The fenlanders journey from the Doctor to myself

Ok folks, as known I am the lucky winner of the fenlander. My first reaction was obviously FUCK. I've now decided it's a good FUCK. The first leg of its journey, near enough 200 miles is now arranged thanks to Rob88h. It will be collected from The Doc the beginning of next week and driven to Doncaster. Now Domcaster is doable for me in one day for me, either if my son is available we travel down in the forum bike bora, if he is not available then I travel down in the hilux with the trailer, or possibly even the bora and trailer. The bora would use much less fuel than the hilux, but the rover and trailer is probably over the towing weight of the bora. I dont want to take any chances so I will look up the towing weights before I decide. Unless of course anyone can take it from Doncaster farther north say wed or thursday next week, or between Christmas and new year. It is arranged that it will be full of diesel before it leaves its present home. Any offers of a farther north relay, or a lift south for me will be made most welcome. And I suppose the Doctor will have to kick off with the pez shot, and fuck knows who will do the first poo!

You'll just have to make damn sure you get a decent Woolard then won't you? 😂

If the current situation wasn't still ongoing with Covid I'd totally offer to deliver...We must have virtually walked past each other several times but never actually met!

That's true Zel. Its arranged to get to doncaster now anyway. If I had been coming right down for it I would have quite possibly swung in for a cuppa and a look at your fleet. But it's with this covid shit that I dont really want to be on public transport. Driving to doncaster and back is just doable for me, I think it's less distance than I did to Bolton a few months ago for the bora. So the plan is for me to ask(tell) my wayward son he is driving me down in said bora, or I will hitch the trailer on the hilux and use about a thousand gallons of diesel towing lol. Hoping tt will average 20mpg towing which will mean 40 gallons whatever that will cost for 800 miles.actually it does that towing with a car on the trailer, so empty will be less. It will ba a long day but worth it. Shaun in the bora will be cheaper tho lol

First snag.

Attempting to put the original back box back on. Managed to split it.

I don't know if I meant to hit "like" there or some sort of "oh no's".

Is it a structural problem or are there enough other hangers that mean this would stay on the car? The gas doesn't need to stay in as far as I'm concerned. Maybe some sort of wire belt style temporary fix? What could possibleye go wrong...

Oh, it's no problem, I've just put the cherry bomb back on. It just means it will be a bit loud on the journey...

The cherry bomb will just alert the good folk of Banff and Macduff to when their pizzas are arriving

Is it even possible for any exhaust note to be heard over a mighty XUD rattle??

It definitely looks a lot better now than when I first got it!

I forgot to do a fuel station shot, so here is a couple of pics from when I got back from my last drive...

I'm looking forward to getting this now. I know the pics probably flatter it, but it looks ok. I did own a 216 back in the day, it was 3 door in british racing green which I bought brand new in January 93. The only reason I changed it was an expanding family and it got changed for a Nissan serena people carrier. I'm not expecting a 218d to be as nice as the long gone 216, as it was a gti!

Makes me feel quite nostalgic too, we had a 416 sli(?) back in the days, very nice car with a power-sapping autobox.  I remember struggling to get petrol into it well... Some sort of airlock in the saloon's longer filler pipe or something?  Had to stand there rocking it until it burped!

We're not a million miles apart then Davie, you might well pass through Ballindalloch on your epic odyssey!  Chodspeed!

And another well done to the Doc, car looks (and sounds) many, many times better than it did!

Dont know what is happening with this now. The border is closed. I wonder? Could it get driven to the layby on the border on the A1 at Berwick upon Tweed. If it got taken there and I was waiting for it with the hilux in Scotland and the trailer in England and whoever took it to there drove it on the trailer then went back in the english direction, I drive forward 20 feet, then I can tie the rover down, and noone has crossed the border. Job done lol.

When I bade in Portsoy, which is 10 miles west of Macduff where I am now, when I was going farther south of Perth I would have always gone to Aviemore and then down the A9. That was quicker than going the east coast to Aberdeen, Dundee then Perth. However those 10 miles made a difference when I moved here 8 years ago, and now with the Aberdeen bypass opened it's far, far quicker to go the Aberdeen way. So I would very rarely pass Ballindalloch now. Although I did when going south for the bora, but then I left from my son in laws in Elgin.

Yes, I don't know my way around out there very well... I'm never further east than Buckie.

Well I have no idea how this is going to happen now. Travel bans, lockdowns, border closures, xmas, newyear, winter, just about everything else getting in the way of it. I hate this time of year with a passion, and am right now heading for a meltdown. All because of a fucking virus that everyone has a less than 1% chance of getting, and the solutions to it are now, in my opinion only, causing many more problems than the virus has done.

I was wondering how this was going to happen with the new restrictions but didn't like to jinx it. Hopefully you guys can work out a plan between you.

I've been busy today, was into Aberdeen with my daughter doind the last of the xmas shopping. Aberdeen is 45 mines distant, but Aberdeen city and shire although two different councils we are lumped together as far as covid is concerned. I am now thinking what I want to do, I actually do want this car, a R8 was on my shopping list for an old car to own.

Cart on and get it done (provided you want to). Im married to a serving copper, and believe me if anyone thinks even 1% of this shite is being policed then they need their bumps felt. No one will stop you, and if they do then you need a car for transport (classed as essential) so you bought one and need to get it home. Take food, piss in a Bush and don't go in any services. So no contact with other people and no chance of infection. Bingo. You'll be sound 👍

I would if I could. I am unable to drive for 1200 miles near enough non stop nowadays or else I would. My own health wouldn't let that work. That's why getting it taken further north was and is important for me. Flying down is about the only way that would work for me to do it personally.

Maybe let the dust settle over Xmas and then see how the land lies?

This is on hold just now to see what happens. I do want the car and The Doc is ok for just now hanging on to it for the meantime.

A new plan is being considered and a collection may take part soon, not by me but it will be 200 miles farther north, which will make it more accessible for me.
