My dad's 1500 had the rod change, and was notchy from new. However the worst gear to find was 5th, where it would just baulk sometimes, needing a second or even third attempt. Most of the time it would go into 5th very sweetly. As I said above, I learnt to drive in it, so only had the instructor's Fiesta 957 to compare it against, and that was only for a few lessons to learn the routes before the test.
