The ideal car for you is of course the Toyota Starlet* * Actually that would still be a pretty good choice even if you had made a few hundred more posts :)

yep, except she said £500, not £5000!

You would struggle to find a Mk1 fez for £500 though.

Really ?There has been a small number of them on fleebay going for £500 or just under.

Or do I want this?

I drive a van all day for work, so I'm not sure if I'd like the luxury of back windows!

'Course you do!

Nerdy anorak alert and all that but they don't look like the original seats to me, they look a bit 'posh' compared to the standard dog plop affair you got in cheaper models.

Still, an early facelift one and looks a nice motor for the money.

Same seats as in my 1300L, same year, same colour. I should bomb round there and get a photo of the pair together!

I use it as a good match to Datsun/Nissan air filter box blue

For van duties how about the baby Fiat 900?

I like Fiats, however these are, without doubt, the bigest pile of excrement ever to grace God's green earth. Slow, ill handing, uncomfortable, despicable little rust buckets. The camper version had a top speed of approx 43 mph, and was bordering on dangerous. SHIIIIIIIIIIIIT!

I'm still looking, and thinking maybe the boyf can be bullied about the budget, where are good places to look, apart from ebay and car and classic? I found the classic mags have next to nothing in them.Trying some owners clubs websites too.

Surely Classic Car Weekly has plenty of tempters Louise? It's a great publication. After all, you and your 2CV appeared in there once...

I tried that and there were things like 1998 LDV's in it, which aren't classic cars!! :P Is that allegro still in? Might have to have a look.

There was a Renault 11 and some cheap Sierras. The best two pages are classics under £1000.

Out of budget, but I'm loving this:

I have wanted an allegro for ages, and I've always liked 70's fords, but they are all too expensive. Thinking of Viva's and Chevettes also. Hillman Avengers... I find the front styling a let down cnsidering the hockey stick rear lights, but wouldn't mind.

Would love but I'm not mad enough: Sunbeam Rapier fastback.
