@eddyramrod what are your thoughts on the Jag? To drive, interior, build quality, speed etc. I've always wanted one but have little idea what to expect beyond a suspiciously cramped cabin

This also feels like a happy medium between the C3 and the Caddy.

Those old XJ300's are terrific cars, I still miss mine. Only thing I didn't like was I felt the drivers footwell was a bit narrow, wasn't a lot of room to rest my left foot. Interior was really well built, no creaks etc and the seats were great. 3.2 engine was more than adequate for me, it's a car you tend to just sit and waft in rather than push hard. Would definitely have another non rusty one

Anyone got a pair of front wings for this?  OS is looking particularly bad but NS isn't far behind.

They are about £150 on ebay but you can try specialist Jag breakers. I used Jagcats a few times for stuff. Was quite funny the last time I visited.

"How much for these relays?"

"£25 mate"

Bit steep but okay I thought.

"How about this indicator stalk"

"£25 mate"

"This seat?"

"£25 mate"

Not sure if everything is always £25 or if the bloke just couldn't be arsed that day.

Eurojag have seemed reasonably priced too but I've never bought owt from them.

Jagbreakers.net in Bolton have been quite good for me when it comes to body panel. They can be a little slow if something needs painting the correct colour, but I’d imagine things would be quite straightforward if they have the right colour wings in stock.

Have you had a quote for the welding?

Not a quote yet, but an estimate, based purely on my description of the work needing doing.  Next Tuesday could be interesting.

I read this post looking for mid 40s housewives in jodhpurs. most disappointed. false advertising, clickbait etc.

Nice jag though.

It's been up on the hoist today!  Sadly I was at a meeting, so no photos, but James reckons the sills want doing on both sides rather than just one.  He's standing by his estimate though, which is good of him.  He's talking about starting on Friday and having it done by about Wednesday, somewhat sooner than I expected.  This should be interesting...

That's good, I was worried it would cost ££££.

Fingers crossed it could be on the road soon.

How to start a New Year.

Meet a Shiter you haven't met before.

Relieve him of his car, that's out of MoT and been standing for months.

Drive it 40 miles home and leave it at a nearby garage for major work that I can't do myself.

The Shiter in question is Hillman Imp, and the car is the red Jaguar XJ8 Sport that he recently offered at no charge.  Well you can't turn that down, can you?

Handover accomplished, on neutral ground.  Note the registration, that cued up the car's new name: Hairy Pussy.  If that doesn't suit a Sport-oriented Jaguar, what does?  So now that I've taken possession...

Yes, the Woollard shot.  Has to be done.  No fuelling shot, because it didn't need any.  I've now dropped it at a nearby garage where the welding work will take place, and probably a couple of other small jobs it might need for MoT.  Updates to follow.

Meanwhile, since I drove it back to Barrow, I can say it's a lovely car.  Yes, there are things that need doing, but it's pretty much plug-n-play.  Have a couple of snaps from my end of the journey.

These are such great cars. I’ve an X300 3.2 sport too and was only smoking around in it today. I bloody love it and whenever I think of getting rid, a short spin normally puts that idea out of my head. Well wear, it’s a proper love affair a jag, enjoy!

Been to see Hairy Pussy today.  Interior stripping has commenced, and it's on the hoist, so I think welding may begin in the near future.  I'll be glad to have this on the road....

I've always had a soft spot for the Super V8 , don't think I'll ever get to own one though unfortunately

Fancy one of these,

Yours looks pucker,

Nice colour too, a nice red is hard to beat. 'tis alot better than the sea of grey/silver that adorn most exec cars nowadays ;)

Interiors are nice, just not very roomy!! ;)

The "pucker" will come when the welding is done!  Hopefully I'll have it home within a week.

And still no progress.  I don't want this to turn into a Rover 213 scenario!  I mean that's why I went to a different garage...

I said these "wise words" on Ken's Toledo sale thread...

I have to accept that my days of project cars are over, everything has to be fit, legal and viable from now on.

Why can't I listen?  I KNOW this stuff!  But no, I've done it again, and left myself at the mercy of a small garage.  I'm in there nearly every day, before anyone says I should be pushing them!  And still no action.  They've started the job, then had to move the car out to get others in, and it seems to be constantly slipping down the list.

Don't mind me, I'm just frustrated and out of sorts.

Be worth it when it's done Eddy! I loved my time with this car, once you've had your use out of it let me know and it can make it's way back ?

Posted

i'd jam me shoe up their ass if it were mine in there!

any other garages worth doing the work?

An appealing idea, but I'm already in there most days!  I sat in his office yesterday and subtly worked on making him feel guilty.  Either it worked or he's a bloody good actor who should be earning more than Benny Cabbagepatch!  He has a BMW occupying one lift, that he can't get the parts for, so the lift that would take the Jag is being used for everything else.  He said if he can't get it in tomorrow (Thursday) he's going to sub it out to the garage across the road, who can MoT it at the same time.  Bear in mind, he has started!  One side looks like it's nearly done.

Let's see...............

I'm getting seriously pissed off here.  Nine fucking weeks!  This is, exactly as I feared, turning into Hyacinth all over again.

Posted

Hairy Pussy is now here.  As in, parked in the back alley, interior in disarray, but at least it's not at the garage.  Somebody please bring me something I can legally drive, that should give me a few months of service.  You can then waft away home in a lovely red V8 Jag that just* needs the welding finishing for MoT.  That Astra van on the ebay thread looks like a contender.  Or... well almost anything EOL really.

Chuffin eck. Not looking good for ex hillmanimp Jags this week is it?

Were they just never going to do it then? What is it with garages over there not doing stuff they've agreed to?

Sorry to hear this. What a carry on.

Posted

Oh they started!  They just kept getting more work in, and this got pushed aside.  Eventually, as you've seen, I just got fed up and reclaimed it.  You and I were so optimistic about this at New Year.  I feel like I've let you down, but for the sake of my mental health, I had to bring it back.  Hopefully someone will come up with a cheap swopper that will offset what I've laid out so far, and will then finish the job so the car can live again.

I really wish I could help Eddy and come up with my sparkly stick but its just a no-go right now. :(

Hopefully something will work out.

Oh that would be so nice of you, but honestly, I wasn't hinting!  And anyway, if it was possible for you to weld it, you would surely have done it when you had it at home.  No, don't worry, we will work something out.  That's what this whole forum is for, isn't it?

I didn't think you were hinting, I would genuinely like to help keep it on the road, especially after the gold ones demise.

It is well within my abilities, I did the same repair on the gold one a few years ago I just didn't have the mentality to deal with it at the time when I had it, and definitely don't at the moment.

Hopefully someone can help.
