Do these employ an old Merc lump from a 190D or summert?

Zero Mercedes content.

I think it's something like one of those old Peugeot Indenor diesels but with an OHC head.

They have a shite indian 2.0 copy/redesigned PSA XUD which in this configaration is slow, uneconomical and unreliable. The gearbox is an indian special which tends to fail. Parts are hard to get and fearsomly expensive (pair of back springs reputedly cost best part of a grand.)

I want one!

How about this for tat-hauling?

A whole 72hp from the 1.3 powerhouse.

My parents had a near-identical one (only difference being it was LHD and only the povvo-spec XLI was available for pre-ordering at launch) from new until about 2006. The engine was quite a bit more powerful than that (I think it was 88hp), but it was still shit as you had to rev it to buggery in order to make any progress (peak torque @5200rpm IIRC).

Think how I feel driving the 72bhp automatic version

Tragic future predicted for rare Granada Chasseur; when "enthusiasts" appear on classic car circles threatening banger racing unless people buy their overpriced rust it can't end well.

"You are only bidding on one wheelnut" phrase guarantees some awkward git with an aversion to upfrontedness and clarity.

Meanwhile, on a 1970's council estate

It's still taxed and tested but doesn't run because the owners grasp of mechanics seems to be on par with his grasp of English.

'Wellding 2 small holes next to the engine and painting everything next to the engine that is the reason the car does not run now , you also need to connect a radator , carborator and when you do that the car will run'
