oh now that is very very nice indeed!

give it a year or so then yes i reckon i'll get something different

So today i did a little drive up to south shields to collect something from a fellow picasso nutter

what did i collect you may be wondering........

well.....

20200609_160529.thumb.jpg.830099112e3f472b0f22f777b4e4c4c2.jpg

can ya see it?

20200609_160537.thumb.jpg.8755c395660013e74600ab7dd21e0e5e.jpg

OH YES! a whole new interior!

20200609_160544.thumb.jpg.38acabd4347ebf50025405d2f12e0121.jpg

i'd say this car is loaded up quite nicely

20200609_174040.thumb.jpg.1b12029eeac4f9f7d6bf4d1f14d5e17b.jpg

really good value too and hardly worn, especially as it came with all door cards

20200609_174055.thumb.jpg.1054fe49d5c1f640e80cac3b59439ddc.jpg

rather nice seats too! lovely and comfy and still feel soft

i will be selling my old interior if anyone is at all interested

finally got round to a job i've been putting off (forgot about) for a year

the plate screws!

seeing as though it's raining, that means it's the perfect weather to work on your car

with my selection of all the wrong tools, to make it more fun!

20200610_143146.thumb.jpg.ec7489b083c7fe298b6e11bb0b6f11a6.jpg

as you can see, the old screws were manky, and looked dreadful

20200610_143148.thumb.jpg.76399aaa396ab0f46e5710912d4537b3.jpg

mmmmmmm crusty

20200610_143152.thumb.jpg.ca345013c79d10141b10a43470372f1b.jpg

of course, a screwdriver wouldn't get them out.....so had the break what was remaining of the plastic covers and get at them with pliers

20200610_143817.thumb.jpg.3a0d6fb38b0480a81c3407ad07ca8584.jpg

which had shocking success!

20200610_144157.thumb.jpg.d2f7f5e44844f15f71ee143c86cd4a34.jpg

ah yes, 15 years worth of dirt

20200610_144200.thumb.jpg.357d25155caadac23b88407f4290471f.jpg

this one was a bit more of a pain, but i still managed to get it out without damaging the plate.......................too badly

20200610_144408.thumb.jpg.c923fd55f5d6d354901a84e339353103.jpg

of course, i had to clean it, cleaned up pretty good too!

20200610_144638.thumb.jpg.62d331f04f09ed32505342b94460a025.jpg

it was so much easier putting the new screws in, mainly as they were still screw like

now time for the rear!

20200610_144751.thumb.jpg.d1588597fa96e3c5592ce3d514b97d7f.jpg

ah yes, this is even worse! notice my dreadful job of painting the screws last june, looked worse after i did it

20200610_144845.thumb.jpg.21afb8b66628367671033e6c7a36cae0.jpg

the useful pliers! this one came out very easily which was very nice indeed

20200610_145648.thumb.jpg.9b50495875c385dfd2cdb5ceb4a872bd.jpg

this one was a bastard and took me 20 minutes of swearing, cutting my fingers and slipping

20200610_150647.thumb.jpg.35daf36567a188cded3f2901a3a72f4e.jpg

oh nice! corrosion around the screw holes, meh doesn't seem that bad so lets pretend we haven't seen it

20200610_151007.thumb.jpg.0f7ad59c6b7a70d17ce9ce00d433f23e.jpg

and we are done!

plates look so much better, they're the originals i suspect but the dealer logo is covered by a second hand sellers name

annoyingly hard to remove that sticker, actually i'm going to give it a try now

oh yes, original plates

as i suspected, the car was a demonstrator at reg vardy in reading for the first few months of it's life

then in early 2006 it was bought from Reg Vardy in Hartlepool, oh this just adds more history to it

Top fettling. I didn't know they'd spec euro plates at a dealer.
You should vactan those rusty screw holes (fnar). They will only get worse.

