Looks a decent shout for the money. The 8 valve was the better engine in terms of the fact that it was utterly unbreakable, and would do galactic miles with total neglect.

 

The ecowreck isn't as tolerant, but its not a terrible engine

The "right" Cavalier really has to be a 1.7TD, preferably in itchy cloth seat Envoy fleet-spec, although that's probably just me being nostalgic for the one my Dad had as a company car back in 1993.  Sadly, L752 CFX recently disappeared from the DVLA computer system.
