Look at this wee gem hiding away in the parts section.  Potential bargain I reckon.

Oh dear. Hasn't that poor 404 been trying to find a home for about forever? Had hoped that it's recent trip to ACA might result in someone wanting to keep it. Apparently not.

Can you imagine what a WINNER you'd feel chugging round from A to B in that truck though. It would be amazing, well I think it would.

The 127 is just round the corner from me. Never seen it before though.

Never mind the 127, does the filly pictured in the ad float the area about causing multiple pile ups.

I'm sure that motorised push bike is converted using so shite kit you can get off ebay for 100 quid or so.

Edit. Actually 125 quid.

WCPGW right?

I bet the rozzers would have a field day if they saw you pootling around on it.

i wish you hadn't done that. I've got money to burn at the moment, and we both know I have just hit buy it now with the intention of motorising something that really shouldn't be motorised

In terms of cc per £ you'd struggle to beat this

will need the pas looking at, as it has lost its fluid on the way for its mot

It's exactly this kind of stuff that prevents me from buying another BMW.

My past ownership experience is, that you constantly spend the equivalent of some very decent Autoshite on yet another major repair, until something so seriously major breaks, that you finally weigh it in, despite having thrown thousands at it already.

Good is different, if you don't wear BMW-tinted glasses.

not seen her either - although I think her airbags would protect me in the event of a crash!

I look forward to seeing your injuries. What do you recon it's classed as? I guess you'd get into bother using it on the street?

True enough, in the constant battle between MB and BMW, through the 90's BMW seem to have got their heads round the tin worm better and then MB seriously lost the plot around 96 for about 10 years, but MB's (so long as certain models and years are avoided) seem to  be more rugged in the basic engineering if rust doesn't kill it first.

My 124 coupe, whilst its had the normal problem of disintegrating wiring loom which surfaces @ about 10/12 years, and it was 10k early for OMGCHG, i was only thinking the other day that servicing apart (which has been good) the drive train is still untouched, and the engine and box perform as faultlessly as the day it left the factory.

Cos of its model the front bottom ball joint is part of the wishbone, but thats the only part of the moving parts of the suspension that wears, its had new bushes in the anti roll bar and cos i'm a fussy twat i had new shocks all round, and its broke 2 springs over time, but i can hardly blame MB for the state of our third world roads.

The BMW in the link, like MB's V12s, is a step too far IMO, they were to all intents and purposes £100k cars, plutocrats toys, so they require £100k car TLC throughout the life of the vehicle, those who owned them for the first 6 years were most unlikely to ever think to shove a hose pipe underneath now and again and wash the salt out.

Owners, especially those who bought their own, of lesser models were more likely to care for them at least in some instances, i think, and they were more likely to end up in good MB indy workshops @ 3 years old for servicing, where they would see far better care than they ever would at the main dealer.

You've just described any old car. How many gearboxes has your P6 eaten?  At least with BMW you can go to the dealer and they chances are they'll be able to find the part for you.

Old cars are expensive. I just spent £27 on a tiny plastic speedo drive for a Cortina, 7 quid for a 80p core plug and so on.

Having said all that the v12 is a horror if it goes wrong.

But it would be worth all the grief just to have a 5 litre V12 in your life for a few months/days

I can't see a reason why having a V12 BMW, Merc or Jag is a bad idea. Even if it only lasts 27 minutes, it'll be the most memorable 27 minutes in my car history.

Trouble with V12s is that they're unecessarily complicated, don't really go any better than a V8 of similar capacity, and you don't get the slightly uneven wondrous soundtrack that accompanies the V8 to make its thirst worth having, V12's don't sound gruff enough.

Chap who i bought the Outback from picked me up from the station in his 6 month old E63 he refers to as a shed, if Carlsberg made soundtracks...

I had a '72 5.7 Mustang Boss in my dim and distant past, previous owner, called Moses (i kid you not, think Huggy Bear) had fitted bolt on straight through side pipes to each sill, it thundered, and its party piece was its 3 speed auto box, which in kickdown would change out of first at 65mph and spin the tyres up going into second on a bone dry road, its only downside was all round unservoed drum brakes, which made stopping from top gear speeds interesting, wish to God i'd kept the bugger now, better investment than houses.

In MB and BMW models the V8's are excellent, possibly apart from some troublesome early BMW V8s which should all have disappeared by now anyway.

I've seen V12 MB's stripped out on my indies bench, rocker areas absolutely stuffed with baked in black death.

I'm pretty sure Merc or BMW now drive the exhaust note through the stereo on the performance stuff, which is a bit lame. I much prefer Jaguars approach of sticking a butterfly valve in the system, so it pretty much goes to a straight through exhaust when you give it some beans.

^^ Another problem is its a non Figaro colour, the real money from the enthusiasts tends to be for the original examples in the only four shades they came in being Green, Brown, Blue or Grey. But it could still be an earner but you'd struggle to turn it into a £5k example like most are.
