I want to take a truck over to Europe and trawl every scrapyard for the little used front passenger seats (lhd remember) for every 3 series BMW, 924/944, Golf Gti etc and import them into this country and charge British owners a fortune to replace their worn out and unobtainable drivers seats. Is this a good idea??? :? Are you in? 8)

80's German stuff with cloth seats did seem to wear out quite quickly, didn't it? Odd, really - as I've owned 90's Audis and VWs that have been minty fresh in the interior dept. after 10+ years and 100+k miles. Bizarrely, the seats in my 405 are pretty much unworn after 16 years and 191k miles! You can still buy the correct cloth from BMW (I did with an E28 528i), but it was bloody pricey...

I'm in as long as you can find some for a Mk3 Transit too as some had single passenger seats.

steady on! A transit would not seem right without big chunks of foam missing from the drivers seat and a big hole in the footwell matting.

If you can find a tidy BMW 1602/2002 Lux interior with the rear arm rest and dark blue velour and corded seats then I'll be in as well, Mine have seem to turned white and into dust.

Remember that the controls for tilt and recline will possibly be in the wrong place? You could just get the seat cloth and the relevant pad/base/shoulder or whatever required to make a buggered seat good again. You'd fit a lot more in your van too.Sounds like a fun idea even if you didnt make any money. You could take some passenger seats of our cars over there too..?

Good idea. Both my current ebay horror merc and my previous e34 have worn badly in the arse area. Would def have bought a new seat for the BMW if it was at a reasonable price.

I really am shocked that nobody has thought of this before.

You should pick up smoked rear lights and headlights off Audi B2 coupés and coupé quattro-specific parts if you can find them.

Can you divert through the USA (might take you an extra couple of hours or so) and pick up some all-red rear lenses for a late VW Karmann Ghia? Here - £70 minimum a pair. There - they're 'stock' ones, they're $6.95 each or something.

Could you do it as a franchise?A "shiter" in each country paid a percentage - save you the leg work. I'll have Slovakia please. :)

Nuts ain't it? Priced up rear lights for my old GMC on eBay America and they were ten dollars a pair brand new and a brand new rad was something like £49.It'd be a second mortgage job over here.My next business plan is going to be selling Citroen Saxo rear lights to Lexus owners.

Wouldn't it be cheaper to repair the worn seat here instead of trucking over Europe and pulling old cars apart?I had the leather replaced on the side of my old Tatra seat and it was only about £60. Reckon you can get a replacement seat for less than that? They're tricky things to post too  There's also loads of different seat colours and patterns so your stock level might need to be massive. Sorry to piss on your chips and all, feel free to look down on me from the back of your diamond-encrusted Tagora while lighting 12 inch Havana cigars with 100 dollar bills 8)

So you don't think I should trek across the channel in an ex Roadline Ford D Series to make my fortune as an international seat broker? :D

I still think it's more difficult than you imagine. Have you considered the seat fabric bandits that you'll have to get past, they're still reeling from the great "cloth inserts" wars of 2006.
