The grumpy thread

It was possibly more due to my massive moody than awful driving, but there were a couple of irritating slowing down/slamming on/pulling in to wait for mates going on.

Couldn't believe the numbers there though, look mega impressive.

It was a busy old day, that's for sure.

Ruined Sunday - lost 3hrs I should've been in the garage as the only white van man in Belgium to work Sundays was on the phone in front of me........ Sat at the lights round the corner from me...... all green - not a sausage of momentum..... They aren't the longest switch so we missed that one. I growl but sit and wait for next time...... again, not a sniff of progression. I hit the horn (very briefly I may add), still nothing.

I jumped out to see if he had an actual problem, thoughts of heart attacks or siezures running through my head.... nope - on the FUCKING PHONE!!! TWATWAD

Stuck to English (French the default around here) and in no uncertain terms told him to hang up and move his fat ignorant arse..... which he did after a lot of grumbling.

Gesticulating all the way down the hill, he then goes straight through the red (trying to make up the lost 5mins at 'my' lights I suppose) and promptly t-bones the local bus........... the 12 sandwich eating fat useless excuse for a lard arse was, of course, on the phone again! I politely told the person on the other end I was holding the phone until the police arrived as his friend was now responsible for serious damage and lot of injuries..........

Hours with plod - statements done and awaiting call if needed as a witness in the future........ now have to improve my French to include legalise terms - deep joy

Yup & even if the hub (or whatever) is good at picking a free channel it doesn't know if there is interference in another part of your house that stops things working.

This is driving me mad in the shared house I live in. Housemate has a printer which he won't cable in and it keeps nicking my IP address.

I think we covered this before. Set either your computer or the printer to use a static address so they don't overlap (or figure out why the DHCP isn't working properly in the first place).

Also, IP address conflicts are nothing to do with signal interference from similar frequencies.

Sorry, probably not helping your mood.

I changed the address to a static IP and it keeps occurring.

Bafflement ensues.

I know it sounds really trite but the only way to get through it is to Think Dory. In other words "just keep swimming". Take life one challenge at a time. Make it through today. And then make it through today again. And so on.

I know you've struggled with depression for some time, are you seeing a doctor? Are you currently on medication?

No doctors as they only want to drug me up. Enough meds aa it is. Ive been ticking along one day at a time for a while now but today ive realised cant do it anymore.tried counselling too but i cant sit in front o1f stramgers as they are so patronising. Its getting dark and thats what scares me and most folk know i dint get scared easy

Login t'router & find an IP outside of the DHCP scope. If it still happens the then the only thing I can think of is your lappy or the printer has a duplicated MAC (which should never happen, but chinese companies etc).

Are you working/ at work at the moment Bub? Find something to distract you from your thoughts. Music. Or a film. Or a book. Or go out for a work walk. Find something to do. Don't stew in your negative thoughts

edit: work=walk.

DHCP doesn't give out duplicate IP addresses, it just doesn't...so has your housemate given his printer a static IP that's within the DHCP range?  The only other explanation would be if there were two devices giving out DHCP in the same subnet - eg if there were two routers or a router and an access point - in which case one of them needs DHCP disabling.

Do you have access to the router?  If so go in and exclude that address from DHCP meaning it'll be forced to give your device a new one, or find out what the DHCP range is - eg 192.168.1.64-192.168.1.253 and give your machine an address that's outside of it - eg 192.168.1.30 (.1 and .254 are quite often the routers address so don't use those)

Make sure its within the same subnet though, typically home routers tend to use 192.168.0.x or 192.168.1.x with a 24 bit subnet mask (255.255.255.0) so look at what you are getting now make sure the address you choose has the same first 3 octets - it you get 192.168.0.x then the address you choose must begin 192.168.0. and so on.

Had a funny old Sunday......sort of grumpy sort of grin really

Took the dog out early as usual but the park was still locked....supposed to open at 7 and this was about 7.45. Walked around to another gate......also locked. Another regular walker drove around all the gates and all locked. Bit of a bugger as only park in area that is fenced in so dogs can't do a runner.

Walked home and decided to go back with bolt croppers in the truck.

Snipped lock off just as a bloke walked up behind me.

What you do that for he said.

