As SiC says, it's just one of the "quirks" of the complete disaster that is the Invision text editor. If you're on a mobile device, *sometimes* forcing the page to reflow by swapping from landscape to portrait (or vice-versa) and back will kick it into working again. Not always though. I've noticed the other quirks already. I just totally avoid tagging people or using emojis on mobile. Italics and bold used to be fine for me until today, though.
LightBulbFun Posted March 18, 2024 Posted March 18, 2024 around 5:42 and 30 seconds, I clicked on the single and sad thread and it broke then rather ironically, as I clicked on this thread around 5:43 and 40 seconds or so, it also broke LOL I find it very Autoshite how it broke trying to load the bug reporting thread AnnoyingPentium 1
Supernaut Posted March 18, 2024 Posted March 18, 2024 Yup. I'm getting lots of "sorry something went wrong" errors too. It's taking a couple of tries to get into any thread, including this one.
Saabnut Posted March 18, 2024 Posted March 18, 2024 Almost every thread comes up with the error message for me, but a single hit on the refresh button and all is fine. Edge on a laptop if you need that info
SiC Posted March 18, 2024 Posted March 18, 2024 For some inexplicable reason, the forum software decided to revert to the old search server password. Despite that no one changing that setting. I've reverted it back to the correct new setting. Hopefully its set as I'm on the train and on mobile. Seems to have got rid of the errors for me though. Smells like a bug in the forum software. If it does it again, I'll have to file a bug report. Saabnut, egg and Sunny Jim 3
SiC Posted March 18, 2024 Posted March 18, 2024 I know it's definitely no one changing it as it won't let you save the settings if it can't connect to the search server! Bizarre. I can only think it caches the settings somewhere and it's reverted them.
High Jetter Posted March 18, 2024 Posted March 18, 2024 Did that briefly for me around 5:20 whilst waiting for a train but seemed to sort itself out pretty quickly.
egg Posted March 18, 2024 Posted March 18, 2024 A new feature? On threads you've started if you hold down on the thread title while in the thread, you can alter the title without actually editing the first post as before....this is cool for long running threads like my Mondeo one. EyesWeldedShut Posted March 19, 2024 Posted March 19, 2024 Question - have I broken something? Tonight if I go to https://autoshite.com/discover/unread/ I get the message below. It was all OK this morning juular and FakeConcern 2
SEATMad Posted March 19, 2024 Posted March 19, 2024 Anyone else having trouble replying/posting threads? My past couple of posts on the eBay Tat page was met with the dreaded 504 error screen and just normal replies take an age to post. Just me with this issue? CGSB 1
SiC Posted March 19, 2024 Posted March 19, 2024 This isn't the lost password issue, the search server is deciding to just stop serving requests inexplicably. Not sure why it's doing it far more on this server than before. It's the exact same setup (the exact same docker container config). I've not done anything this time and it does resolve itself (I think restarts itself). Fecking thing. I might upgrade to the latest search server version to see if that improves anything. It'll take 10 mins or so for the container to download and rebuild. Other option is to run it on a separate instance again as that generally was quite stable. Just that will cost more.
SiC Posted March 19, 2024 Posted March 19, 2024 Aaaaand it's literally just done it again. The search server is responding but coming back with the error "no shards available". (A shard is a search server instance)
SiC Posted March 19, 2024 Posted March 19, 2024 Okay it appears the search server partition has run out of room. It was allocated 20GB. On the old server it usually used around 10GB. This was at 10GB after creating the indexes. For some reason it has jumped 8GB suddenly. I've switched to the old method of search which works but will be restricted to the last 28days of posts. At least it should stop the 502 error for now. That gives me a chance to rebuild the search server instance with the latest version and clean from scratch. I deleted all the search indices from the test site and allowed this to rebuild them. I'm wondering if it would have played ball better with a clean build. SEATMad, loserone, egg and 1 other 4

Fingers fecking cross that this will sort the issue. The search service has been my bane of this setup. egg, Dyslexic Viking and CGSB 3
SiC Posted March 20, 2024 Posted March 20, 2024 Index rebuilt. I'm seeing some new errors appearing occasionally in the logs but not sure if they're appearing to users (i.e. it retries and succeeds). Last one I saw was at 17:29 and was when @MiniMinorMk3 was accessing a page. Did you see any errors when that occurred @MiniMinorMk3 (or anyone else today)?

Zelandeth Posted March 20, 2024 Posted March 20, 2024 Errors popping up now when clicking on the "first unread post" icon, but still able to access the threads directly it seems. Remspoor 1
SiC Posted March 20, 2024 Posted March 20, 2024 I fucking hate elasticsearch.🤬 Bloody thing has just crashed again. Argh argh arrrrgh I've hit restart and it'll be up in a moment. CGSB, Zelandeth and St.Jude 2 1
SiC Posted March 20, 2024 Posted March 20, 2024 Yeah I started all the things (database, web server and php). Elasticsearch has decided to suddenly just gobble all the space up again. This time all 40GB. Hence why the server went god awful slow about 20mins ago. It's getting fecking ridiculous. I've hit rebuild on the search again. If it plays up after this time, I'll switch to the old system (with it's more restricted number of days it can search) and have a rethink of what to do with elasticsearch. It seems it doesn't like to play nicely with other stuff running on the same host. With only 2 CPUs and "only" 8GB of RAM (it's written in java so a massive memory hog), it struggles to coexist with everything else needed to run. Potentially it'll have to run on its own instance again. Snake Charmer, Dyslexic Viking and AnnoyingPentium 3

SiC Posted March 20, 2024 Posted March 20, 2024 Yeah that relies on the search to function and as above, I hit reindex earlier when it shat itself while eating up all the storage. There is quite a lot of general stuff apart from the search function that requires it. Hence why when it's playing silly buggers, the whole site goes to shit. I was hoping with it being on the same server, it would behave better. Seems the opposite is true. It doesn't help that I have to choose virtual machines with more limited resources to keep on a tight budget. If it was commercial I'd just up the spec a fair chunk. But that'll potentially push the costs up a fair bit too. I'm getting rather irritated by it (elasticsearch). I'd rather not use it but there isn't any other real options with this forum software and the sheer quantity of posts on here now. Another option could be to move to another provider. This current provider (scaleway) is pretty expensive nowadays for what you get. Dick Cheeseburger and Dyslexic Viking 2
Dyslexic Viking Posted March 21, 2024 Posted March 21, 2024 My recent activities that didn't work yesterday are working now but show that my last post is from 1 August last year.
St.Jude Posted March 21, 2024 Posted March 21, 2024 Would like to add another thing to the list. If you've gone past the first page on a multipage screen, and you click on "1" to go back to the first page, it just reloads the page you're on. Annoying if you've gone to Page 2 on the Open forum and you want to back to the first page.

Previous/next and the numbered buttons work, as does the last page button. The first page button though just reloads the current one. That's an odd one.

Spiny Norman Posted March 21, 2024 Posted March 21, 2024 Site is taking ages to respond to a request for a new thread/page. I'm clicking on headings which take so long to respond I'm opening another tab and loading another website because I'm thinking my wi-fi is down. 10+ seconds to load a page sometimes, is the new server still loading up/bedding in or whatever it needs to do?
