THE GUBBERMINT ALWAYS KNOWS BEST

I shall upload pics shortly...there's not a huge amount of chod as my sister was the picture taker - we did miss a couple of good ones. A Mk3 Cortina that was half in primer and very noisy, and.....

....a broken-down Austin Maxi! K-reg in that Slime Green - similar to Mr H.Sceptre's (I think?) - poor guy looked bloody distraught, bless him. He'd broken down on the M25 just near to the Dartford Tunnel.

Hai, where is FredTransit?

Has she gone after the reposting of that video?

Sorry to bring this up - just wondered.

Fred is still around since she did a post in the confirmation thread, anyway back to news...

2CV will be off the road for the next 6-8 months since I want to do some bodywork restoration, nothing too major, just re-paint/repair, and maybe a little bit of welding on the right hand sill.

Posted

No  I did look, it was a K-reg definitely with black and white plates...

A worthwhile improvement! I also spotted some shite which I don't really know where to put on here...is it worthy of a thread about my roadtrip??

Looks top-notch with those wheels on (with centre caps to boot), just black up the bumpers/trim and it'll look fresh from the brochure!

Cheers Hirst  I'll get the peanut butter on the black trim when I next clean her!

It's almost brochure-spec but it needs a pair of front orange indicators and a pair of un-tinted rear lights to get that far....

Linseed oil works great at blacking up faded plastic.

I know it's not the Autoshite way, but I can safely say that Meguiars Trim Detailer is the best stuff I've used in 20 years of car ownership. It's not cheap, but very little goes a long way.

After I'd washed the car, and used the Meguiars 1-2-3 polish/wax etc, I finished the (Rover) off with the trim detailer. Later that day a bloke in the petrol station asked me "Where did you get a brand new Rover? Thought they weren't made any more"

CHUFFED!

I've got some Meg-wires bumper stuff - it's great, for about 3 days. Horrible on the hands though - wish I didn't keep forgetting to put gloves on...

BX is back. Wishbone bushes had almost fallen out, but sadly clonks remain - so the suspected ARB drop links are still suspected. Oh well. At least I know that the knackered bushes have gone.

The Astra looks ace now with the correct alloys on.

Oh no! Come back Fred!!!

Thanks Trig, she does look 1000x better with those wheels on. I can't believe my luck really!

I did look out for you as I was around Ipswich/A12 area but sadly no Orange Opels anywhere :( did see a burnt-out Laguna which I snapped. Looked pretty FUBAR'D...

That's odd - it's survived a couple of weeks on the Rover, inclusing a very aggressive wash from Mrs. Ash. You have to shake the life out of it first, maybe that's the prob.

I was around my mates in Clacton in it today, I was amazed that i came home with all my wheels still fitted.

I'm also chuffed with all the thumbs up and manly nods I've had from passing fellow motorists and also at the tramp who asked me what it was!

What a sad sad shame.

Arsetray looks good, those rims are excellent. You have done the impossible - made me say something nice about a mark 3 Disastra. Well Done!

+1 for me! Cheers mate :D *punches the air in delight*

+57.

Astra looks just right on those rims. Orange indicators and non-tinted rear lights should be pretty easy to source I'd have thought?

Bit of a garndmother/eggs scenario so apologies if you've tried it...

...isn't there a common problem with clunking from BXs? I recall the fix was either soaking a bit of rag in LHM and lashing round the front strut 'things' or removing a pipe, putting into a bottle of LHM and going up/down on the suspension.

Pretty sure the latter cured the clonkiness on my old one but it was eons ago now. BXC has the fix on the forum somewhere.

Cheers Cav, I have got my eye on some orange front indies on eBay at the moment so they're good as bought. I did have a set of them, plus the rear untinted lights off my first Mk3 but I gave these away to a lad from where I used to work. Bugger.

Maybe I'm being dense here, but Fred's a woman, right?

A confusing [/i]nom de plume if that is the case.

Well, it confused me.

Correct.

Congratulations, have a pic of a Talbot Tagora:

Ah, but is it a Mk1, or a MkXXVIIIIIII facelift?

It's a throbbing 2.6 litres of gold, sharp creased, metric wheeled loveliness, with a grille that looks like it's come off a Remington shaver. It'll do nicely for me.

Sure, has there been two incidents then, as she was on here...yesterday!

I went to Nottingham this morning to see Akku (sadly not of this parish) and pick up an LPG kit which has no fitting instructions, parts list or diagrams. The whole thing whiffs slightly of gas though, which is a good thing.

Yesterday I checked the oil, water, brake fluid, gearbox oil and diff oil on the Ginetta, the replacement axle I put on a couple of weeks ago seems to be in good shape with no leaks. The 2 litre Pinto barely uses or burns a drop of oil but I'm not convinced the heater is bled properly yet.

Filled the tank with petrol and up the M1 I went, had a very pleasant chat with Alistair, loaded some stuff into my car and zipped back home. 170 miles this morning at 40mpg. I'm quite pleased with that.
