This is where the silencer I got for my Dai came from:

https://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/i.html?_ssn=everyexhaustpart&store_name=everyexhaustpartlimited&_oac=1

and I was pleased with the result. You might be able to get a standard back-box from someone who has gone over to a stainless system possibly, or a better-packed aftermarket rear silencer. They're not always expensive.

Or just accept it and see what BMW want for a manufacturer original back box. Might not be as bad as you think?

Yeah, I don't fancy faffing about splicing in extra bits of exhaust.

I'll try to source a standard silencer from the local FB group or I can get that pattern one for £125. I want something that's as "bolt on" as possible.

Ebc greenstuff? I've a set waiting to go on the Austin. What do you reckon to them so far?

They seem less squeaky and produce less dust...

If it is to be the keeper that it should be then have a discussion with an exhaust fabrication place and get them to fit exactly what you want.

When I had a bini Cooper S needing a new cat back system it was cheaper to get a custom stainless made than the BMW part. I used https://www.hibexhausts.com/ who are located on Anglesey - you could call in there and get it done on your way (ish) to Shitefest in Shropshire!

I collected the Megane from my neighbour earlier. It now has a new timing belt, tensioner, water pump, alternator belt, and lower engine mount. All for a very reasonable price.

Some sticker shuffling then occurred.

Pre flight checks completed.

It has air in the tyres and fluids in the engine, and just under half a tank of petrol.

I'm not going anywhere until the back of 10, mind.

I love the fact that the most common colour of Duct tape is possibly a colour match for the car...

It cleans up well!

However I think the MOT tester was a Mr S Wonder. That's daylight visible behind the drivers side headlight...

Mine was exactly the same, you could have climbed through the hole there. Rest of the car was fine though. I would have kept it but 2 seats are nae use for me, despite best efforts at scheduling it's usage. Fine cars though, the 2.3 is a great engine.

It's a rather nice thing, cleaned up really well especially the wheels! After I cleaned it up we took it for a burn, sounds nice and drives well too! Would be easy to make it a 10 step car rather than 20 that's for sure!

The red tape is courtesy of a certain red Civic. 😉

It does make me tempted to learn how to weld...

For now it can sit in the corner with the other aging German compact luxury car.

Said in the style of Moss from the IT Crowd in the "I'll put this over here with the other fire" scene.

I don't actually have any silver duct tape. I do have some in hot pink, though...

The last few miles home were great. Roof down, staring at the storm clouds gathering, while listening to Nightmare by Brainbug.

I really enjoyed piloting this back up the road for Moog and looking like a total winner* cruising it to work with the roof down and my head gleamin'

The noise it makes is excellent and the superior quality of the rubber means you get a bit of wheelspin or even a potential Lidl drift when you boot it.

Would deffo consider one for my fleet if I had 1 child or less.

It really does have a lazy auto box, doesn't it?

I had Mr Moog say to me "It really isn't that quick..." when he handed it over.

I disagree. While it is very lazy for the first 3/4 of the pedal travel (it only really kicks down one gear), if I absolutely fucking boot it until the pedal clicks against the kickdown switch... it goes. I got a bit of proper supercharger whine out of it a few times. I daresay it's (whispers) slightly faster than the 323i.

The main issue is that it's only as fast as (or a tiny bit faster than) the 323i if I absolutely kick its head in, due to that laaaaaazy auto box. Otherwise the 323i beats it hands down for actual driveability.

It's also so civilised it's perfectly possible to hold a conversation with the roof down at LOLWHOOPS mph.
