These mark 4 Cortinas have piqued my interest recently.

That looks very expensive for a car that a) sounds like it doesn’t run and b) looks likely to be rather rusty in lots of key places.

The beige Mk4 posted more recently looks a much better bet, although I’d still want to know what’s underneath all that brown paint on the NS lower body before proceeding further. The boot floor is nice and clean though, always a good sign.

I had a feeling it had been on here recently.

Rare optional headrests.

Just realised that Cortina has got the number plate spacing wrong, there isn’t a gap between the initial three letters and the numbers - this is the sort of little niggling thing that doesn’t get picked up with MoTs any more given the exemption.

Very, very last of the Hillmans for an R plate, considering production in Ryton would have stopped pretty early on in ‘76 to allow most of the tooling, machinery etc to be transferred to Linwood for the Chrysler badged facelift ones.

There are a few P platers about but that’s the first R one I’ve seen in about 30 years of being interested in Avengers!

Close to what it cost back in the day. My Dad had a 2.0GL auto Estate bought new in 1979. It was about £4500 with a bit of discount.
My Mum thought it was a ridiculous amount for a car because it was the first car they had that cost more than the house we lived in (£3k in 1963).
