Nice pics Brammy. I really like that yellow Cortina, even though i generally hate yellow cars. The front of the Safrane looks a bit weird too.Cheers.

I have a feeling this may be a one owner car, judging by the man in it. Its perfect though.

The old boy who owns this stores it in a garage opposite my house. He comes down most Sundays to take it out in a tidy late 940 estate, which I assume is his daily driver. You might be onto something with the "one owner" assumption as he's about 900 years old.

Ive got hundreds of photos recently, just not had the time to put them all on here, as per its just the shite highlights for you all.

Posted Image

Apparently this one has graced my college car park, god knows who owns it.

Posted Image

I think the Metro has become as much a staple of the show car park as the MKII Granada now.

Posted Image

Dont think Ive seen a USA spec OVLOV in the UK before, I really like the clear lenses.

Posted Image

This picture doesnt do any justice to the immense size of this thing.

Posted Image

Sublime. Gorgeous from every angle. V12 too!

Posted Image

I think this is a Handyman but do any of our resident Lorry experts know better?

Posted Image

One of many, many local American Barges.

Posted Image

Possible ex BL press car, Im not sure but the poster on the window said something along the lines of it.

Posted Image

I would not want to crash in this, half of it seemed to be not metal anymore.

Posted Image

V8 MKV! Sounds ridiculous, looks fantastic.

Posted Image

I prefer the facelift Marina. I know it was a half arsed attempt to freshen it but eh.

Posted Image

Seems to be a fair few of these local, anyone ever had any experience?

Posted Image

I seem to see alot of these at the moment, not complaining though.

Posted Image

Posted Image

Annoyingly, another 16 left the show as I entered. I think we should get a ban for those annoying signs in front of cars at show, do not cover it up!

Posted Image

Not shite, but beautiful.

Posted Image

What a winner, its survived banger racers and the scrappage scheme! Really early one.

Posted Image

Really crisp looking still, perhaps one of the nicest 80s German barges.

Posted Image

Posted Image

Horrendously clean.

Posted Image

I dont know if this is a newcomer to Basingstoke or not, Ive never seen it before.

Posted Image

Surely not 35 years old?!?

More later!

Posted

Annoyingly, another 16 left the show as I entered.

Was that the one in the car park/field? Or were there three of the little blighters there? Lovely to see them both, anyway, being from a family that had two of them.

Posted

Simon, it was a silver one and I presume it was in the car park, it was driving along the top of town when I was making my way there! It certainly left early.

Ill add some more.

Posted Image

Posted Image

Posted Image

One of the only constantly local cars is this Escort, looking a bit shabby now but solid enough.

Posted Image

Posted Image

Im sure this one has a story, apparently its meant to be a convertible. Its a TR8 apparently.

Posted Image

Posted Image

No idea why this visited my village! 79 model.

Posted Image

Posted Image

Chunky, but still graceful in my eyes.

Posted Image

Posted Image

The show seemed to bring out some local tat Id not seen before, this neat earlyish Polo being one.

Posted Image

I think I used to know the owner of this, nice guy.

Posted Image

Posted Image

Yes I do get bored of seeing these. Sometimes.

Posted Image

Seemingly managed to get quite a few 'to the left' shots at the show, I felt so ill, thats why.

Posted Image

I think this looks alright.

Posted Image

Gigantic, but I like them. Funny, most people probably wouldnt bat an eyelid if a supercar manufacturer made an SUV today.

Posted Image

Another American 'sedan'.

Posted Image

Posted Image

This one has lost its Wankel innards.

Posted Image

Posted Image

Possibly one of my favourite spots recently, I have been trying for ages to get it. In rather good condition, and not owned by old folks!

Posted

GR8 work Sam, Some cracking stuff there, I quite the face lift Marinas as well with the spot lights in the grill. 8)

Simon, it was a silver one and I presume it was in the car park, it was driving along the top of town when I was making my way there! It certainly left early.

Nope, didn't see that one - there must have been three there then! Given that there are only 63 left in the UK (according to PC a few months back) that's quite a significant proportion of survivors all in one place! The one I saw in the car park was a shabbier version of the one on show, rusty at the front like all good 16s are.

