Truthfully?

It's Gumtree and you've been honest, this does not bode well on there. If you just list it as being a good runner with tax and MOT you'll probably get a few mails/calls/texts about it. Obv. 89% of them will be from penniless morons, what's-your-best-price-for-cash-ers and weirdos, so just ignore them, but there are genuine buyers out there.

The problem with listing faults is (and I swear this is true) that people will read the advert, see there's a couple of daft things 'wrong' with it and click off. These knob warblers will then go in search of the 'perfect' used car in their budget, and this will likely be a highly polished Fiat Punto with the tyres 'Back-to-Blacked' and gleaming, despite fuck all tread.

This car will sell, or at least attract potential buyers because the vendor hasn't mentioned any faults. Said buyer thinks the car is perfect, forgets about how he didn't want scratches and scuffs on your car (because he can't see past the polish of the car in front of him) and buys it.

Seller then walks off, waits round the corner, turns his phone off then fucks off back to his house three miles away. Buyer drives car home, same night there's 8 litres of Castrol's finest on the drive, reverse gear has imploded through the alternator, they tyres are all flat (and bald) and your missus is giving you hell because it was for your Britney's 19th birthday, you've bought a scrap heap on wheels and guess what? The seller isn't answering his phone. This is no surprise as the sim card is now floating around the Leeds-Liverpool canal, probably in at least two pieces.

Cue then myriad OUTRAGED comments on Facebook stating such things as 'OMG deff trap' 'do nt bye car ov man wiv hat in Hudersfiled' and constant 'likes' and hopeless comments afterwards.

That's why.

Lots of plausible colour there Cavette, what colour was that hat?

Cavette is right and speaks like a true shiter, if I am selling a 'proper' car i.e. not one of my projects that is splashed all over the tat blog, I don't mention on an ad trivial stuff that does not affect the operation or usability of the car, for exactly that reason. Folk take one look at the advert and say 'well if he's coming clean about that, what is he hiding from us?' and move onto some other wobbed-up crate. If they get off their fat arse and bother coming to see it, they'll see the scratch or whatever straightaway so no problems. It sounds like your Daewoo is in perfectly 'normal' condition if the worst problems are a scuffed wheelarch and a bit of wear on a seat.

Words of wisdom or bitter experience from Cav craft there, I can't decide which though.

There are genuine buyers on there as I have sold three cars on gumtree before in the same warts and all way.

No, I disagree.

I always primarily buy a car on the advert. If the owner sounds like a grunting mong, or if I get the impression the owner is spinning an unlikely tale about the car, I don't look any further. But I do expect a few age-related defects, and I want the owner to be honest about them, in the advert or at the latest in the follow-up call. Last thing I want to do is drive several hundred miles to buy a "perfect" car to find out the owner has neglected to inform me of half a dozen obvious faults that might well be deal-breakers for me.

Well it just depends on what each person considers a deal-breaker I guess. I don't buy cars off an advert, I buy them after a phone call, a visit or a reasonably intelligent email conversation. Anyone who turned up to buy my £375 taxed and tested daewoo and then turned their nose up at a scuff on the wheel arch (if thats genuinely the worst they can find) will get given the big FO if they start banging on about me wasting their time etc.

True. But if I don't get the impression that the seller's honest from their advert I won't even bother phoning them in the first place. And if I start hearing about new defects during a subsequent phone call that might make alarm bells ring too, although there might be a good reason they haven't mentioned them before (clutch just gone, etc.).

That being said, I wouldn't be too fussy about a £375 car.

Don't get me wrong, any normal person (i.e an Autoshiter) would look at that car, see if it fits the bill and that they can afford it, then would probably be delighted with description and buy it. The trouble with advertising it on certain mediums is the fact that a fair percentage of it's subscribers (viewers, if you like) are just out and out mingebags who know the price of everything and the value of fuck all.

I'm not for one minute suggesting lying on adverts or to buyers whatsoever, but if you just advertise stuff with next to no description you can get they potential buyer down and show them the vehicle and the faults in person.

I guarantee I can shed about 85% of knobheads from my adverts because I try and word them in such a way that anyone who doesn't (or probably does) know me thinks I'm a right twat who wouldn't give away a free bit of used bog roll.

The trouble with the e-generation buyers is they don't find that personal touch, it's all about trying to screw something down in price before they've seen it. eBay is the same, people bid for vehicles and cannot be arsed going to view when it's nearby. Then when they turn up to buy it they whinge and moan about stuff they should and could have spotted if they viewed first. They also never find out whether their twat detector senses are working until it's too late: these are essential when buying a used car, you can generally get the feeling if the seller is the type of bloke who sellotapes hamsters so they don't explode when he shags them. Or not.

Anyhow apologies for twatting on, just speaking from buying/selling experiences I've had and obv. not everyone is the same.

*Edit: that Lada convertible is MEGA. It looks like a cut and shut from a Cavalier Mk2, a Nova Hutchinson's soft top and a cut down Calibre bodykit.

'DEVELOPED A FAULT WITH THE GEAR BOX AND THE COOLING SYSTEM. THE REAR BUMPER DUE TO A KNOCK HAS BEEN REPAIRED AND CAN BE REFITTED, BUT AT A COST OF £150. FOR APPROXIMATELY 1500 THIS CAR WOULD RUN PERFECTLY'

:lol::lol::lol:

For approximately £1500 you could probably buy one that is exactly 73.9 times better than this one to start off with.

Wow, that Lada is serious crap. Reminds me of the Samara 'Flyte' I had a few years ago. Bodykit, alloys, more rust that the titanic, and to drive about as pleasant as receiving a rectal probing with a scaffold pole.

Poorly put together ad but this doesn't look bad for £1000, although it has been for sale for ages. 5 pot diesel in it and has a smidge of an MOT left.

YOWSA!!!

Not brave enough to wear the thong she's selling though....
