Entrepreneur: How do we get more people to pay for our stuff?

Jaded Success: Dumb it down. WAY down.

I did come across the argument that by providing a few single figure IQ stories people would be inclined to read the proper, more interesting news. I have never seen evidence of this actually happening.

Becos im being medically evacuated back to Scotland..ive got to sell my 300D which is heartbreaking..but i have to be realistic...and carless for quite a while...tears of an Autoshite clown...

"Medical evacuation"? Surely a 10000 mile trip must be the last thing your system needs if you aren't feeling very well.

Good luck mate, drop as all an e-card (message on here) when you're back in Blighty. Are you going back NZ when you're well again?

Sorry, wrong country

My grump? I've just spent 30 fucking minutes trying to make someone understand a postcode. Every bastarding time they got back to me they said a different road and no matter how much I tried to explain, they're clearly too simple to understand. Must have sent them the postcode 8 times and they are still asking for it. the last one was 'well, I have a sat nav but I need an address'.

Fuck it, I am not that desperate to sell a second hand pushbike.

What makes me grumpy this morning is that there's a 'news' story doing the rounds about how a Kate Middleton look-alike is pregnant. This complete non-event annoys me on many levels. I'm completely unbothered by whether the real Kate is pregnant or not - it wouldn't surprise me as she's a woman, and that's the sort of thing they can often do. What she does is up to her, though I despise the way the press bleat on about it as if nothing else is happening in the world. Get over it.

But to follow it up with a story about how someone who looks a bit like her is pregnant is taking the fuggin' biscuit. WHY IS THAT NEWS? They'll no doubt be following it up with "Pope look-alike wears silly hat." My conclusion is that news is all bollocks.

If the baby gets called Diana the Daily Mail will quite literally explode in on itself.

My grump is housing. I'm fed up of where I live, fed up of sharing a kitchen with people who can't be bothered to clean up, fed up of my post being stolen and fed up of having no space. Went with a friend to look at the house they were buying and have to admit to being slightly jealous, since there is simply no way I'll ever be able to afford a place by myself. Even the rented properties are too expensive, and it will be very hard to find one that has off road parking but also allows pets. As they like to remind me, my parents had a mortgage, were married and had me when they were my age. I'm stuck my myself in a crappy room.

^^^ I know it doesn't help your situation, but a gentle reminder that the previous generation's avarice has resulted in the current housing crisis may (or may not) S-Them-TFU. If the previous generation hadn't bought all the council houses and then believed the myth that house prices would always increase, I don't think there would be this problem.

Best of luck Rab, and NC. None of it's easy, is it? I've been within shouting distance of both those positions and I know they're no fun. My sympathy isn't going to help either of you but you're welcome to some anyway.

Unless you're likely to get a major promotion/salary increase anytime soon, I'd be looking for jobs oop norf. I don't think wages are any lower here than in the SW, and moving anywhere North of, say, Coventry should mean a real reduction in your housing costs (i.e. the ability to get a house/flat by yourself), together with cheaper services (e.g. garages, pubs) and, amazingly, even the supermarkets can be cheaper up here (there are quite a few regional chavvy hard-discounters like Home Bargains and Fultons Foods).

To be honest I'm not bothered about owning a house, and since I'll never afford it it's not something I've ever even considered. I feel the fact I can't afford a better rented place is less to do with people buying council houses and more to do with me not being able to find a decent job or partner like everyone else my age did years ago

^^^ What he said.

Best of luck for the journey Rab, if you are ever passing by the Midlands, give us a shout, I think it was you who told that your Mum went to Syria some time back? I never got go when I had the chance so would love to hear the stories.

NC - Best of luck mate for the future. I know its not easy, but I'm sure there are other rooms out there. Stick a wanted advert somewhere, seek new rooms and go and have a look at a few rooms or properties you think you might be able to afford, make the first step, you may stumble across something you like. Similarly when I found myself out of work, I made the first step, rung around as many agencies as I could find and found myself in work the next week. Not quite the same situation but shows you can change your situation.

I live not far away from Mr Creep, I'm in the same county and am currently saving every penny (see veg oil car thread) to do exactly what you suggest.

I quite fancy Lancashire as much of my family is from there. As long as I don't go to Blackburn obviously.

Just need to see how things go with a new lady friend before I make any definite plans.

'Housing costs' include renting. I'm paying £485 for a large 2-bed flat right in the middle of the 4th biggest city in England. You can find perfectly acceptable 2-bed houses in smaller places like Halifax or Coalville for £350 or so (and even less if you go to a shithole like Hull or Bradford, but that'd kinda defeat the point).

Finding a good job or a partner are things that I'm constantly failing at, so I have no constructive opinion to offer. :P

I'm not a violent person, but bedshit land drove me to despair. I had about three years of it I think and it drove me mental. I'd nearly run out of knobheads to get by the throat at 3.00am, or plasterboard 'walls' to stick my fist through.

LS is bang on, find somewhere else and see what happens.

Hey Negative creep how flexible are you to travel? I work in Slough (pointless into: but live in Essex) and my shift partner lives in Plymouth; he travels up on the sleeper train/125 as required - worth investigating work in The Thames Valley corridor/London?

See if any of these are any good? Are you in that industry still indirectly, half a brain and you should scythe through the ranks sharpish, not forgetting free travel to work (unlike us at Network Rail since1997).
