Liberated the roof skin supports from the spares car,it only had two though as one had been removed previously when it had an aftermarket sunroof fitted.

Still two was ok,I managed to straighten one of the originals,so the got welded back in.

Gave them a slurp of sealant to add to the rigidity.

Result is a nice solid roof skin,That really won't need a lot of filler to make it look decent again.

The top ones just bolted through the bumper,with large washers underneath.

Ok,seeing as this thread got bumped,here is the current situation with the 3 door Mk2.

Bodyshell is pretty much finished being welded,time to start on the flaps.

Bootlid.

Original to the car,but in need of some repair. 

Rusted in really odd places.

Strangely the one removed from the 5 door car,was good in the places where this one was rusty,go figure.

Time to start chopping.

Rot chopped out from underneath the tailgate latch.

New section offered up.

Same with the holes for the wiring/washer fluid pipes.

Trimmed to size and welded.

Latch area welded and flap wheeled back flush.

Same for the grommet holes.

Inside finished.

Outside of the tailgate next.

Boot handle locating mounts was beginning to rust.

Doner piece trimmed to fit.

Stitched n and linished back.

Handle still fits,always a bonus.

Slight rusting on the rear screen retaining lip.

New strip of steel cut to shape.

Welded in.

Ground back.

Tailgate finished.

Doors next.
