Malton isn't that far...For that sort of money, what could possibly go wrong?

If a thermometer could detect BELL ENDING the vendor of the vehicle would be in a deep freeze in the intensive care unit built into Iceland's cold storage unit.

'Historic Rally Car'

No it's not, it's an Allegro in primer. The only 'rally' this has been anywhere near is a Grifter.

'There is no Engine with the car and not that it makes a great difference'

Absolutely. I mean what could be better than a historic rally car that isn't an historic rally car and doesn't have an engine?

It is for me unfortunately, otherwise I'd go for it. Still waiting to hear back from the bloke who's selling one the same as this but 150 miles closer.

Even if I really don't have the storage/parking space for anything right now, I do need to buy and/or sell a heap of shite or two, because I need to show a bit of activity to justify renewing my trade policy and not have to pay thousands for a normal one come June...so I might be going up there to have a look sometime next week (as long as the snow doesn't come back- I've seen some sub-zero forecasts for Sun/Mon).

Not much - it's manual* and with a pretty bombproof (Douvrin?) engine.

I'm tempted - but the last mk 1 GTX I saw on t'bay didn't exactly go for 'shite money.

*sadly - this set up in a RHD 25 leaves nowhere to rest the left foot - I found it a right pa*n in the arse in my (briefly-owned) TXI.

Shite pics taken in a scrapyard, no history, a car that's been standing for ages...I can't see it being too popular, really. Does anyone know whether they come equipped with air-con?

Posted

A manual mk1 GTX is probably the most sought-after 25 (in the UK at least). It may appeal to few but I reckon there will be a fair bit of interest from those that would like one.

Mind you - my idea of 'shite money is under £500 (which I' m sure it'll exceed), it could still end up cheap by most other folks' standards :D

I don't think it'll have air-con.

Jesush! This guy basically needs to be banned from ever owning an old car again. What an absolute twatnugget. Having the gall to start bidding at £200 despite the fact that it is essentially now worthless because of his crappy attempt to turn it into a 'rally car' is the depressing icing on the shitty cake.

Right, back into lurk mode

Wow...I certainly wouldn't have guessed. What's so special about the GTX?

Might be worth turning up tomorrow with 400 notes in hand and seeing whether the seller is as oblivious as I was.

Of course - I'm no expert - I could be completely wrong and the price stalls where it is :D

GTX has the 2.2 engine so I guess a bit more grunt.

The auto's have bad reputation while the manuals are tough (I think the GTX has the UN1 beloved by kit car builders).

It's a fairly basic, tough engine and box, which is increasingly appealing these days.

Rear arches seem to rust first - hard to tell, but they look sort of okay in the pics. Often see a large round blister under the front wheelarches too (where the front chassis 'legs' meet the inner wing skins I think).

Good luck if you go for it - I'll keep my fingers crossed for you!

(mr-renault-139 - sometimes here, mostly on the R4 forum - is a great source of R25 knowledge and parts!)

EDIT - a Mk1 GTX sale from a while back...

Cheers for that, mr Flakes! I'll give them a ring in the morning and take it from there. :D

Or save expensive fuel costs* and buy these off me for £45.00

They're going over the scales next week once the tyre have been removed.

*And put the money towards the three new tyres they require!

No, it's certainly not a bastard historic rally car! It's AMA 261 S, my former Allegro!

I sold it to my mate Dave a couple of years ago. He did all sorts, welded the sills, fitted a NOS rear quarter, NOS lower rear corners, NOS fuel tank, brand new radiator, and got it ready for respray, but got into bikes instead, so he ebayed it last year. Dave's into Minis and is all too aware of how handy an Allegro with a 50,000 mile 1275 A series would be, but despite vetting a lot of potential knobheads, it fell into the hands of a Mini owning bellend who engine-raped it and flogged the remains again on ebay.

I loved that car and took great pleasure in fitting it with inappropriate period tat. SS wheel trims, equipe spoiler, Midget headrests, NOS BL mudflaps, retro-fitted quartic steering wheel and a nice 1970s Pioneer stereo,

Here it is in happier times;

Despite how it looks now, it's a rock solid 2 door shell with low mileage (it did 11,000 miles in 26 years under it's first owner), and I hope it can be saved from it's descent into the world of bellendery...

That just makes what that dickhead's done to it even more infuriating. What a criminal waste of a nice looking car that would have given someone a lot of pleasure.

What a shame. Antique Gold is such a lovely colour.

Someone told me that anything with an A series 1275cc engine on e-bay which sells for less that £400 will almost certainly be bought by a Mini owner.

Why do people have to be so destructive?!!

Posted

I know this type of thing often happens and is mentioned on here but it still really fucks me off. Well I hope someone saves it instead of it sitting around rotting until it gets cubed.

Another one which needs saving from a similar fate to the one above.

Being series 1 and being black must make it extremely rare if not unique.

When I sold my Allegro I advertised it on e-bay and Car and Classic and I stipulated that I would not sell to a mini owner. It seemed to work and I vetted any interested parties!!

He's not saying that particular car is a rally car, is he? He's saying Allegros in general have a Rally history and this would make a great historic rally car.

At least that's what I think he means... :|

Posted

What he seems to be suggesting is that you could replicate the 1300cc rally car with this car. How he thinks that is possible without and engine I don't know. When I tried sourcing a 1275cc engine for my old Allegro I would have had to spend at least £400, more than the car was worth! I could have got a E series 1500 for half of that!
