When I delete my history on the toolbar (for obvious reasons...morrismarina.com is not appreciated in my house) theres always a couple of bits left in there...a facebook photo of me for instance. How do I get it completely clear?I've got Windows XP if that helps.......I've got no idesa so please be gentle with me....

right click on the bar at the bottom of the screen (the one with the start thingy in), then properties > start menu > customize > clear.Or is that what you're already doing?

Ok, try Control Panel>Network and Internet, go to Internet Options and you will see on the far right a link called "Delete Browsing History and Cookies". A new box will appear and about halfway down it says Browsing History. Click on the 'Delete' button and you can delete cookies, internet history and so on from there.

Cheers chaps, I'll give it a go.....

Aye that website is bloody awful, no content at all, just links to 'Payday Loans' and 'Viagra'.

Top tip: Upgrade your browser to either Firefox, IE8 or Chrome. These all feature 'Private' browsing where you can open a window, look at pictures of Morris Marinas, and then close it again knowing that it hasn't saved any history at all.But in your situation, it sounds like your leftover history bits are files you've opened on the computer itself, not web pages - IE gets clever and keeps reminding you about them. In this case, the startmenu-clear jobbie mentioned should do the trick.

while we are at it, I have (like a numpty retard) managed to get some rubbish onto my computer called "mywebsearch.com" which tries to over-rule google and also tries to direct you to p0rno/spam rubbish. (I aquired it by being a greedy bastard trying to 'win' at facebook games. I am a twat.)How the fucking fuck do I get rid of this evil piece of malware crap??? Ostensibly it looks OK but it pushes loads of crap sites, plus redirects sensible sites to bollocks porn/scam sites. I have tried manually deleting it, using Adaware which claimed to have eradicated it etc, but it keeps coming back. HELP.FailWeasel.

HELP.FailWeasel.

This is what I use:http://www.ccleaner.com/It's free and is excellent. It clears EVERYTHING. It's one of those freeware things that are made for 'the internet community' and is totally safe.

Also:Spybot Search & DestroyKwik rule is don't click on 'sponsored links' in google search as they're usually spam sites. If you go on porn sites, you'll get spam, simple as that (and a fair trade off I suppose!)

Thing is most of these free “removal tools†will just achieve the same thing as manually removing funweb products (of which mywebsearch is one) with add / remove programs. That isn’t enough as it’ll just rebuild itself. If your antivirus isn’t up to date / doesn’t deal with malware properly / is a free download (this is nearly 4 year old adware what are you using?) you need to open up a command prompt and run regedit. From there delete keys and values in the following path: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run\MyWebSearch Email Plugin.Exit regedit.Next explore c:\program files and delete mywebsearch and funwebproducts folders.Empty the recycle bin.It should be gone now, but then I’ve just drunk 4 bottles of Bishops Finger and my alcohol tolerance is down so I may have missed something…Not gone? PM me when I’m sober.

what about a simple check on Start > Run > msconfigand select the "start up" tab and see what dodgy looking programmes are on start-upuntick any that are sapping up ram / cpu on start-up and ones you dont want to run when the computer is starting up A little warning - Dont untick random ones, it can give you undesired effects

This is good advice and a trick I always use when looking at the wizard's sleeves of dubious women!

Free Antivirus is just as good as the paid stuff.... search for AVG Free, Avira, or Microsoft Security Essentials. Install one (not more!) of these and do a full scan. Also install Microsoft Malicious Software Removal Tool, this isn't anti-virus but it does keep a watch for known malware on your system.Note that virus checkers often won't remove malware, as this is software that you installed yourself so isn't really a virus. Vice-versa, Malware removal stuff won't touch viruses, so you need both.Pog, is it not enough that you spam my facebook with how you've found a three-legged goat on your farm, now you're cheating at it too? :)

I find SUPERAntiSpyware is pretty good for shifting things that other spyware tools leave behind. This time last year a friend's computer had a virus that stopped it doing pretty much anything and SUPERAntiSpyware was the only thing that would even detect it.

