I took this to Duncan the Rover chap in Whitburn today to have the brake lines replaced.

The 2 hard lines in the front wheelarches were borderline but would have lasted until the next MOT. There was an advisory for the lines at the fuel tank area however so in the interests of good maintenance I had the whole lot replaced.

Duncan said the fronts were not too bad but the lines above the tank were rotten so I took the right action. He also freed off the NSR caliper however we both agreed it will possibly  seize again (just like the front one did).

He also checked for any leaks at the front but everything was dry, even the undertray. I now suspect it was oily water blowing off a floor mat that I put under the Corsa to catch an oil leak. The staining is now gone after heavy rain.

According to Duncan the car runs like a Swiss watch, one of the best he has driven out of hundereds so that's also a clean bill of health.

Not a bad day off work, interspersed with a meal at my favourite Chinese restaurant for lunch!

Spurred on by the complete lack of success with the Mini today, I treated this to a polish and wax.

I used some Poorboy's Black Hole which is described as a 'Show Glaze', whatever that is. All the way through I just kept thinking about Shoegaze music and that I couldn't place a relevant song or artist.

Anyway, it's a clean old bus, I'd like to get the front bumper painted though.

I also applied some Vactan and then stone hip to the rear arch wells for good measure.

Some would say it's dead, I say it's incredibly relaxing to drive, right to the point where the remap means that you can keep out the way of most tailgaters on A roads and slip roads.

It was on car boot sale duty this morning and even though it's a saloon, it accommodated all my tat. There is a factory 'subwoofer' in the boot underneath the rear window which is a bit restrictive however I'm not in the habit of carrying a lot of stuff.

After the heavy rain last night I checked the carpets, especially on the passenger side. All nice and dry so I hope that was indeed the cause of the water ingress.

I wasn't happy with the polishing job I did last time so went back to Autoglym SRP like I have used for decades and waxed it again too. No streaks or flat spots now.

A while ago I asked on the 75 FB  page if Heko wind deflectors were a good idea or not. I have had several cars with them fitted and they worked well.

The consensus from just a few replies was yes so I bought a set and fitted them today.

They look nice.....

.....but I'm less than happy with the driver's door one. It's a really bad fit, so much so that the tab at the top end broke off the first time the window closed.

You can see how the passenger one fits properly.

I went back into the 75 page and asked if anybody had ever had problems and lots of people replied saying they were terrible, made lots of wind noise and they had removed them.

Never was there a better time to use the phrase "Thanks for that!".

I'll probably take them off.

Otherwise going well.

I think wind deflectors have only ever been better than going without when smoking in the car. 

 

Even then the vacuum sucks the ash into the back seat.

I haven't updated this in a while, a few jobs have since cropped up .

First is the sticking rear caliper. It was only a slight bind and nothing was getting really hot or dragging but the previous freeing off had only lasted a short time.

However a much bigger problem arose yesterday, I couldn't get the wheel bolts off. Even my Clarke mains impact gun wouldn't touch them. I now rate it as shite as it's failed every task I have set it thus far.

The garage who fitted the brake lines must have tightened the bolts with an impact gun.

This would also be a problem for the 2 front tyres I wanted to have fitted. I have form at my local tyre place for bringing cars in with a similar issue (Audi) and their equipment wasn't up to the job. That was of course my fault.

Thankfully I had taken off my ill-fitting wind deflectors a few weeks before and given them away to another local 75 owner because a couple of the tabs were broken, so the same gent offered to come round with a 4 foot scaffolding tube to remove them. 

The only way to get a right angle was to use an old ratchet which he had also brought. I stupidly didn't use my short extension and badly scraped my wheel in the first go:

After that I was able to remove the rest but 2 of the bolts quite easily, until the teeth on the old ratchet gave up. The chap had it rebuilt as soon as he got home however! The wheel with the 2 remaining stuck bolts doesn't need to come off any time soon.

I cracked on with the NSR caliper today.

Nothing is really rusty in this car so the hose and the guide pins came out easily.

Worst condition piston I have ever seen:

Pads are passable. I cleaned up the tabs and carriers.

Guide pins are good, a quick Emery and application of red rubber grease.

I leave everything else alone as far as grease goes as I think it just attracts dirt.

Rear arms are all new but you can see here how crud builds up in this channel.

Build back up....

...and bleed. I didn't have an argument with the Eazibleed today. Good pedal and stopping achieved.

Tightened up all the other wheels bolts to a more palatable level.

New tyres in the next few weeks.

It has also developed a leak into the boot from the NS rear light seal, new one on order.

I fitted the new rear light seal last week but the boot floor was still wet. There was actually a small puddle in the wheel well this time.

Thankfully I traced it to 2 vents inside the boot, one is behind some sort of booster for the sound system.

Unfortunately the only way to remove them is to take off the back bumper. I'm a bit short on the old free time during the day at the moment due to work being mental and because of that I need to get outside for a walk at lunchtime to decompress. Hopefully I'll get time next weekend to take it off, if it's dry, and reseal them. I've sealed up the nearside one with Vaseline as a temporary fix for now.

Getting the Harman Kardon apparatus bolted back in was a total flipping war.

9.3/10 for a wanky design here.

All done now.

MOT is in February so provided they don't order the garages to shut I'll get this done mid January.

Booked in at 9am, passed by 20 past 9!

Slightly miffed about the brake lines, they were supposed to all have been replaced back in September. The ones in each front wheel arch and the front to rear were done but I assumed all the corroded sections were replaced, like I had asked. 

I'll book it back in in a few weeks to have that done, I don't like leaving advisories for brake lines.

They were replaced with copper lines so I wouldn'thave thought that would be necessary ? The ones in the front arches were not greased.

Could be a MOT testers tic.  Mine will say some nonsense about panels fitted obscuring view if there's nothing else to write down on a straight pass.

Missed this before.  I have a feeling that might be where my boot is getting damp from as well - I will have to do some investigating.

That Karman Hardon amp appears to be mounted in the same spot as the sat nav computer on mine - that is also a total pain in the arse to remove and refit.