I saw that Lada Estate driving around a few weeks back - also saw a yellow mk3 Cortina parked up somewhere on Saturday which I'd not seen before.

Posted

So I missed two other 16s? Deary me! I think I know which MKIII you mean, I half expected it to be at the show but it wasnt. Daily runner I think, was it in South Ham per chance? Theres also a yellowy beige MKV estate round here, only seen it once though!

The red and white Ford truck is a Transcontinental, as driven by the P6 loving shiter Peter Sutcliffe.

Seems to be a fair few of these local, anyone ever had any experience?

My brother has had personal experience with the Bedford Rascal campervan! He bought one whilst he was working down in Somerset about four years ago as he was travelling around a bit with his job at the time. It was also an E reg, registered in Torquay (if memory serves me - it had original dealer plates), only had two owners from new, a good service history, nine months MOT/tax and had just gone over 19k miles when he drove it back home.

He said the experience was 'interesting'. 50/55mph was about it's safest speed on the straights. As for corners - hang on tight! As a result, he kept off the motorways as much as he could, took several stops and about nine hours to cover 200 or so miles! It was no long distance tourer, that’s for sure!

It was in proper timewarp condition - if you didn't look underneath. It could have passed for being only a year or two old, very similar to your pictured example. The only difference was it didn't have graphics on the cab and it had a window in the front of the camper bit. The typical place for Rascals to rust is the front wheelarches. They were as new. Interior in the cab is typical standard fit Bedford Rascal - grey cloth seats, rubber floor... In the rear was a pinky-brown carpet with similar coloured seats and pine-esq mini drawers. The fridge at the rear would probably hold a six-pack at a push! Again, all the interior was immaculate. I quite liked it for what it was. I would have happily spent a few nights in it...

I took one look underneath and it looked as if it had been sitting in a canal for several years. The rust was unbelievable! I could crack pieces off with my bare hands. I’m surprised how the thing was holding together. How it passed it’s MOT (if it was genuine) I'll never know. My brother took one look underneath which he didn’t before he bought it (which is very typical of him... he isn’t the shiniest of pennies when it comes to motoring) after he saw the contents of my hand and swore rather loudly.

I think he only covered about 100 miles in it since then, not only because of the horrors lurking underneath, but because his circumstances changed. He rented a hardstanding storage space in a local caravan storage facility and after a few months he sold it for the same price he paid for it.

I never did get the chance to drive it, unfortunately.

Here we go again, a mix of all areas really from the past few weeks.

This Sumo is a scrapyard hack at the moment, probably off some Farm.

Posted Image

Poor thing, most definitely scrappage. Mileage was 36000.

Great spots as usual Bram. Really liked the Rover 800s, but then again, I would.

Posted Image

I've got a real horn on looking at this, I really like it. Proper bog-spec Escort sporting the Circa 1993 no/missing-wheel trims look.

Posted

I'm liking both the Maestro (a VP model with shiny shiny wingmirrors?) and the Jetta GTI - that must really be the thinking man's Mk2 Golf, can't imagine they're either as expensive or as twatted around with.

Plus you can sell the front end to a Golf owner if you ever scrap it.

Nice update Brammy!

Plate on this reminded me of 'Shaitan' (devil in Islam):

Posted Image

Although that maybe relegates me to those Ebay mongs who value rubbish plates..

Stellar and Astra Mk2 Estate thing please!

Good one Brammy.

Posted

I'd take the mk5 Escort of course, from your latest collection! From that picture, it's been reasonably well cared for and still has it's proper wheel trims too. No rust in the obvious places either. Pretty much all of these early LX 1.8i's have disappeared. They went like 'you know what' off a shovel in they're time too.

'Ruddy hell - a three door mk2 Astra Estate. Now that's a rare thing to see today. Not seen one of those in the metal for some time. I’d love to be 'let loose' for 10/15 minutes on that front bumper to get it back to black (well, dark grey...). I don't know what it is about Vauxhalls of that very late eighties/ very early nineties era. They're unpainted plastic bumpers seem to bleach in sunlight worst than almost anything else from that period.

