on the tarmac.
Thats a criminal waste of a very rare car.

My brother in law had a totally unmolested 'Antibes' up til 4 years ago, 1 lady owner before him and had about 55k on the clock. It was a bit scruffy but he only sold it for 150 quid which was a mega bargain. gutting thing is I was living back at my parents house at the time and already had 5 cars so couldnt get it. :(.

Its no longer around now I presume as some bloke bought it and turned it into a van, but not seen it for about 3 years now.

I don't understand. What's the point of that, when you can have a proper van? I know where there's a Mk4 van I could have for one and a half....

What's the point of a full size van when all you need is a little one?

I am saddened by the demise of 'combi' vans like those, they are ideal if (like me) you don't need to put anything tall in the van but do need quite a lot of floorspace. I think the Astra is the only one like that these days.

Hey imagine cruising about town in this with the top down, checking out the wimmin...

They will not be able to resist, and you and your metro will be swept away on a tidal wave of lady gravy.

he sills could be repaired with filler as the MOT station is not allowed to remove any plastic covers fitted to any car

Aye, that's a good idea, given that (I suspect) this car has the structural stiffness of a damp paper bag even when fresh off the production line...

Simply make an entire monocoque out of filler, and then drape a tarp over it as "the MoT station isn't allowed to remove any covers".Is this actually true? As when I MoTed (or attempted to...) an Astra GTE, they took the plastic sill covers off and laughed for hours at the amount of welding it needed. I think their little yellow crayon wore out.

I reckon these should be in our collective radar by now...

Surprisingly no LexArse lights, neons or Runcorn bridge stylee spoilers.

Also both local(ish) and cheap. Slap bang in the middle of Warren G and Minimental's 'hood.

Skint and have holiday to pay for but SRSLY tempting.

An MOT tester cannot remove side covers etc fitted to some vehicles eg the last Mk of Allegro - BL put them on because they knew the things would rot out so quick. This would also apply to body kit skirts on sills etc.

But they can take off engine covers can't they? I'd imagine they have to to get to the plug leads to do an emissions test?

UR JKS, RITE?I thought they just boshed an anal probe up the exhaust for emissions test. Certainly when I have sat outside Dare_Vapid's MoT shack nonchelantly smoking fags and pretending not to be bored this is what I see.

The last car I watched being MoTed was a Mondeo, and they had to clip a probe around a plug lead before anally probing it - I guess to measure RPM to perform the idle and high-speed test? But on previous, older cars - they didn't lift the bonnet for the emissions.

i have moted more cars than i care to remember and ive never seen them conect to the plug leads once  anyway how would they do the cars with coilpacks for plugcaps as they have no leads :?: the midget just got the exhaust probe but the newer cars ive tested had a probe shoved down the dipstick to get the oil temp.on the removal of sill covers that is true hence why the gsi ive got still has mot left even though the sills are hideing all over the countryside:roll: the tester also told me that he couldnt scrape off underseal to see whats hidden beneath even brakepipes cant be unearthed from the black sludge off doom  seems like a dangerouse rule to me.

Thought they had a specific tool for scraping crud off brake pipes? Agree with the side-skirt thing though. They can't remove 'em and poke about underneath.

Posted

They can remove easily clip engine covers, if they can, to measure rpm. Although all emission tester machines now ask if rpm can be measured and if not to use vehicle rev counter. See reference below.

http://www.transportoffice.gov.uk/crt/d ... guides.htm

As for scraping brake pipes; they are the same as any other part of the car. The tester is NOT allowed to remove any protective coating by any means. BUT if the part of the vehicle (in this case a brake pipe) is rusty and not covered with anything then the tester can scrape the rust to make an assessment.

This is what the Corrosion Assessment Tool is for - checking/scraping rust - but not protective coatings.

They can measure rpm with a little magnetic (acoustic) device that they stick to a random metal bit on the engine. Works well and avoids all the shit with coilpacks / coil over plug etc.MOT testers are supposed to check the oil level before doing emissions tests, so they're meant to open the bonnet at least.