I run AVG and Superantispyware, suprisingly the avg is better at getting the spyware, but, superantispyware has savd my bacon before when I got the conficker virus where avg failed me!m0rris

When it comes to all things protecty on the computer I can't recommend ESET's NOD32 enough. Fair enough, you have to buy it, but no complaints from me.

Tis like Domestos for computers.

If you've been a bit naughty and got hold of a full activation key then maybe. Out of the box as it were though, many if not most free anti virus programs detect viruses but then invite you to pay to enable full removal features. AVG works like that - there's a couple of foreigners sitting here with AVG installed and exactly that problem.

Install one (not more!)

Too right. Things land on my bench on a daily basis because of this. The system tray extends almost up to the start button and everything grinds to a halt. Usually accompanied by a note saying "please save data". 20 GB of MP3s, mostly on the desktop  This of course is where Linux comes into its own. You can't shaft the registry because there isn't one.

Minimad is quite right. IT is my living and I can confirm malwarebytes is a brilliant program and will get rid of MyWebSearch and all other such nasties - including these rogue anti virus programs. I find some of the poorest programs are the paid for full security suites (Norton springs to mind.)

Well I tried downloading this malwarebytes thing but it either wouldn't download or something nasty is blocking it. I thought that I had got rid of the mywebsearch but it rebuilt itself and has now sucked in a load more shitty malware, latest one is opening pages of pr0n in ie and telling me that any .exe file I try to use to bust it out is corrupt andf the program won't run, not even a command prompt or task manager, they just disappear off screen. SRSLY, if I can't get this machine working again I will be seriously fucked as I have work on it that NEEDS to go out tomorrow, not in 3 weeks after Pillock's boys have prodded it. FUCKSTICKS.

On the laptop (Vista)I use a combination of Avast! Antivirus (free but you have to register), SuperAntispyware(also the free version) and Spybot Search & Destroy, principally for the tools, the Hosts file and the Immunize function, both pretty much the same thing but invaluable. The startup programs tool is brilliant, much less farting around than msconfig. The Activex, Browser helper tools are great and the ability to lock IE and call it stupid names excellent.Of course, SAS will lock IE too to avoid/prevent hijacks.MyWebSearch is indeed a very unwelcome guest though. On the Linux machine, nothing.

Good prog, but beware - has been known to do an HGF-job on 64 bit versions of Windows Vista and Windows 7.Malwarebytes Antimalware is a good app, but misses stuff. Equally, Spybot Search and Destroy misses stuff too, but different stuff. I recommend use one, uninstall it and then use the other to get that dentist-clean feeling. Then, back up you essentials, and reinstall Windows. That's what I do for clients, as it provides some extra reassurance against the recurrence of some nasties. Also, a minty-fresh install runs better.

Boot into SAFE MODE WITH NETWORKING and try downloading it again.

I’ll happily retrieve data for you if you send me the drive and instructions as to what you need from it. Since you’re still posting here I presume you have access to another machine on which to work.As my house is in a state of chaos building wise, I’ve not got access to broadband at the moment so I’d have to physically courier the drive (with data recovered to DVD) back to you rather than stick it up on some free hosting site. The offers there if you need it; I do this sort of thing almost every working day.

The internets is still working on it Found a way to cure it with a registry patch, just trying to find a way to make it a .reg file as textpad won't run!

I can retrieve the data if necessary, it's the programmes installed which is the fucker as I can't get them set up again very easily. My other machine is currently in portugal with a colleague!!!

pweasel.... email/pm me in the morning if you're in a pickle and I'll see if I can do anything over the phone for you.TBH if you send it in and it's software, we'll just blat a fresh install over it - we don't 'do' software.

There ya go Pog, loadza offers from fellow shiters. If you're really stuck, you could pop it across the Irish Sea and I shall bullwhip one of my minions until he sees sense and does my bidding.Doesn't sound like you'll need it, though.
