Be like me, only with a more complete interior.  Don't know if it's really a 1600 or not, the bonnet with the hump is usually fitted to the 2 litre version.

This Lotus Excel is one that was built to develop their active suspension system and will apparently pull 1.2g through a corner.  Impressive, although getting it running reliably is probably for advanced Lotus students only.

 

Lots of Excels were 160bhp but the SE had 185bhp, try explaining to kids that this was a lot of power and they'll give you some kind of pitying look.

The bonnet hinge is out of alignment, or has rusted off more likely.
