You said you got vented discs 'by accident'... Have trolled through the BayOfFlee for vented type calipers?

Can you not paint 'fixit' gloop onto the clean tank outsides... 🧐

This Is Epic.

I did accidentally buy vented yeah. I can find solid discs which I may yet buy. I'm not really too bothered about swapping to vented. This really won't be going quick enough to worry about it.

Also I may have already got the jb weld out on the tank...

Thanks I will correct that. I just left it as it was when I took it off but that makes sense. I didnt even think about it to be honest!

I've decided the tank is terminal. Not only is it full of holes still despite going through my supply of JB weld but it's leaking from the fuel sender as well as the seam around it and when I took it off the clamping part on the tank just discintegrated.

Anyone know where I can find a tank for an Austin Montego? 😅

You didn't need one when you had the MG Montego Turbo! I had this poster in my bedroom at one point.

A beast of a car.

And who could forget the advert?

That brings back memories of the one my dad had, Dxxx EUE white mg turbo with white wheels he still has the original Philips cassette player in the shed.  Stolen and burnt out at 5 years old sadly.

Excellent work you’re doing on the estate 👌

Couldn't the tank in the Albert looms car be a possible option?....

Not sure this rust bucket is worthy of several hundred pounds of ally race tank! 😂

And what do you think the collective Autoshite answer to that will be!

Could be an option. Is it diesel? I think they had a different tank. Needs to be a lowly carb model either maestro or montego to fit from what I've read.

Surely if it fits in the hole I'm sure it could be made to work. I suppose it's better to have something that nearly works than nothing at all.

Can't be that hard to find a petrol Maestro tank though.  If P.T. Moore in Leominster have one I could collect it and start the Shitley run.

I have managed to find one as of last night! Got to take a trip down to Surrey next week to get it.

I did find an ally race tank too just in case...

Tackled the rear brakes yesterday. I thought the passenger side handbrake cable had snapped. It turned out it was actually the 'intermediate' cable. For some reason the Montego has a handbrake cable split into four sections and one tiny piece of wire had snapped at the compensator. I suppose it makes swapping broken sections easier than doing the whole length but it is a bit more complicated a setup as a result.

The shoes were also seized on the passenger side and the liner had fallen off one of the shoes on the drivers side. I'm awaiting a middle cable to finish the job.

Also both split pins were not split...

So begins the welding...

I won't profess to these welds being pretty and I may be welding to some pretty crap metal but theyre 'MOT standard'. I did find a bit more rot after digging under some filler so the plating went a bit further than I intended.

I definitely didn't just use a pair of pliers to bend round to form a lip...

Unfortunately I ran out of gas hence some of the welds look a bit shit. I wanted to get it tacked in at least until I go get some more tomorrow.

I picked up a fresh bottle of gas on Tuesday afternoon so yesterday I took the day off and did a load of welding.

Finished the wheel arch off which was basically just running seam welds. I may or may not get round to filling and shaping but to be honest @sharley17194 and I don't have many weeks till our road trip and looks are bottom of the agenda Vs. A road legal car!

PXL_20210825_084858839.thumb.jpg.68af72cc79b95ce74f3e508ed116d06e.jpg

Then I did some patches in the passenger rear arch where some holes were.

Then my new wiper blades turned up!

I mean seriously....

Then I found the worst of the rot. The front of the passenger side sill and some of the floor... I was not expecting to do this but when I lifted the carpet to start the sill I was greeted with this.

PXL_20210825_095631253.thumb.jpg.03bc057b017ee70c2597d43360b08c24.jpg

Which soon developed into this...

PXL_20210825_122342984.thumb.jpg.91fed362eb6424c0d3d9f92ffa4a5fea.jpg

Which became this after many many hours of rebuilding the inner, outer and front of the sill.

It's not pretty no. But it's solid.

classic leyland rot, almost as good as ford rot

The only saving grace were the chassis rails being solid which I can't say is normal for all Leyland products! At least it gave me something to work off. Plus the floor was flat so a bit easier to work with.
