Looks like the stop-gap 1.6 cvh 'S' they cobbled together as the XR3i wasn't ready/available/not sure about badge for insurance purposes.

 

Either way a cvh in a 'mk5' was a hateful thing at best.

It does look somewhat like a povvo spec one that a dealer has stuck all their "sporty" options to. I know they are legendarily balls, but I have always liked the looks of the mk.V. One of those cars that seemed to vanish overnight

They made a 1.6i EFi S (which i think this is) but never a GTS, I suspect it's a dealer special with more snazzy Halfords wheel trims and pin stripes.

The problem I have with with this is the idea of these rallys is to get a cheap shit banger and hope that it makes it, not take a nice reliable 90s saloon and spunk a grand on some shitty vinyl.

To be fair I'd far rather buy a car off the bay where the sellers bothered to tell you whats wrong with it. The only ones with no faults end up with us all ripping the shit out of them on the 'bargains' thread.

This one's quite modern at 1972, however it boasts an 850cc engine which should see this 540kg car get quite perky
