I can confirm that Master_Flower has just left skattrd_acres heading for the A1.

It was good to see you again David, and I must say the car does look very nice.

That must be one of the few 9 year old cars that actually still looks spot on.

Nice.

Just filled up at Markham Moor. Will maybe stop for dinner somewhere - traffic reports saying A1(M) cunterated somewhere near Yorkshire.

Does do GLF etc. Will do a full write up soon.

As noted, a visit to skattrd_acres to visit former SVM staff cars

That looks to have a surprisingly good lock on it for a T6 Volvo.  On the S80 T6 I looked at, full lock seemed to be about 15 degrees from straight ahead.

I'm hitting like for the Autoshite racing colours and in the assumption that T6 means it's fast Mista? I actually have no idea what it is though!

Another Volvo export
wass diff between D3 D4 D5 for all the non pervs

only know about d5
D2 is a 1.6 four pot diesel with 110hp.
D3 is a 2.0 four pot diesel...140hp maybe.
D4 was a five pot 2.0 diesel...165hp I think.
D5 was a 2.4 five pot with either 180 or 205hp.

None of that matters because Mr Fowler has bought the best spec that could possibly exist.

I had a quick look at the specs of this age v70, and (according to carfolio) it's 10cm longer 10cm wider than an 850, so a little bit bigger.
The wide pillars and chunky styling make it look smaller.

Could have popped into mine, although I don’t have a kitchen at the minute.

water from the outside tap probably more nutritious than services scran though.

Did this engine replace the Yamaha v8 that slartibartfast has in his s80 or did they never fit that to the v70?

Posted

Home now.

As far as I know, the V8 never made it to the estates.

Surprised to learn it's a version of the Volvo Modular engine in this. The six pot version of that is a big old lump, how is engine access?

Cracking buy Mr. Flowers.

I have popped the bonnet, got scared and immediately closed it again. The alternator is half way along the block, driven by a shaft off the aux pulleys.

Without taking the big plastic cover off it would appear the easiest thing to access, replace and maintain is the air con compressor.

34mpg doesn't seem bad for a 300bhp 4wd beast, especially with a detour into the wilds of Lincolnshire en route.

34mpg was from the Shell garage at Markham Moor to Ferrybridge, A66, Gretna services then to the Shell garage just off M74 J2a. Cruise control set at 70mph, sensible acceleration on the A66 going between speed limits - not horsing it, not being a sedated nun. It's an extreme example of what it will ever get.

Well that's the first T6 135 I've ever seen . Speechless.

I do wonder why Volvo decided to develop the V8 when they did, when they already had this beast in the stable.

Don't get me wrong I'm glad they did, but know what I mean?

No cheeky drag race at one of the as track days between this and the older one? I hear @cms206 isn't very busy nowadays, sure he could lend a hand...

Oh my, that's well swish.

You know these are basically a Mondeo Mk4 underneath?

Ford platform EUCD, Volvo platform P3. Also used for Land Rover Freelander 2, which is just mental.

Anyway, it does look a lovely thing. Is it metallic light brown? I can’t really figure out the colour. Bonus shite points if it is - brown cars are for WINNERS.

Posted

Of course. Everything shares common platforms these days and the Mk3 V70 was designed under Ford leadership. It's still bloody lovely though.

There's worse cars for a reliable boring-not-boring modern to be based on than the mondeo!

If that was vauxhall it'd be based on the corsa or something like everything is nowadays

Posted

Don’t get me wrong, being based on a Mk4 Mondeo is an excellent start in life for any vehicle.

The S80 was the first model to use the platform, so I imagine there was substantial Ovlov input.

Posted

Wonder how a running gear transplant between one of these and say a volvo 240 would go?

Posted

Aye. The engine is a Volvo design originating from the modular white block designs used in the 850 and 960 albeit with modern tech applied to them.
