Pete-M Posted April 28, 2010 Posted April 28, 2010 A lot of the Met's SD1s had Minilites, not sure of the reason but deffo looked cool.Pre-Vitesse SD1s had hopelessly fade-prone brakes once they got hot. IIRC the Met used to fit XJ-S vented front discs which meant that the 14" wheels wouldn't fit... hence the Minilites.
trigger Posted March 9, 2018 Author Posted March 9, 2018 Thread revival! I've just spotted these on Facebook and thought they be worth a share, love the SD1 police cars! Apparently these were the OP's fathers company cars during the 70's - 90's. Jim Bell, Spottedlaurel, cros and 20 others 23
loserone Posted March 9, 2018 Posted March 9, 2018 Cor, I can remember seeing most of those. Last pic is probably from BikeWise. Shame they don't let teenagers loose on the skidpan the day before anymore.. Laseraligningfoofooflanges 1
dean36014 Posted March 9, 2018 Posted March 9, 2018 The stripes on the Volvo estate almost look like fake wood paneling in that picture. I do like a bit of plastic wood
SierraMikeHotel Posted March 9, 2018 Posted March 9, 2018 The Brooklands emergency services day is brilliant fun, highly recommended to anyone who enjoyed this thread (the museum's good, too). Some photos from the couple of times that I've been, in 2013 and 2014. mercrocker, somewhatfoolish, JeeExEll and 5 others 8

SierraMikeHotel Posted March 9, 2018 Posted March 9, 2018 I think the Italians have this one nailed! They do indeed! I remember seeing lots of Alfas liveried as Polizia di Finanza running around on blues when I was there. Imagine the Fraud Squad urgently running to reports of dodgy deals in MGs. Parky 1
2MB Posted March 9, 2018 Posted March 9, 2018 Carabinieri are the coolest police/military force in the world. Red striped trousers, red flash on the car, bellissimo brandersnatch and Parky 2
iainrcz Posted March 9, 2018 Posted March 9, 2018 We went to Naples a few years ago. It seemed all the plod did was drive around in Alfa Romeo 159s, with the windows down wearing mirrored sunglasses and smoking. Any ideas why??

Parky Posted March 10, 2018 Posted March 10, 2018 I love those little films, usually shown at the flicks before the man presentation. Harold Baim was known for making loads of films like this, his film about SS France (narrated by Nicholas Bloody Parsons) is brilliant, as is Telly Savalas with "Birmingham, my kinda town"
Dick Cheeseburger Posted March 10, 2018 Posted March 10, 2018 Great photos, Trigger. You mentioned liking the SD1 - have you seen the build thread of the ex-plod SD1 on the blue? Amazing home resto; the bloke has balls of steel. trigger 1
SierraMikeHotel Posted March 10, 2018 Posted March 10, 2018 Ovlov demo car on loan perhaps? Manufacturers tout them about. I saw a Mustang at our local HQ last summer, with generic Police logos rather than the actual county logo. Now that would be a terrible police car...

JeeExEll Posted March 11, 2018 Posted March 11, 2018 Inverness-reg'd Rangie is still around, currently taxed and MOTd somewhere. Which is good. It's now recorded as being black and is a 3528cc diesel. (!) Wonder if it's rusty at all. Edit, it's DVLA MOT-history contains the word corrosion. And the "nearside front disc is red in colour".Red. Not purple or orange or yellow. Dick Cheeseburger, flat4alfa and Lacquer Peel 3
