No offence doc ?

It does look massively better with the repainted wheels. And not an inch of hazard tape in sight!

I R dizapunt!  I opened this thread expecting to see a 1950s Canadian-market Mercury!

I'd clean forgotten the name was used by Citroen much later.  Still, good save, preserving any car is always right, and although it's been many a year, I did enjoy the few drives I had in BXs.

Good to see it stay within a community who'll keep it going nevertheless.  And the wheels to look a bit better given the recent lick of paint.

Good luck with it :)

Ace, I know how much you wanted it so it’s great to see you finally get your hands on it!

Hopefully you’ll love it as much as I love your old Saab though that’ll be near impossible ;)

A pleasant sunny trip to Sussex this morning to an old Citroen garage, came away with a windscreen wiper spray bar and a gaiter for the rear suspension, both parts packaged original Citroen, alas there was no window regulator for the drivers door, the search continues,i am hoping that the specialist where the car is going next week has one--fingers crossed.

Collected the BX from the specialist today after he had fettled it and checked it over for MOT in a few weeks time. Work done included--sort out the front brake pads which had been incorrectly fitted, brakes are loads better now. Reroute the throttle cable and adjust the pedal which has made it more comfortable for my foot. Renew the fuel filter as the old one was cruddy. Fit a new gaiter to the rear suspension cylinder. Fit a new wiper blade and spray bar. And best of all,fit a new window regulator and motor to the drivers side front---HOORAY!!

Work to do before MOT--Needs welding to the rear chassis rails/boot floor area which means lowering the subframe, needs a new gaiter on the other rear suspension cylinder.

A lovely comfortable drive home??

I went to start the BX yesterday morning using the usual procedure--turn key, wait for glow plugs to go out then turn key further to engage starter,it didn't catch the first time so i repeated the procedure only to get a half hearted attemp from the battery and clouds of acrid smoke from behind the dashboard!!!! Jumped out and a quick disconnect of the battery followed by much swearing. The general but sweeping concenus is it is either the battery, the starter motor or the ignition switch,in my wisdom i don't think it is the battery as surely that wouldn't cause the smoke in the dashboard effect? Anyway it now stands in shame on the drive awaiting somebody who knows more than me about the problem. Ungrateful BX!

Has to be ignition surely? When my BX (albeit a 14) burnt out its ignition it produced the same dense smoke from the dashboard.

When I had smoke from the dashboard, it was the heater blower motor burning itself out.

Chompy snake bought a xantia from me that bleached black smoke from dash and that turned out to be fan motor too.

Well it left me stranded yesterday with starter motor failure so i guess that was the problem,it's back home now whilst i search for another starter motor.

I have the starter from the 305 van with the 1905 xud engine and also have another spare starter, if it's the same your welcome to it.