As for that Stellar - absolutely superb! Surprisingly clean too.

Posted

Some more, from mainly the South but some from elsewhere.

Posted Image

Still see a fair few farmers pickups around, but numbers are slowly declining.

Posted Image

Posted Image

The eagle eyed ones among you may notice the MKII Fiesta in front of this, it was an A reg Popular Plus which I have spotted before.

Posted Image

One for Lobster.

Posted Image

One of my favourite American cars, doesnt look too bad for three years off the road.

Posted Image

Bizzarely lucky spot considering the circumstances. I saw it in a Service Station near Potters Bar. An RS2000 left as we entered too.

Posted Image

Posted Image

This belongs to a college mate. Lucky ****.

Posted Image

Posted Image

Every Onion I see is a 1.6 Ghia model.

Posted Image

One of two (as far as I know) B11s in Basingstoke, both are still solid and run out models. I havent seen an early B11 for ages now.

Posted Image

I know, I know yet another MKIV. Even I think its ridiculous, but Im sure Ive seen all the local ones now. A black three door one turned up at Yately Motor Factors the day after I took this.

Posted Image

Not old, but the rate at which they have disappeared is quite suprising.

Posted Image

A suprise sight at the Meadows, second prefacelift MKII Accord Ive seen there now.

Posted Image

The only one left locally I think, seems to follow me everywhere. Seen it in Farnborough, Basingstoke and Sandhurst.

Posted Image

Fleet Services always has something of interest.

I'm trying not to look at the Wolseley.... who ever approved the mix of Harvest Gold for production? His grandparents should have been drowned at birth! That "colour" is a crime, a capital offence. Mind I was never a fan of the 1100/1300 range either, but BL in their wisdom spread that shite over everything they could; it's not the car's fault. Tis also not the car's fault that by the time this example was built the design was about 10 years out of date. Heads must roll, name and shame the criminals.

Posted

The Wolseley was F sale Ebay 13 Apr 2008 12024650388.

It's actually got Limeflower interior, so you can't escape the "baby's nappy" even inside! :)

Posted

I never thought Basingstoke could offer so much! Reading used to be great, before the re-generation and dot.com stuff. That Opel is a great looking machine and I have a real soft spot with those Honda Aerodecks - I have a feeling that the styling proposal for that car was offered to several other manufacturers before Honda too.

Posted

Basingstoke is suprisingly good, but I have noticed a rather sharp decline lately in the amount of tat I see, but I put most of that down to taking photos of 80% of it already. I always presumed Reading would have a fair bit, but Ive never actually gone to look. Ill wait until I can drive before doing that I reckon.

I can actually think of a few Basingstoke cars Ive yet to spot, theres a 505 estate, MKII Cav cab, MKII Escort and a few more Bluebirds and Sierras....

Posted

Hey, Harvest Gold is GR8. Not quite as appealing as Limeflower though!

Some class spots there. Love the 2CV, early UK market square headlight model FTW. And the Stellar is just , well, 8)

Posted

The red B11 is owned by someone who lives opposite my in-laws. GR8 spots Bramster-san!

Posted

Top spotting :D Opel is superb and you've also mange to come across what I reckon is one of the best period perfect hot rods built in the country 8)

Posted

I aspire to be as good as Brammy one day! His spotting skillz R AWESUM. :D

That Opel is fantastic as well.

Just a quick update from the past month, Ive seen quite a few more rarer classics, it has to be said! Here goes.

Posted Image

Posted Image

Shocked to see this pair outside. The DKW is a funny little thing.

Posted Image

Clearly the owner was in two minds about the bodykit and left half of it off.

Posted Image

Posted Image

Posted Image

Posted Image

Posted Image

Posted Image

Posted Image

I saw a hell of a lot of Reliants on holiday.

Posted Image

Posted Image

Posted Image

Posted Image

Posted Image

Posted Image

Posted Image

I think the owner may like Reliants.

Posted Image

One for MK5 Escort!

Posted Image

Posted Image

I havent seen one this early for ages.

Posted Image

Posted Image

Perfect. I saw an even more impressive bit of timewarp later, a horrendously crusty L plate Dolomite.
