I've had great luck with cars using my knowledge and contacts to make a bit of money and also lost out big time on cars where I've taken a bit of a gamble. 

It's not worth what someone is willing to pay for it, because what I'm "willing to pay" and someone else is "willing to pay" maybe wildly different, it's worth what the seller wants to let it go for, it's his property now and nobody can force him to sell for less than he wants to but it appears he might want to sell it for more, good luck to him, who cares? 

It's s like collecting your wages when you know you've not put a really good shift in, you don't go to your boss and offer him the money back!!!!! 

Very true indeed. I stand here humbled and feeling rather silly!

Have a look at Salvage Rebuilds UK on YouTube. He has no problem selling the cars and bikes he repairs. Is open and honest about his total costs are and how much (pre tax) profit he makes. And the cars are all sold almost immediately he puts them up for sale.

Suppose thats what comes from making decent videos and being honest

Oh shit I'm sorry if it came across that way, genuinely wasn't what I was getting at I promise but it's just I used to be of almost that exact same opinion until I got my own business years ago in the motor trade and saw just how much of a torrent of shit you can come under in 5 minutes!!!! 

It's actually a really hard game that seems to be getting even harder and heaven forbid trying to do it as some sort of additional income in this day and age, my guess is you'd either have your "lower deck lawyers" telling you how the £500 Mondeo you bought now has a slight rattle on the clutch so it's been to Ford to have a full clutch fitted and they said that this car should "never have been on the road" and you owe them £2000 to make it go away. 

I've been there myself with an Astra estate almost identical to one a few pages back in blue. Mine was the 1.8 16v sport and I loved it. I bought it with probably the shittest front end respray I've ever seen after a light enough bump. I bought second hand panels the same colour and actually made it a really nice car. Got the VIC check on it and drove it for a year everyday, took it to Gatwick a few times, Birmingham, Manchester, never had any real bother with it. I got the itch for something quicker and bought a Subaru impreza so time to move the Astra on. 

Eventually sold it with FULL disclosure (CAT C highlighted in the first line of the advert) through a car forum to someone from Luton. He was a nice enough lad but he had some issues with collection so I ended up meeting him at the Severn bridge, much to my Mrs annoyance but he seemed a good sort. A month or so later, I start getting threatening phonecalls from his brother that I deliberately sold his mother a "wreck" that would "never pass an mot" despite having 2 in my possession. This went on for a month with him threatening to "get some boys together to come and get the money" which did amuse me but my name then got sullied on the forum and threats of trading standards etc etc. I ended up refunding about 50% of the purchase price and took the car back. Sold it to a guy in work that had it for 10 YEARS!!! He only got rid in the end as he was stopped from driving medically. 

Just shows why forums such as this are great places to sell as truthfully you'd only rip someone off once and also, if you're not 100% about something, just roffle it for £10 a ticket or whatever, who cares what goes wrong with a £10 car? 

Hope no offence was taken!!!

Also, bumper crack of DOOM*. That's been reversed into something and the little screw under there has been snapped/bent.

At least it's had a cambelt in the last decade. Watchlisted, though doubt I'll crack being the LX which I find less interesting than BASE or GLX.

I'll do that, always love a good YouTube vid, been enjoying kiltox's ones on the focus and rover. A young lad I written with keeps telling me that we have to make one when i eventually do up my cossie as he thinks that would generate a lot of interest. 

A nice thing about doing what he's doing is that he has a captive audience, the people watching his vids are interested in cars therefore he's already half way there to selling. A good move really. 

As I've said before these are my experiences and truthfully I certainly agree that being honest is the right way to do it but I bet he's had a few comebacks that he may or may not disclose on there, anyone in the trade has at some point and often its the ones you least expect. That was certainly why back in the day most of the part time traders I knew only dealt in real bread and butter stuff like ford's, vauxhalls etc, things that were cheap and easy to fix. I always went for the astra 1.7d estates and usually sold them by 9am on the first day the free ads came out. Fiestas were also popular, especially in resale red with power steering. 

Of course the game has completely changed now, I think it's all about PCP and monthly payments, all above my head.

Dealer near me has nearly every model of those made. Interesting to see them, as I only remember the standard one, used by loads of despatch riders and flogged to death within 3 years

I've also watch listed that Mondeo as I did actually enjoy my grotty TD. Rubbery gear change and minging interior aside, it was so easy to drive and the turbo lag was hilarious.

A Cossie one would generate loads of interest! I'd be one subscriber for you.

The other thing that Rob of Salvage Rebuilds has highlighted is the price some cars fetch at auction. Some are sold at well over retail price, and with the cost of parts and labour to add to repairing the damage.

Is this the YouTube phenomena at work? Someone see's a few of these videos and thinks "I can do that", as do others, and bidding takes off.

Maybe he has had a few  that have had issues after he has sold them, but easy to see what he has done so you go in eyes wide open.
