Hi there folks. New owner here. If you’ve got any questions, feel free to ask. (I might respond)

Chances are it’ll be me asking the questions about the faulty electrics

Should you for some reason need a climate control panel, I still have one here! Abs control module/valve block as well.

You sir deserve a pat on the back!

Or a drink, depending on how French the electrics choose to be...

Welcome and good luck with it.  Hopefully it doesn't end up being too much of a ballache.

Oh, I remember seeing Gielgud and Nureyev performing that at the Garrick, absolutely astonishing fusion of drama and ballet. I believe it ended the run in Monaco.

Well done for rescuing it!  Sounded like it was needing a replacement ECU,  they can be found on ebay for around £25.

A new ECU has arrived for it. Here’s hoping it resolves the issue with the driver’s seat.

I’m also very much aware that it needs a good clean

It’s been a while, so I believe a small update is needed.

I bought a new ECU for the faulty seat, which unfortunately did not solve the issue, so I’m definitely leaning towards the idea of buying a new seat. If anyone has one spare that they have lying around, please do let me know. I’d be willing to take it off you if the price is right.

Is it not possible to unplug the ecu, dissasemble the seat and then reassemble in the correct position again? There will be breakers yards in France with the seat (passenger side), try google.fr with a translator perhaps.

It may be possible, however, it would need to slide back and forth in order for it to pass an MOT.

Ok. I might feel really stupid for asking this.

The ECU on the right is the replacement for the one I bought a few months ago. However, after tracing the wires from the seat; it appears that they actually go into the one on the left (with the yellow sticker). Before I make another wrong purchase, is that the ECU that I was *actually* meant to replace?

Are the connectors the same?  Could you run two passenger ECU s?

I’m not entirely sure. I don’t even know if the passenger seat has a separate ECU.

I’m still getting my head around the seat needing an ECU! I guess this is due to memory settings etc.

I would be planning a trip to Northern France to obtain a manual seat from a breakers at this point.

Obviously don’t know where you are, but if you’re in Southern England it’s worth a thought.

Changing the right control module should fix the seat if that's really the issue (not a blown fuse or dodgy connector), you might even be able to clean the old one. Make sure to get the right one with the correct part number though.

I may have some trailer space in the summer.

Are you sure about that?

6.2.5. Driver’s seat

Check the security of the driver’s seat.

For manually adjustable seats, check that the seat remains secure in several positions. It is not necessary to check that the seat can be secured in all possible positions. Seat adjustment must incorporate an automatic locking system which operates in all positions provided for normal use. If the mechanism requires manual assistance it should be rejected for not working as intended.

A driver’s seat that is fixed or cannot be adjusted to the manufacturers full range of fore and aft adjustment is not a reason for failure.

For electrically adjusted seats, you do not need to check that any ‘memory position’ function is working.

Original design characteristics and specialised modifications (e.g. to enable wheelchair access, or changed to a fixed seat) are to be accepted.

TL:DR, a drivers seat that is fixed in one position is acceptable.

Unfortunately I’m up in Clackmannanshire, so I don’t see that being possible. I appreciate the thought though.

If you can fit on some Visa o/s doors and a bonnet I'd pay you a handsome fee.

I didn't realise that Visa doors fitted a Safrane. Is it like the French version of ADO 14 & 17, or NSU K70 & RO80?

If you can make it to Bonnybridge,  take it for a test at Canal bank motors. They've always been really fair when it comes to MOTs and are shite friendly.

Bonnybridge isn’t far actually. It’s where my Saab went to die I guess.

I do hope you get it sorted soon, must be so frustrating having a seat stop it from being used.  I'd definately take someone up on the offer of a seat pick up from France, they have loads over there. Or just pay a breakers to send one over, will be a bit of cost but worth it in the long run.  I've had parts send over from France before without issue.

Also if you have it booked in for an MOT you can even legally drive it there without one, so long as its being driven straight to the MOT station:

"You cannot drive or park your vehicle on the road if the MOT has run out. You can be prosecuted if caught. The only exceptions are to drive it: to or from somewhere to be repaired."

A recent discovery. Could this be a potential reason as to why the seat is buggered?

Whatever you do, you need to get this car back on the road. I have just acquired a Safrane myself and it's the dogs dangly bits in terms of comfort.
