Taste is subjective but I'm not a fan of the Lockwood dials.

Back when I had an 89 Eunos I used to lust after the KG Works jobbies from Japan, proper hens teeth jobs though!

A close second best would be some of Revlimiter's dials from the states, pricey, but very nice indeed...

Good lord, those Revlimiter ones are beautiful! I can see my Fiat getting some...

Undertray - it had one but it was cracked and the garage restoring it lobbed it “we never use them on the MX5 cup cars we prep”.

PAS - It’ll be the fluid level, easy to check. The original PAS cooler return pipe was leaking (c.10 years ago)  so it got replaced with a length of fuel hose which was about £200 cheaper than the Mazda price, as I recall.

The PAS cooler is just a length of 10mm pipe, something that you could easily knock up yourself

this one is off my donor car, but will come in handy when the one on the other mx5 eventually bursts, they all do eventually :(  you're welcome to use it as a template though

fitting is a bit of a faff, much easier with the radiator removed, I'm quite good at doing that bit :)

low fluid or air in the system would give lumpy steering but wouldn't explain why the wheel is not centred - did you have any spins or offs on track that might have bent something ? might be worth booking an alignment along at AK automotive, they'll sort it out for you. You've probably boiled the pas fluid and it's overflowed, is your reservoir all sticky where it has spilled over ?

Also since theast track day, the steering wheel has been at this jaunty angle when I'm driving it. It still tracks and brakes straight.

Could hammered tyres be the issue or is it something more sinister.

I'm not sure if it's related but the power steering is notchy/pulsing for the first twenty yards or so. Engine speed irrelevant.

De-power it - sorted. Or I have a spare manual rack in the garage...

For a daily MX5, I'd probably keep it though, but for a fast/fun toy, non-powered is way better imo. It's only noticeable when parking but it's not awful.

The power steering fluid has always been fine. Maybe a belt needs adjusting? It only does it when pulling away from cold and is fine for the rest of the day.

I didn't spin or hit anything last time out. I'm going to swap the tyres over or wi I be wasting my time?

I'm just going to live with it for now.

We were at the Kings Arms Seaton Sluice on the 10th of December last  year for my mother's 69th birthday. I got talking to my father in law about his chrysler. He had rang a scrap man to collect it on the following Monday and they'd offered him £275 for it. You mad bastard I'll have it and a deal was done and it became mine. Not much of a deal as he won't accept any money for it.

It hadn't ran for a year so I took a fresh battery and my jump pack and the fucker still wouldn't start. All the lights and everything on but just nothing when I turned the key. I suspected immobiliser so I had it recovered to the garage I use in North Shields form Whitley Bay where my fil lives. It cost me £30 for delivery which I thought was a bargain. This was just before Christmas.

Anyway the guy in the garage bought a new battery and did a sequence with the key or some shit and it fired right up. Unfortunately the abs light was on so I left it with him and told him to mot it too. No hurry I said we've another car. It's still there and hasn't moved since. I think he's taking the piss a bit now and I'm calling in to see him today at some point and find out what the crack is. I'm itching to have a blast.

It's a 3.0 v6 merc diesel with 200 and odd bhp, it should be a nice drive. It seems to be well specced with sat nav etc although that could be standard across the range. I no nothing of these whatsoever.

It's been Bentleyfied before he bought it with all the badges and a massive chrome grille. Tinted windows too for the full on drug dealer experience.

Can anyone gen me up?

That's fil's house in the background. A proper Mr. Trebus. It's the biggest house in the street (Davison Avenue) and is quite run down. It's got a lovely double garage where he keeps his trike that he made (reliant based) and his XJ12 with a 2.7 terrano diesel engine he fitted for economy. The house is massive with a swimming pool but the house is that full of shit we can't actually use it. He's a lovely bloke but the neighbours must hate him. He's running an 02 s80 volvo which is the biggest shed I've ever drove. He bought that to replace a perodua nippa 🤣

When did they make a motorway from Scotch Corner to Tebay.? It wasn’t there last week!

Posted

The Bentley's in actually quite good shape with no dents or scrapes worth noting although the window rubbers etc are covered with moss etc. I can't wait to start cleaning it.

It's so far cost me £150 with transport and a new battery. I can't really lose providing the abs doesn't cost tons to sort.

A66 that like. it must be confused.

The Bentler looks like a proper barg. Your FIL sounds like he needs an entry ticket for this place too. One thing though, what was wrong with the car that made him plan to have it weighed in?

Sounds he'd fit right in here.

It wouldn't start. He thought it was terminal. He swapped batteries with his volvo, charged them and fucked about but it still wouldn't start.

A quick look on the mot history and it hasn't done any miles since the last pass. It only ran out in December.

I've joined a 300c group on fb. This looks like a decent mod. I wonder if it's cheap?

I've always kind of fancied a 300C with the 5.7l Hemi.  At the same time, I wouldn't actually want to spend my own money on one.  What's it like inside, as plasticky as I imagine, or a nice place to be?

It's not as bad as I thought it was going to be. You can tell it's not European or Japanese. It's 100% yank.

In other news I walked down the garage and the guy was busy welding up an '02 avensis. I asked him about the chrysler and he said he's chasing a wiring fault for the abs and tc. Exactly what he told me five weeks ago. He reckoned he spent a couple of hours on it last week. Funny as it hasn't moved from outside where it's parked in about six weeks. I mentioned we're struggling as my mother keeps lending the pug and he offered me a '10 meriva for a loan as long as I want. No thanks. He started going on about prioritising and other peoples cars etc. I said you've had it eight weeks man why not prioritise that ffs. He just mumbled on and I waked away.

It's the fourth time I've chased it up and I think he's taking the piss. I'll give him a fortnight and if it's not sorted, I'll collect it and take it somewhere else. Bit of a shame as I struck up a rapport with him.

A common issue with the Mercedes 3 litre V6 om642 diesel engine is oil cooler seal leaks. The seals do not cost much but it is meant to be a 10 hour job to replace them.
