N19's fleet - Enfielded

Not a bad show for something quite local. The town centre was much busier than a usual Sunday as a result I think. Being only 5 minutes walk from home I took the car up, had a wander around, got lunch, popped home for a bit, then came back later on for another hour or so of wandering and chatting before going home.

There was a pristine 3.0S Capri which I had a nosey at and chat with the owner, nice to compare.

Allegro - not sure if this is one from THE local allegro owner or not - he has about 4!

Enfield next weekend, which is a much bigger event, a proper all day one.

Love the Rothmans & the graphic in the Capri! Could almost be a 70`s fag advert!

Don't think that is one of the local Allegro bothers ones, unless he`s been hiding it in a lockup.. (Apparently he has a Victor 101 estate in his garage, which has been in there for about 4 decades).

I recall a picture I think that was yours in the car park at Enfield (which would have been 2019 I think) and I had it in the show in 2022.

I need to dig out the 'beauty rings' although I only have 3 at the moment.

Back in the day most of us only had three…….  My Cavalier Sports Hatch was usually missing one.  Never knew if they got pinched or fell off.

In my days of Dolomite daily driving I managed to deposit three of the bloody things across the Aberdeenshire countryside. I recovered one which flew off on a roundabout in Aberdeen but only after it'd been flattened by a bus...

Some auto jumble purchases made and one already fitted.

Have you got the little plastic insert strip for them?

The volvo next door... sorry I know nothing about them!

Black strips are somewhere in the great "filing system"...

Loved this Hunter. Same owner since 1983 and all kerbside repairs.

The autojumble was useful as ever, with various bits and pieces bought, all of which are useful spares to have. The earth cable on mine is a bit manky, the door winders were gone etc. Prices reasonable, and the sort of odd bits which otherwise might be expensive and take a long time to source.  OMGNOSOSF!!!1. Also got some quality fresh fuel hose and clamps which will go onto the capri soon.

With the Hunter - I think the owner is having a quiet joke?

The Hillman Hunter was rebranded as the Chrysler Hunter in the UK market only in September 1976, receiving then a four headlight treatment - this was then restyled briefly again with the front clip seen here - before production ceased in 1979.

Late cars were built at Linwood to free up Ryton for assembly of the Alpine.

(I think I've got that right - the Rootes - Chrysler mash-up is a right mess to follow)

Great car great story. Body looks like it will need some love soonish though.

This shape saloon lived on until 2005 in Iran as the Paykan - and the Bardo 1600 - a pick-up version of the Paykan continued as the sole variant until May 2015 - 49 years after the launch of the original range.

Final set of photos above. Attendance was pretty poor. The weather was bleak in the morning which probably put some off, some traders were packing up by 2pm already and exhibitors leaving, which I can't help but feel becomes a self fulfilling prophecy.

In Central London it brightened considerably in the afternoon - a lot of rain was forecast - but little fell. We even had a bit of sun in the afternoon.

Was raining at dawn - maybe that put people off.

I've been a few years - the flat park is not a particularly attractive location.

Pity. Saturday is also an odd day in London. Sunday might be better. London is pretty quiet atm - a lot of people are away for the weekend.

It's been discussed a lot elsewhere but £12.50 to get in seems steep to me to attend an outdoor car show. Thought I do recognise it probably cost a lot to put on.

I expect the Council charge for the park.

It does feel that it's the same stuff each year, I'll give you that. Used to go onto the Monday as well before covid.

I was chatting to one of the stewards who was lamenting that the average age was too high and volunteer numbers were waning. The fact that they only open once a month on a weekend can't help, as a few hours on a Tuesday lunchtime aren't much use to most working people.

We went today, took the wife and met up with my Niece and her fella who is keen on all things motoring and works in wheel refurbing.
Yes the shows not as big as when I went in the 90’s, but still found it enjoyable, the rain had just about blown over as we arrived a bit after 9am which just left a few clouds hiding the sun now and then.  Had a good root amongst the jumble, picked up a few spanners, a plumbing tap back nut spanner, to replace my 42year old well worn one, and a set of caravan towing mirrors.  £28 spent in total.  Spent more on coffees, lunch and ice creams for the wife and I.
The nephew bought a genuine pair of mole grips and a tap n die set for a total of £30, so again worth the visit.  Nice to have the day with them too, and he’s agrred to come over tomorrow to help pull the dash out of my T4 moho to make a start on fitting the AC kit to it.

I did replace the fuel line with brand new R9 including new fuel line clamps, btw. Routing always a bit hairy on pinto engines right next to the dizzy. Have a few other odd jobs to get done using bits purchased!

Thing is, a lot of the 20-50yo crew are into 80`s & 90`s "retro`s", & take umbrage to paying Mr Khan the £12.50 ULEZ fee for the privilege** of driving a mile into the zone..

He also had this as a daily, till ULEZ forced him to sell it..
