'the starting bid is lower than what he has been offered for the interior and grill'

 '£300'

Take that offer (if it's actually actual) and weigh the rest of it in.

"the starting bid is lower than what he has been offered for the interior and grill" 😋

The description and the square number plate recesses suggest it was imported here from Japan.

The auto box and the Honda engine also seem to back that up.

Didnt all the automatic ones get the Honda engine, i thought that was the case?

216 and 416 were Honda engined from the start, British built with fog built in, so not difficult to add if missing on this Jap import, I’d guess? I had a 418SLDT and it was great.

Oddly shaped number plate trim and a bolt on foglight are good indications a car has been imported.

(granted a UK mx5's foglight looks pretty shonky anyway)

Never thought much of them back then but these early 90s Renaults have aged extremely well. They never improved them with facelifts.

That's lovely. Full Papa spec.

Sadly, the autoboxes on these are basically made from Brie.

They are called a Fiat Talento. They were pretty popular in Italy, especially in old towns, as they had a great turning circle for getting round the narrow streets.

Do they normally have Honda DOHC lumps? That seems a bit snazzy?

Yes all the 1.6 Autos were Honda.

I had one in the 400 Saloon. Hoot to drive

The absolute state of that fucking thing. Hideous doesn't even come into it. At least they've helpfully included a photograph of the sand the bastarding thing should be buried in...

Yes that's a good point. I'd expect to see an obviously hastily added foglight if it were an import.

Gentlemen may I suggest you study the listing. One has many clues that this is an import.

I never had any doubt it was an import and didn’t suggest it wasn’t. I only stated that it was made in Britain, which it was and that the Honda engine was not a clue, as the 1.6s were all Honda, at that time.

Mrs Cheeseburger is an import. She came from the other side of the Tamar.

Lol I only posted it because I thought the DOHC engine was unusual!

I hope it achieved better than 5.5 mpg most of the time, otherwise it has cost half a million pounds doing those miles.

A £1,500 classic Mini that isn't dragged out of a canal, damp field, and dissolved into several crusty bits. A project, obviously, but I *think* that might be relatively cheap in the current market?
