Ah, Pics... I'll try to get a few up later but no promises! I need to get over to the inlaws house to upload them see...

It could be a bit more than a bit of sill work, I have been reading through the huge pile of bills and receipts for the old bus and have found its last MOT PHAIL, nothing too drastic at all really. The owner had an attempt at getting it MOTd and sent it to his local garage to work on. Spent near on £400 in an attempt to keep it on the road.

Anyway, heres a slightly shorter version of the fail.

Nearside stop lamp deteriorated= FIXED

Offside numberplate lamp not working=FIXED

Offside/Nearside anti rollbar borked=FIXED

Exhaust emissions excessive=FIXED

Downpipe leaking

Front/rear numberplates deteriorated=NOT FIXED but Bollocks testing IMO.

Offside outer centre sill holed

Offside rear shock top mounting rotted=FIXED

Boot floor rusty near tow bar mountings= NOT FIXED-REMOVE TOWBAR??

Theres a load of advisories for rust too, including a holed N/S sill. It really could do with a pair of them, plus a rear arch. Its also rusty around the front screen and has a load more non-structural rot holes in the boot which I will lose sleep over until its all fixed

With all the receipts for the recent work done was a bill for the following work.

REMOVE DRIVERS SEAT AND INSPECT FOR SILL FLOOR CORROSION HEAVY CORROSION AND HOLED FLOORPAN ADVISE ON REPAIR AND COSTS INVOLVED.

JOB ABORTED AS REQUESTED BY OWNER.

£400 down the pan! but thats what you get when you smoke about in manky old bangers I suppose.

Oh dear. Still, as I'm sure you could fix a lot of that yourself it might be worth it?

Humm, I dunno. Mega clean 244's come up on ebay now and again and don't make much money, this one is deffo uneconomic to repair really, but thats not the shiters way I guess!

*O/t sorry: How's Daisy by the way, good I hope?

Yeah, shes sound! Still scampering about and climbing up my leg grunting whenever I'm in the garden with her.

*Missus and kids said thankyou.

Apologies for the interruption to thread.

Although I had lots of work and house things to do this weekend, impending insurance renewal meant I had to do something about selling the Camry Sport. I cleaned it up yesterday and after being messed about by someone off another forum I stuck it on Gumtree this morning. Had a number of calls through the day, but the one who got here first and messed me about least was a chap from London who I think does a bit of export.

His first question wasn't how much could I knock off the price, he didn't quibble about its issues and I now have a bit of cash in my pocket. Annoyingly the ABS light has come on within the last couple of days and it did have other minor faults, so the idea of a hassle-free sale was attractive - I sold it for somewhat less than any I've seen on eBay/Autotrader recently, but likewise I didn't pay a huge amount for the Estate I now use as my daily so I'm not too fussed.

Seems likely it'll end up in Nigeria, he said they'll convert it to LHD. Would have been nice to keep it for trackdays, but that would have been a bit of an indulgence and I have the accident-damged one I can use for that purpose.

Sera went in for an MOT last week, so Saturday was spent fixing the relatively few faults.

Number plate light Inop - Bulb

Major leak of exhaust gases (CAT) - There is a temp sensor on the Cat, which had come loose - Re-Attached.

NSF balljoint securing bolt insecure - Re-Tightened

OSF tyre worn below limit - Part worn fitted at £15.00

And thats it, had previously replaced a CV boot, which was split, and tinkered around with all the lights, de-seized the wiper linkage and generally got everything working again.

Will be back in for a retest this week, happy days!

Going to have a look at this tomorrow afternoon. It's a 96.

When I enquired about the price, the shop owner says "Sure we'll talk about it, eh?" I reckon between 2 and a half to 2750 if it's a good one (and has been derestricted)

Nice.

had Honda got over their 'Renault automatic gearbox style cam chains' by then though?

Posted

No idea, Billy. I bought my VF500 from the same shop 20 years ago (Linton's is a family business) and they have a good rep for honesty. I'll ask him about the chain. Cheers for the tip! I may look an arse though, as some of the JDM machines had gear driven cams, but I don't know about this one.

I got fed up with Charles Hurst motorcycles after my GP-X seized it's engine, and the cheeky bastard salesman said "It won't get much oil round the top end of the engine when it's on the back wheel." Kawasaki gave me a new bike, though, and I didn't wheelie that one. Much. In my defence, my girlfriend at the time had a large ass, and upset the equilibrium somewhat.

