I worked for the company that developed the electronics for this autobox with AP (who are better known for racing car brakes).  We designed quite a complicated control system which lived in a watertight box under the bonnet.

The system worked well except for one street in Paris where the cars would basically double declutch when crossing a junction.  It was traced to some massive power cables running under the roadway which interfered with the car’s electromagnetic shielding 🤪

I worked for Lucas Control Systems Products in Kiethley who made the solenoid for the clutch.  I was responsible for introducing single piece flow in a nagare cell.

The solenoid sat in Oil.

Customer was AP. (Lockheed?)

At one point we did a design for assembly exercise and potentially we found we could reduce the parts count by 50% and reduce The cost by 60%. Don't know how far that got because all the automotive stuff went to Lucas Electronics at Holford Drive in Perry Barr, and I went to Lucas Car Electrical in Burnley.

I've five cars, plus a motorhome, I can only drive one at a time. Having two isn't an excuse on here.

That's true and not helping 😉😂

Lucas didn't do clutches. Lucas Control Systems Products was part of the industrial division, not automotive and were experts in proportional solenoids, and positional rotary actuators.

The Keighley site had the automotive stuff ripped from them by a click of a computer mouse, and the management bought out the rest and branded it back to NSF controls. (National Switch Factory?)

Early registration madness!

MK2 ZS on an '03 reg.

These came along for the 54 reg I thought, and the earliest I've seen is an 04. But not an 03! Or am I missing something?

Unless of course someone has gone to the effort of face-lifting it themselves
