Correct the 1.25 Zetec were Yamaha based hence why they were so revvy, not so sure about the 1.7's though.

<< Anorak mode On>>

The small Zetec enine was designed and developed for Ford by Yamaha as a contract engineering job codenamed 'Sigma'. Cue much hilarity when Ford Publicity material appeared at the launch of the 96MY Fiesta. Mitsubishi Motors not ammused, so quick rename to Zetec.

Ford UK did alot of development work on the new engine installation for fiesta (Coded BE91 by Ford) and mass production set up at Ford Valencia engine plant.

The 1.7 engine used in Puma (SE161) was designed and built by Yamaha. The reason for this was purely Ford contracting out a low volume build.

The 2 stroke engine was a research project between Ford and Orbital Engineering of Australia, the prototype cars were built in UK at Ford Aveley in Essex in 92/93. One of them is in the Heynes Museum. Test programme failed to live up to expectations and that was the end of that.

The Ka (BE146) was originally destined to have a 1.0 3 cyl version of the Sigma engine but cost cutting meant it went into production with the old OHV unit.

Ooh, very nice. The 1993 ones have a pretty face with the long indicators but no silly chromed plastic grille.

Ohh, I didn't realise there was a sort of 'half facelift' one. I'm going to look out for them now, like the sad twat that I am.

Hey! This Escort looks pretty nice. It's even had its photo taken by a little girl with bunches.

CHEEP CAR

Er, ok. Not a brilliant grasp of the English language, but probably still ok.

FFS. I'm out!

I already have!, Shame that it wasn't a few months ago or I'd had bought it for Shitefest, Although I've just place a bid I won't win it and i don't really have any need for it.

Good man. Dog vomit beige is the next best thing I suppose, though I'm not sure Hyacinth would approve. Looks well tidy :D

Regardng the Montego in Belfast. The Gsi is on of the rarer ones these days and as far as i know leather was standard on it/ Looks like a lovely motor but the camera ca lie. Looks like a nice combination colour wise!

Hey Ian, top find with that Escort. Looks easily de-chavable and although early ones are getting rare, I can't see a bonnet being too hard to get hold of.

That Peugeot camper 'creation' looks quite nice inside;could spend many nice wet weekends in that somewhere with a portable tv and some soup heated up on the hob !

I'm liking that Justy - ECVT is that one of those rubber band type auto's? are they reliable in any sort of way or a hideously expensive complicated nightmare that never works properly?

Anyway, I'm loving this Skoda on the blue forum

Funny how once you've attended Shitefest, the sight of one Gamma berlina just isn't extraordinary anymore. Besides, £2750 and the bonnet is rusty!

These bodykitted SAABs are the fittest of the lot I reckon

The owner sounds like the kind of bloke who'll keep you at his house from 06.30 until midnight as he makes you endless brews and talks about the difference in wheel bearing grease, overhead gudgeon pins and camshaft knackertwat valves.

If I had this I'd go back to the 1970's

Then I'd buy one of these

m4689.jpg

And a pair of these

And then the fun would start. Alfie and I would just drive round Croydon, wolf whistling at dolly birds and occasionally getting into arguments with car drivers, perhaps just keeping my hand on the horn and shouting chirpy Cockney abuse* at people. Maybe get into removals, whitewash 'Mr Shifter' in really shit lettering down the sides and carrying wardrobes full of lingerie round, which occasionally open and the contents fly out into Alfie's face just as he's chatting some right sort up.

We'd probably end up in the 'ville, getting fitted up by some two bob, no good muggy rozzer. It'd be ok though, we'd have mates 'on the in' and instead of being banged up 23 hours a day with a bucket of shit, we'd be playing cards, getting drunk and laughing at the screws. On release we'd go to the Dog & Bastard for a few pints and get shot dead by Dave The Twat because we'd accidentally looked at his mum in the wrong tone of shoes.