Its official, my "new" 244 is too rotten to repair, Floors and inner/outer sills completely knackered, rear inner wings now have fist sized holes in them. It will be GR99 for spares though, plus it has a pair of good 175/80/14s on!

IIRC, these have gear-driven cams - after the chocolate camchains of the mid-80s, Honda fitted gears to the VFR750F's cam drive, and this followed on into the later VFR750R (the RC30) . This was great for reliability, but required different pistons if you wanted to increase the compression ratio as you couldn't skim the heads - which was a problem for a certain race class where you had to use stock pistons. You could modify the standard pistons to balance them/make them lighter/etc., but you couldn't use different ones. The solution? Weld aluminium over the top of the stock pistons and machine them to what you needed.

Got a call from the garage, my car is ready (again) but as I've been feeling crap today I asked them to keep it for me until I I fetch it tomorrow.

Hopefully this time it'll actually do what a car is suppose to do and actually work.

Nice Honda /\ /\ /\, heard a lot of good about them.

Had to give back this sex machine today after a brief but oh so exciting fling

And reclaim this shite machine

Which promptly broke down on the way home leaving me to push it's sorry arse up the highest hill in old London town  Seems it's not a happy moto, running hot and bothered. Plug out for a reading when I find the socket, Can't be much wrong, hopefully, fingers crossed.

In other news the van mot has snuck round again, best dig the welder out. The Leon has a perspex side window (don't ask it's a sorry affair  ). Thankfully the Cortina just works, needs work but works all the same and is the nicest drive by far. Bicycle to work in the morn, I haz brand new second hand retro Raleigh racer :D

Genuinely surprised to hear that, WWR. CG125s were fantastically reliable bikes, just hope it's something minor, as you say fingers crossed it's not much wrong.

+1. They only have about 6 moving parts. I had one myself and it was mega economical, so much so that I ran out of pez more than once cos I forgot to fill it up.

Posted

*Actually more economical than a C90 too. If there's a better 125 commuter bike anywhere I've yet to see it, the CG is perfect for blatting about on locally.

Thanks Chris. Just got it back now, nearly coughed myself to death today though, just as the taxi was coming to pick me up

Scientific experiment partly conducted: I've just lobbed some veg oil into the dizzler, along with a can of what was either diesel or stale petrol. First 'Italian tune up' seemed to go o.k, I expect to find out if there's any nasty side effects after a couple of days driving.

Broken trailer lighting board repaired and tested (it works!) so all being well a maiden voyage on the canal on my boat will be in order at the weekend.

New wheels on the way (except there will probably be no one home when they arrive tomorrow).

Rev counter on the Rover stopped working on the way home from work today. Not a major issue as the engine is basically a Perkins Prima so lets you know loud and clear when you're approaching its limits, but still slightly irritating. Still having enormous fun with it though - it's been a long time since I had a car which could blat past tractors so quickly - even the 900 T16S isn't that quick from 30-60 (even when it isn't in bits with a blown head gasket) as it has a lot more turbo lag than the Rover.

Just find the route the Mayflower took and do the opposite

Rover 200 coupe has new MoT, just needs the cam cover oil leak fixed and a cam-belt change.

I've been looking at stuff today to do with new Holdens. It seems other than a few chevy imports (spark etc) all of their own home bred stuff is just massive saloons, massive estates or massive pickups, which they've some how spread out over a range of 10 different models or so.*

*I didn't say I didn't want one.

I took a deposit on the Camaro today, new owner should be picking it up on saturday, leaving me v8 less now the 928 is also gone! -2 cars in 8 days will be a record for me! The XR4 went at the beginning of the month too! At least It'll give me some cash to waste on the shite I still have! :)

Just bought myself a motor, I needed something for doing lotsa miles, got a Rover 220 SDi and I'm well chuffed with it, damn thing goes like stink. Probably not as quick as Wuvvums, but not bad at all. Plus it's only done 48k :D

Got to drive a Fiat 500 (proper size, Nuova) today. I'd always thought of it as fairly similar to a 2CV in spirit, yet after 80 miles in the 2CV, the next 20 in the Fiat felt like torture! Slow, noisy, crap steering, crap gearchange (why did they not bother with ANY synchromesh?!) and then it developed a fuel starvation issue. Tellingly, when I leapt from the Italian tin can to a Reliant Regal (my first time in one!) I felt like I'd hopped into a Bentley. Ignore Wuvvum - Reliant Regals are ace (as long as you've just jumped out of a Fiat 500). Also drove a Robin and now want one very, very much...