The postcode at the bottom of the number plate, RG2 0SN, is coming up as the matalan in Reading!

not many have euro plates from a dealer, especially as a demonstrator

i'll likely clean it up some more soon, just so glad i managed to finally get round to doing it

yes i've seen that, i also saw that theres some car dealers across the road

i'm just surprised how it ended up literally at the other end of the country once it was done being a demonstrator, unless there was a shortage or something of course

Only just caught up on this thread and I’ve got to be honest, having spent hundreds of hours sat in the back of a blue Y reg one when I was younger, I wondered why anyone in their right mind would choose to restore one, but the more I read, the more I got it. Even if it’s not my thing, it’s definitely nice to see such an unloved car get this level of care and attention, which is exactly what AS has always been about. Picassos are quickly becoming a rare sight, and I don’t think it’ll be long until we’re wondering where they all went. It’s even made me reconsider my opinions on them. One of my favourite things about the one my dad has when I was a kid (and the one he has now!) was the folding trolley in the boot. Does yours still have it?

As i say these are some of the most unloved cars out there, they're desperately underrated and in my mind autoshite!

indeed it does! and i do use it for shopping as i look super cool (massive saddo)

as i always say with the almost certain scrappage schemes coming up those will likely kill them off all together, going to be a huge shame though

Haha love it! It’s the sort of feature that I wish more cars had.

I imagine you’re right about scrappage schemes spelling the end for a lot of these too. Considering how many they made, not seeing them on the road any more will be strange

as a real saddo i run a spotters group on facebook.......

honestly i'd say i see about 5-6 other ones a week, while driving around 300 miles a week

i had honestly thought they were still really common but i can go days without seeing them, quite sad really

don't even see many MPVs anymore, it's all just SUVs and crossovers

Not my picasso, but a picasso

a prime example of why you don't neglect your car and drive less than a mile each day, severe oil dilution, tappet noise and a bottom end noise at higher revs!

No photo description available.

This is the crap i got out of it, the oil on a petrol really shouldn't be this colour
absolutely stunk of petrol too, glad to have saved another picasso........it seems pretty quiet now some very slight ticking but i suspect it has engine damage

Image may contain: plant and outdoor

got some more stuff to do to pablo this week so stay tuned

oh did i mention this is a 2009 picasso that's fucked......with 65k miles too!

Posted

Made a youtube video on the most important subject of all!

some hot claphand wiper action!

enjoy my delaminating windscreen too

Posted

A fucked windscreen and a rusty tailgate?

Ha’way Maxxo, man. I thought this was a Pebble Beach example!

adds character to the car, i feel it would be wrong of me to now show it on here

when the day comes i plan to sell it to a shiter (stupidly cheap) for ease, and i don't want anything to be hidden

i would love a new windscreen, i've had a few large stones hit it but of course they haven't even chipped it......

i do plan on sorting the corrosion out, before it gets much worse as i want to keep all the body panels and visible paint as original as possible

some small fettling and tickering today,

firstly i've been greatly upset by my poor wiper blades recently, less than a year old and worn already......mind you i have done almost 19k on them

20200612_125017.thumb.jpg.a30469f07379315cb0c0f634bada743e.jpg

ah yes, nice! probably the best branded blades this car has had since new

20200612_125528.thumb.jpg.2caa7dbf5dffcc454ad41694aeeae370.jpg

mmmmmm no more split rear blade which makes it worse once wiped! so crystal clear

20200612_125533.thumb.jpg.94f99cfab7f250ca38cc22c84ede68e4.jpg

CLAPHAND WIPER ACTION YO! of course absolutely crystal clear, and after my waxing of unwiped sections pretty much no dribbles of disatisfaction

interesting fact, as you know this has the newer style boot handle with the chrome trim, yet it should have the factory aero wipers......however being an august 05 build it gets the 2.0 hdi, old style wipers but the chrome trim, quite an uncommon model

the eagle eyed among you may notice this has a "shower" style spray from the washers, when the older ones used 4 jets (2 from each nozzle)

theres some interesting wiping information you may not know

of course after doing the wipers i couldn't stop there

pedal rubber time!

20200612_125558.thumb.jpg.6546adf1fafb094f5ba0ffabb370f7e7.jpg

dreafully worn and not being very anti slip, also note the fix someone did using a cable tie, surprisngly not me!