Because locked (about 8.30 by now) I reply

I'm a police officer and I'm going to report you says the bloke

OK says me........no point in trying to do a runner in the truck and I've got a bright yellow shirt on (so prob fashion crime as well)

Arrive back at truck about 40 mins later..........

Amazing police response time!

Never let it be said they don't bother......when the chips are down they are on the ball!

Mind you they couldn't find me.........I was in the fenced off dog area.....and no doubt they were told I had a dog.

So tomorrow morning I've got to go in and help with their enquiries.

And yes I do know I am idiot btw

NEW ISSUE:

"Yes I want [name of thing] but I want you to bring it to my door for free. What do you mean 'No'? I'm a buyer! I deserve to be taken seriously!"

"Well, why can't I have [extensive list of spares] for free?"

I'm getting more and more of this recently and I'd like to know when this fucked up sense of entitlement became a common thing, because it's yet another thing I've missed.

They reckon they will most likely 'deal' with me by a 302 or something where I have to apologise and buy a new lock or something. I'm not going to volunteer for a load of shit but that seems fair enough.

I did have some fun with the on site q&a..........he asked me if I knew who the land belonged to and I said I part owned it (because council) and he took me seriously!

Silly boy.

Daft question though - why wasn't the park open? Could you not have just lifted el doggo over, tied their lead to the railing and then hopped over the fence yourself?

Bloke slept in..........arrived while I was being processed........about 2 hours late

Fence is high and not easy to climb........especially if trying to hold a dog!

To be fair you got aff lightly - folks who try to cut through Princes St Gardens in Edinburgh when locked usually end up with a spike in their foot..

sorry fella, I know how this feels. I am also off the meds, I can do better without them!

roller coaster is on a long downhill section for me, been like it for weeks now. Wish I could snap out of it, no easy answers.

I have found drinking a pint of water every hour does help stabilise the mood and relax me. I do piss like a donkey mind!

are you dwelling on the past or worrying about the future?

dwelling on past is possibly the most futile thing the human mind can do to punish a chap! and your mind is a facking expert at bringing you down.. If it has happened then it is done and dusted, there is fack all I can do about it I tell myself.

worrying about the future, different kettle of fish, I have to suss out the best and worst case for what ever it is I am worrying about. For the worst case establish an exit plan. Write it down helps me.

talking doesn't help me at all, makes me feel stupid and embarrassed after the event and subsequently brings my mood down

Music can help as can TV, anything to engage me and disrupt the chain of thought. As soon as I start to feel OK I have to get out and do something, anything. Reading my Range Rover resto thread end to end helps me, I like to fix stuff and that is fixing stuff, it reminds me of the high spots.

I really should stay away from caffeine and booze, both temporary stimulants that have a big drop on the other side if you get my drift.

Like I said no easy answers

Bubs as a fellow depression sufferer i feel for you. I've tried the counselling, no good, cpt courses, load of rubbish, tried it on my own, nope rapidly downhill. Finally I agreed to go back on meds, tried a different tablet and this one suits me. i don't feel alien, unfeeling, uncaring. I function great, life is seriously on the up. Got my life in order and deal with the hiccups as they come. I'm also on shit loads of tablets due to my worn out spine and resisted taking anymore, now I wish i'd gone back on them earlier. Maybe I'm lucky that my GP has spent the time with me to find something that suits me, I fully accept now that I'll likely be on them forever. So don't discount the meds mate, but always remember that you have a good crowd of friends on here and a problem shared etc etc.

Its a combination i think of the shit that has happened re running in my head and the shitstorm i know is coming that i know i cant stop. Also feeling tired and run down isnt helping, tired of fighting too.

Get a bicycle and do a vigorous hour on it in the morning, I always feel much better generally when I get into a routine of this. Less tired, and less generally fucked off with the dogs breakfast I have made of my life

Bit tricky with the hours i do at work. Start around 6am and finish at 1030 pm obviously with breaks in between. Also thw bike is one thing up for sale! I love going fishing. Great for relaxing and casting thoughts away but hours at work limit that too.

I just found out my non-fault insurance claim will be 'open' during the entire payback period that'll come about as a result of the other driver being uninsured (or having his policy cancelled) at the time of the incidident and consequently having to arrange a payment plan to get what is likely to be approaching four figures paid back to my insurers.

If I win the Safrane roffle the conversation will be mightly interesting.
