Gave TV2 an 'oil service' this morning, meaning that it's more or less ready for my German sojourn next week, although it could to with a wash ;)

Bluebird now on the road. Changed the oil and filter, sump capacity is 3.8 litres. I drained out 6. Hopefully that explains the smoking at high revs

The day after the transit passed the MOT I noticed it start pulling ever so slightly to the left on straight roads - no pull while braking...So I jack it up and spin front wheels, all just fine. Move the jack and spin back wheels. Well, spin the offside one and try to spin the nearside - it turned but not easily. I haz bindy brake.

It'd been stood for a while so I thought it might just be a bit dirty, drop the drum off and give it a clean. Easy job.

Nope. One nearside friction lining came off with the drum and the other one lifting at one end. Even hammering on a slightly smaller socket didn't work. Trip to town, get new axle set of brake shoes, fit. Easy job.

Nope. Nearside cylinder has one seized piston and when I moved the other rubber cap/seal I got a handfull of brake fluid. Even hammering on a slightly smaller socket didn't work. I really should've looked a bit closer when I took out the shoes. Trip to town, get new cylinder, fit. Easy job.

Nope. New cylinder has 25.4mm bore and is the only type listed on supplier's computer - old cylinder and the other side both have 20.6mm bores. Bum. Even hammering on a slightly smaller socket didn't work. Get another new cylinder delivered from different supplier who lists 3 types (I could've got the other bits delivered too but fancied a bit of a drive, plus had other stuff to get). Fit all new parts (well, except the cylinder that's wrong) and bleed. Easy job.

Nope. Brake fluid came out black. Even hammering on a slightly smaller socket didn't work. Replace brake fluid (I did have the foresight to get some of this with the cylinder), bleed through. Easy job.

Yep! I now have spinny wheels that stop when they should :D I just have to return the incorrect cylinder for a refund and I'll only be about £50 lighter. Could be worse, I could have to pay for labour!

finally fixed gears on vw. Replaced the front bushes and replaced the nylon selectors on the bottom of the linkage. Now I haz gears! Hurrah.

One tyre got a slow puncture so reinflated it and will run with it for now. Sorted the horn and also the fan selector switch. Funny how little things make you feel satisfied. Need to fix the speedo and also sort out the coolant temp on the dashboard. Then an oil change as well. Need to get a mega jack again after I sold the last one. Needs to be a 3 tonne version

Stripped back seats out of micra to clean them up. I must have half a dog in the back there. Any good tips for getting rid of dog hair?

Cleaned it outside so it is bright and shiny and red now :) Next week it will get new brake discs and pads, new drivers side hub and oil change.

A lint roller, if it's quite light hair. Parcel tape wound round your hand if it isn't. Either way, it's a slog of a job.

See - it fits between the end of the drive and the C8.

Think there are some subtle differences between Mk1 and 2 doors, but nowt that can't be overcome. .

Mk 2 doors will fit a Mk 1 no problem at all, but not the other way round - the rear door shut/ inner arch profile is different on the Mk2, but the doors will still fit a mk1.

OMG Father Ted in post about cars shocker.

5 years ago my mate Bob bought this on eBay - it was his very first car ever and he spotted it one night whilst round at mine looking through ebay for a project.

It was no more than several boxes of bits, the photo you see is of some body panels resting against cardboard boxes.

This weekend it went off to the DooVLAy to be inspected and then its off down to the Morris show.

Well done Bob, not only restoring his very own first ever car, but managing to piss off the tweed bum Morris brigade by painting it the same colour he had it back in 1954 and not one from the Morris pallate. My hat is off to you. :D

The absolute best way i have found is take a junior hacksaw blade, and gently drag it across the seat, it is amazing how effective it is.I usually use a wet marigold type glove first to remove the worst of it.

The absolute best way i have found is take a junior hacksaw blade, gently slice up the rest of the hairy fucker and fry it slowly with garlic and onions

Hope this helps.

'fraid so.

In other news I'm either heading to a feloow shiter's abode to collect more old chod, stopping in for someone coming to buy my scooter or driving across country to piss through someone's letterbox.

Fixed the floppy wiper on my Montego by tightening up the mechanism, easy quick fix. Then I decided to have a go at changing the rotor arm which I've been putting off for ages as it just won't budge off the camshaft. Took someone elses advice and started to hack saw the old one off, but in my vigour I've managed to saw through into the shaft itself. What an arse  And it's still not off. This on top of me having a stinking cold so I've been sneezing and dribbling snot all over the engine bay! I've come in for a break and a cuppa before I totally wreck it...

I one got a socket stuck on a seized wheelnut so had to knock a larger socket over the top, which also got stuck. This carried on until I got a socket the size of a bungalow stuck. Apparently they are used for for the crank pulley nuts on "Mallard" type steam trains.

In other news... is there anything this Audi won't pull?

Volvo is being MOT'd and needs a minor bit of welding.

Look who was on my patch recently..

The one and only MR B! Class car.. I think he was trying to find homebargains to loot and burn out. Its the other way, Mr B!

Hopefully these pics will appear the right way round eventually. Just as soon as PB sorts itself out.

*edit*

Are these pics showing the right way up for anybody??

The BX has landed. Quite literally. It seems to have run low on LHM. Neighbours disgusted, wife horrified, cat confused. Report to follow, including clutch mayhem with the Range Rover, minutes into the journey.

New rotor arm is now on, now the bugger won't start. I'm pretty sure the leads are on the dizzy cap in the correct order but it just turns over and doesn't fire up. Is it likely I've just got a duff rotor arm (Intermotor) or something more sinister? Any advice much appreciated before I set fire to it.

Edit: And no, I don't have a socket small enough :)

Trouble is Norm the old one is a pile of bits as I had to hack saw it off. This will teach me to tinker when I'm bored!