20200612_125802.thumb.jpg.047e0f743a0083e56b4d73721676ae7f.jpg

brake pedal just popped off, but the clutch had this weird residue under it that was incredibly manky and just filthy in general, i see the old rubber had split a long time ago yet instead of replacing it someone put a cable tie round it

20200612_125903.thumb.jpg.f408a66b56fc144d6ee335b8ba0f26fd.jpg

and there we go, nicely sorted

actually has anti slip properties now which is much appriciated, and looks far better!

next little jobs:

sort the corrosion behind the rear plate, properly paint the steel wheels, paint the pedals as the corrosion on it is dissapointing

doing an interior swap next week if the weather permits

101,740 mile update, the heatshield has dropped down again so need to push that back up

errmmmmmm, that seems to be it, due another oil change soon as well as discs and pads but it's been repair free for over a month!

now i do fancy a CD changer........i've heard most of these are prewired for it, of course mine isn't by the looks of it which makes it much more exciting!

oh and if i can be arsed i'll take the rear plate off and sort out the corrosion

i will be using a pot of touch up paint so it won't look decent but it will prevent it from getting worse which is the most important thing but it's hidden by the plate anyway so doesn't matter that much

also going to replace the drivers door seal as it looks tatty

Have you thought about having it remapped? It's a cheap way to more fun.

ocasionally there is moments when you seem to not have enough power, suppose that's my big thing for later in the year

It'll make a massive difference

I've just had a GALLETTO 1260 or whatever delivered, and @Jimbob McGregor has a 306 HDI with a 125BHP map on it.

Obviously I'm planning on practising on the family car..

my god with a 125bhp map it would be picasso GTI!

i'm not in any rush for it but i'll likely do it one day (and of course, being french it will break something really awkward to access)

I've had about ten cars and vans remapped and haven't had a single problem yet.

What it may do is highlight something that was going to fail anyway. Clutch, gearbox, turbo etc. If your cars healthy enough anyway, you'll not have a problem.

Decent firms will do a health check first anyway.

My van's 181.6bhp with around 500 torques. It was rolling roaded and mapped by a tuning garage in Forrest Hall.

All customs have exactly the same engine, turbos etc. Can you imagine the difference when your van was 100bhp factory.

Mine was a 155 (157 when he tested it beforehand) but the difference was still huge.

i mean it's certainly something to consider, i feels 99% healthy and runs beautifully plus had a new clutch a year ago so confident that should be fine

well it's fettling time again!

this time de rusting

20200616_185338.thumb.jpg.fc472782e28d06460c892752c0de3055.jpg

hmmmmm bit bubbly

20200616_185341.thumb.jpg.dc22b3b8e08c77097c8309929798cdd2.jpg

okay this isn't horrific but it does need sorting

DISCLAIMER: DO NOT DO IT LIKE THIS! i am not a professional

20200616_190037(0).thumb.jpg.a882437c67c62b4665f2f4c8b8eed109.jpg

well, a quick sand later (awful job of sanding but it doesn't matter) and i seem to have got rid of the worst of it

20200616_190330.thumb.jpg.94eb306c284b8d486cf96f875165004a.jpg

terrible application of primer, using a kitchen roll and turps to avoid paintwork damage from it, but it does the job

whilst that dried i sanded down the other side

20200616_190704.thumb.jpg.883f0bd251393620496fba34f70eb082.jpg

again it was pretty easy to get rid of the worst of it, glad i saw it when i did tbh

20200616_190853.thumb.jpg.cb9eeeabffa65871cb7499992b74f9f8.jpg

ah yes, the unknown age touch up paint i found under the seat, seems the perfect paint to use

i mean it's the right colour and that's good for my standards of bodywork

20200616_192336.thumb.jpg.e306201d4636153dfbcf4c0dccde696b.jpg

and doesn't it look......well not that horrific tbh, sure it's nowhere near a professional job but it doesn't need to be

it's an awful lot better than the rust and it's hidden anyway so it doesn't matter

20200616_192340.thumb.jpg.061197492991a691f81ad23124d4de4c.jpg

i'll be honest i'm quite happy with the results, at least i don't have to worry about the rust anymore and it's some protection

No worse than the repairs on the other picasso you posted about ?

at least i used primer haha!

i just needed to quickly sort this to slow down the corrosion, i'm aware it will come back but this makes me feel a bit better

I can recommend a 125hp map on a 306 estate from personal experience.

That was fuuuuuun, then I stupidly sold it to buy a sodding Audi A4 that ate money hand over fist.
