Whilst I like both i'm erring slightly more towards the earlier front, as I like the clean lines & overrider bumpers. Can I say neither. IMHO? The VW Golf look was the way to go - black out the grille and put a large 'Leyland Wheel' floating in the centre like the VW roundel - with 'Austin' or 'Maxi' to the right. Would have bought the car bang up to date. But of the options on offer - unsubdivided...imagine the Golf with a fussy centre fillet in the middle. High Jetter
I think I prefer the later grille, but could be because I'm just more used to seeing them. ETCHY

Whilst I like both i'm erring slightly more towards the earlier front, as I like the clean lines & overrider bumpers. My preference is for the shield badge, ideally on a black and chrome HLS grille and colour matched to the car, which funnily enough is what YDU (incorrectly) wears. The unadorned chrome grille of the cable changers looks far too plain. Some Maxi 2s had an all-black grille with the blue/green rectangle badge, and some also had all-black bumpers, no doubt a vain attempt to make them look more suited to the 1980s. lesapandre
They are larger? Off an 1800 or some such? Gives the car a more agressive stance which is what it needed to shake off it's Terry and June look. Will the 6-cylinder as fitted to Wolseley 1800 fit in one of these? A kind of BMC VR6. lesapandre
Seems the Maxi name has returned as a big VW Caddy type van. I assume the model name/trademark is no longer registed by BMW or the Chinese or whoever hold these legacy BMC car marque and model names or it's not something they care about? They would hardly go to court over it. Who owns the Austin and Morris marque names these days? Austin by the Chinese I think and Morris by BMW? I assume they are completely moribund. BMW own Riley and Wolseley I think. There is amusingly a BMC racing cycle team and BMC bikes - Italian I think. Always makes me laugh when I see the name - if you have a long memory it looks so nostalgic.

adw1977
I've never seen a Maxi with the AUSTIN lettering on the bonnet combined with the later grille. Presumably a replacement grille. greengartside
